He was awesome in college... he was a total college wrestling heel, everyone hated him. He was probably the best wrestler in college at the time, but was always taunting the Iowa fans and stuff. He was always pushing guys after the whistle and taunting teh fans... He won it all as a sop and jr, and as a senior until the final match. Mark Perry, the Iowa wrestler, finally beat him in the finals. Hendricks had already beaten him like 5 or 6 times that year. When Perry won, the place just blew up... it is seriously one of the loudest wrestling events I had ever seen... people hated Hendricks, and he ate it up Toney style.
seriously, read here http://intermatwrestle.com/articles/221 ... -Hendricks
^^^ Thanks for that explanation. You have to remember that most of us here haven't really followed the college wrestling scene. I have aboslutely no idea about any wrestlers who haven't transitioned into MMA. I literally couldn't name a single one.
Yeah. I don't think I've ever watched a single college wrestling match. I still don't know what a Cowboys singlet means. It does look like Hendricks though now that I'm looking for it.
^^ yeah, I know... but I just assumed you guys recognized his face. You guys know he was an OK State guy.
That's what's funny about him in MMA to me, and why I am such a fan. He was funny as hell and got under everyone's skin. And it REALLY pissed everyone off because no one could beat him. In collge wrestling, sometimes the mats are like 10 feet from the fans. So in down times, you can literally hear everything that is being said to the wrestlers. In that pic he is stuffing Churella and simultaneously sticking it to the Michigan fans.
Its orange because he wrestled for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Of course, Syracuse has similar singlets.Quote:

Dake (a freshman at Cornell) won it all, and I guarnatee you this could could whup some ass in MMA. He is just a natural athlete and a freak of balance and kinetic awareness.
Nice. It doesn't seem like that element of his personality really carried over to his MMA career.
^^ yeah, that's why its funny... because he sort of flies under the radar now. But alot of what he did was "dirty"-- slamming guys on teh hardwood, giving a shove like he wanted to fight... the MMA equivalent would be a strike after the bell or an illegal knee or somethiing... not really shit you can get away with
So how did he get away with it? I would've thought that collegiate officials would be pretty serious about any infractions like that.
Nah, that stuff happens all the time. Shoving on the edge of the mat is really common. After you go out of bounds, the ref blows the whistle, and one guy just pushes the other guy or shoves his head down... happens all the time, even in high school.
In wrestling, it is really taught to try to mentally break the other guy. One of the most common things is to sprint back to the center of the mat after you go out of bounds. You want to be there waiting for him. The thought is the the other guys is going to break by the fact that you are not tired and are just waiting for him like "what took you?" So a lot of guys will push the other guy down so they can get back first.
Well I was thinking of your comparison to a shot after the bell. Obviously that kind of shit is serious enough to get your walking papers from an organization, as we saw with Daley.
^^ no nothing that could hurt anyone and not after all action had stopped. Just a little shoving and stuff. The occasional takedown on the hardwood.
Even Brent Metcalf (probably the best college wrestler the last 2 years) tried to Hughes a guy after the bell when he was upset in the finals last year. The other guy was celebrating and Metcalf couldn't accept defeat and tried to Hughes the guy after the buzzer.
He tried to what him?
I assume he meant pick him up and slam him.
Front choke?Quote:
