When: 8:30 PM ET, Monday, October 23, 2017
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

    Preview: Redskins at Eagles

    Gracenote
    Oct 20, 2017

When the Philadelphia Eagles step onto the field for Monday's prime-time clash against the visiting Washington Redskins, they will own the best record in the NFL and have a chance to take total control of the NFC East. The Eagles have ripped off four consecutive victories to open a two-game lead on the Redskins as they vie for a sweep of the season series.

Philadelphia won its first three games last season under rookie quarterback Carson Wentz before going into a tailspin, but the team seems better equipped to continue its success this time around. "Having a year together with this team, under Coach, myself, everything, we're just built differently," Wentz told reporters. "We have a different character makeup in that locker room, and we just have a bunch of guys that believe that, no matter the situation, we can find a way to win a ballgame." Washington, which won five straight in the series before dropping a 30-17 decision to the Eagles in the season opener, held on for a 26-24 victory over winless San Francisco last weekend after building an early 17-point lead. The Redskins' only other loss was a 29-20 setback at then-unbeaten Kansas City, which also handed Philadelphia its only defeat.

    TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: Eagles -4.5. O/U: 49

ABOUT THE REDSKINS (3-2): Quarterback Kirk Cousins had his worst performance in the season opener, but he is coming off a strong three-game stretch and leads the NFC with a 106.4 passer rating. Running back Rob Kelley is dealing with an ankle injury, which could mean the bulk of playing time will go to rookie Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson, who already has recorded two 100-yard receiving performances and made four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. With wideouts Terrelle Pryor and Jamison Crowder continuing to struggle, the tight-end tandem of Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis has combined for 29 catches. Linebacker Preston Smith has registered 4.5 of the team's 15 sacks, including one in the season opener.

ABOUT THE EAGLES (5-1): Wentz entered the weekend fifth in passing yards (1,584) with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions, and during the four-game winning streak has thrown nine scoring passes against only one pick. Moving to the slot has provided a boost for third-year wideout Nelson Agholor, who has recorded four catches and a TD reception in each of the last two games. However, Wentz's top target is tight end Zach Ertz, who hauled in a pair of touchdown passes last week and has been a nemesis for the Redskins - evidenced by an eight-catch, 93-yard performance in Week 1. Philadelphia ranks No. 1 in the league against the run, allowing an average of 65.7 yards, but is surrendering a generous 273.5 passing yards.

    OVERTIME

    1. Philadelphia has scored at least 20 points in 10 straight games, the league's longest active streak.

    2. Reed has made 10 catches for 139 yards and two TDs in his last two games at Philadelphia.

    3. Ertz has 54 receptions in nine contests against Washington, including 23 in the last two at home.

    PREDICTION: Eagles 27, Redskins 23

Redskins at Eagles 10/23/17 - NFL Picks & Predictions

                by Eddie

                Latest Odds : PHI -4.5 Total 48

Monday Night Football will feature an NFC showdown between the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles from Lincoln Financial Field. The Redskins lost their season opener at home versus the Eagles, but have rallied to win three of their last four games. On Sunday, Washington raced out to a 17-point lead and held on for a 26-24 home victory versus San Francisco. Kirk Cousins threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns for the Redskins on the afternoon.

Through six games, Washington ranks 6th in total offense and is scoring 23.4 points on average. Philadelphia comes into this game with a defense that ranks 19th in yards allowed and surrenders 20.3 points per contest.

The Philadelphia Eagles have won five of their first six games overall and are emerging as one of the best teams in the National Football League. Second year QB Carson Wentz has thrown for 1,584 yards and 13 touchdowns and has helped the Eagles open up a two-game division lead in the NFC East. On Thursday, Wentz threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns to lead Philadelphia to a 28-23 road triumph over Carolina.

Philadelphia comes into this contest ranked third in total offense and scoring 27.5 points on average. Washington is very improved on defense, ranking 5th in yards allowed and giving up 22.6 points per game.

                Recent Betting Trends:
Washington is 10-3 ATS in its last 13 games on the road.
Washington is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing on the road against Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is 7-2 ATS in its last 9 games.
The total has gone OVER in 6 of Washington's last 7 games on the road.
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia's last 5 games when playing at home against Washington.

                Free Betting Pick: OVER 48

Washington CB Josh Norman (ribs, lung) was unable to suit up last week, but could return to action for this game. Four Washington turnovers were the difference in their season opening 30-17 loss versus Philadelphia. Look for Cousins and company to take better care of the ball on Monday night and help push this game over the total. Final Score Prediction, Philadelphia Eagles win but fall short ATS 32-28.

Kings at Maple Leafs 10/23/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

                  by Jim

                  Latest Odds : TOR -155 Total 6

The Kings played in a marathon game on Saturday against the Blue Jackets. The track meet was not really decided until about five minutes left in the game when a centering pass ended up getting knocked into the back of the net to guarantee the Kings the win.

Dustin Brown is a player who has been able to lead the Kings on the offense. Browns has been able to get a +11 on the season, but has managed to get 6 assist and 5 goals on the year.

The Maple Leafs offense failed them in the game against the Senators. However, it was not because the Maple Leafs did not try in the game. Just the Senators defense and offense was quite a bit better than what the Maple Leafs were able to put out on the ice.

The Maple Leafs on the season have been led by Auston Matthews. Matthews on the season has been able to carry the Maple Leafs by getting a total of 12 points on the season with 7 of those coming off of goals.

                  Recent Betting Trends:
Kings are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference.
Maple Leafs are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. Pacific.
Over is 7-3-3 in Kings last 13 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game.
Over is 5-2 in Maple Leafs last 7 vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

Free Betting Pick: Toronto Maple Leafs -155

The Maple Leafs are on home ice, coming off of a loss and wanting to prove the loss was just a fluke. The Kings offense is not able to keep pace in most of the high scoring affairs. Look for the Maple Leafs to be able to win this game 4-2.

Sharks at Rangers 10/23/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

                    by Mike

                    Latest Odds : NYR -120 Total 5.5

The San Jose Sharks (3 - 4 - 0, 6pts) are on the road to start off the week against the NY Rangers (2 - 5 - 2, 6pts). New York will be heading home to host this game at the Madison Square Garden in New York, NY. Both San Jose and New York have struggled big time to start off this season and a turnaround isn't exactly likely. Still, New York is coming off of a nice win over Nashville while San Jose is coming off of a bad loss to the Islanders so momentum might be shifting.

The New York Rangers will be taking the ice with an offense that has largely been forgettable to this point in the season. New York is 24th in the NHL in goals per game despite their efficiency with the power play. JT Miller (2 goals, 6 assists) has been a dynamic playmaker on the ice this year and he'll be expected to continue in that capacity. New York is 21st in goals allowed, giving up 3 per game to opponents.

The San Jose Sharks will be taking the ice as they try to square up after a loss to the Islanders. San Jose is one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL this year despite a hot start by center Logan Couture (6 goals, 2 assists). Couture and the Sharks are a Top 10 team on the power play and that could be the difference in this game.

                    Recent Betting Trends:
Sharks are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record.
Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
Under is 13-4-5 in Sharks last 22 games playing on 1 days rest.
Under is 4-0 in Rangers last 4 Monday games.

Free Betting Pick: San Jose Sharks +110

The Sharks offense lackluster this season and the Rangers offense has had some struggles as well. However, the defense of the Sharks is playing well and the Sharks have been able to do better on the powerplay this year. We like San Jose to defeat New York, 3 - 2.

                      76ers at Pistons 10/23/17 - NBA Picks & Predictions

                      by Eddie

                      Latest Odds : DET -4.5 Total 214

The Monday NBA schedule will tip-off with a matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons from brand new Little Caesars Arena. The 76ers have increased expectations this season, but have dropped their first three games. On Saturday night, Philadelphia gave up 40 points during the third quarter of a 128-94 road loss at Toronto. The 76ers turned the ball over 20 times and shot just 39 percent from the field.

Former number one overall draft pick Ben Simmons scored a team high 18 points to go along with ten rebounds and eight assists. Jahlil Okafor added ten points and nine rebounds off the Philadelphia bench.

The Detroit Pistons have won two of their first three games this season, which puts them in a first place tie with Cleveland and Milwaukee atop the Central Division. On Saturday, Detroit erased a 21-point deficit to earn a 111-107 road victory over the New York Knicks. The Pistons connected on 9-for-30 from long range and shot 48 percent overall.

Tobias Harris scored 22 of his team high 31 points in the second half to spark the Detroit comeback. Andre Drummond added 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Pistons on the evening.

                      Recent Betting Trends:
76ers are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 road games.
Pistons are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Over is 5-0 in 76ers last 5 road games.
Under is 13-3 in Pistons last 16 home games.
76ers are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Detroit.

Free Betting Pick: Detroit Pistons -4.5

Philadelphia F/C Joel Embiid sat out Saturday’s game and has expressed frustration of having to sit out the second of back-to-back games. The 76ers rank 25th in points allowed through their first three games and need to get their defensive issues worked out before they can be backed. Final Score Prediction, Detroit Pistons win and cover ATS 114-104.

Southeast Division rivals will collide on Monday night, when the Atlanta Hawks travel to the American Airlines Arena to face the Miami Heat. This will be the second of a back-to-back on the road for the Hawks, who lost in Brooklyn yesterday afternoon by a 116-104 final score. Atlanta turned the ball over 16 times and shot a woeful 34 percent from the field. The Hawks were outscored 46-36 in the points in the paint category.

The Miami Heat narrowly missed the playoffs last season and look to have the makings of a playoff squad this year. The Heat bounced back from a season opening loss in Orlando with a 112-108 victory over Atlanta on Saturday night. Miami connected on 14-for-34 from long distance and shot 52 percent overall. The Heat used a 37-19 second quarter to take a 13-point lead into halftime.

Undefeated teams will clash on Monday night, when the Memphis Grizzlies travel to the Toyota Center to square off against the Houston Rockets. Memphis defeated New Orleans in their season opener and followed it up with a 111-101 victory over the visiting Golden State Warriors. The Grizzlies forced 17 turnovers and limited the defending NBA Champions to just 39 percent shooting.

Marc Gasol converted 16 of his 17 free throw attempts, finishing with a team high 34 points and 14 rebounds. Tyreke Evans added 12 points and seven boards off the bench for the Grizzlies.

The Houston Rockets have won three straight games and look to have a newfound intensity on the defensive end of the floor. The Rockets have limited their opponents to an average of 104 points, which ranks 15th in the league. On Saturday, Houston played their most complete defensive game during a 107-91 in their home opener versus Dallas. All-Star G James Harden tallied a game high 29 points on a 10-for-19 shooting performance. Clint Capela chipped in 13 points and ten rebounds for the Rockets on the evening.

Houston G Chris Paul is dealing with a knee injury that could force him to miss the next few weeks. The Paul injury is forcing the Rockets to play Harden more minutes that they had planned on. Look for the Grizzlies to keep this game close and cover on Monday. The Phoenix Suns have gotten off to a horrendous 0-3 start, losing by an average of 30 points per game. Things may not get much better when they host the 1-2 Sacramento Kings.

The Suns did nearly beat the Lakers though, losing by just two points in a home game. The Suns lost their other two games by about 40 points each. Phoenix is giving up 128 points per game, which is second worst in the league, and are averaging 98, which is 23rd.

Devin Booker is averaging 16.7 points and Eric Bledsoe is averaging 15.7 for the Suns. Tyson Chandler is averaging seven points and nine rebounds, and he is the only player on the team shooting 50 percent. The team is shooting 39.7 percent overall.

The Kings lost their last game by 17, and the other two games were decided by five points each. Point guard DeAaron Fox has been a solid surprise for the Kings, though he was a lottery pick last year. Fox and George Hill are both averaging 13.7 points per game for Sacramento. Hill is shooting 57 percent from the field. Both are also listed as point guards.

Sacramento has struggled on offense overall, next to last in the league at 90.7 points per game. The Kings are, however, playing good defense, eighth in the league in giving up 96.3 points per game. The Kings are shooting 43 percent from the field.

The Kings are averaging six steals per game and 14 turnovers. The Suns are averaging eight steals and 18 turnovers.

Three straight blowout losses cost Phoenix Suns their Coach as Earl Watson was give his pink slip. Nothing has changed since firing Watson and think the young Suns just don't have the talent or experience to beat visiting Kings. Final Score Prediction, Sacramento Kings win and cover ATS 104-94.

The Washington Wizards (2 - 0, 0 - 0 Away) are on the road to start the week against the Denver Nuggets (1 - 1, 1 - 0 Home). Denver comes into this game on the heels of a blowout win over Sacramento. Washington is coming off of a close win over Detroit to keep their record clean so far this year. Washington and Denver are two of the bigger up and coming teams in the NBA so this should be a competitive and high scoring match up. Denver will be hosting this game at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO.

Denver is supposed to be a high scoring, one sided kind of team. However, Denver showed defensive prowess early on this season by tempering both Sacramento and Utah. Denver is giving up just 93 PPG so far this season. Denver's offense runs through big man Nikola Jokic and he'll have the run of the court in this game. Denver will push their offense through the paint to try and limit Washington's speed.

Washington is going to be coming into this game with a ton of confidence. Superstar John Wall (27 PPG, 9 APG) continues to grow into one of the best players in the entire NBA. Washington is averaging 118 PPG on offense this year while shooting 48% from the floor as a team. Washington's biggest issue has been their defense and that might turn around in this match up.

                              Recent Betting Trends:
Wizards are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Western Conference.
Nuggets are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
Over is 35-15-1 in Wizards last 51 road games.
Over is 5-2-1 in Nuggets last 8 vs. NBA Southeast.

Free Betting Pick: Washington Wizards +3.5

The Western Conference is where most of the best teams will be this season but do think this under rated Washington team will be one of three exceptions from the Eastern Conference. Wizards show why with big road upset on Monday - but grab the points just in case. Final Score Prediction, Washington Wizards win and cover ATS 109-104.
