              1* MLB - Yankees/Rays FREE Pick on Rays -119

Saturday's Free MLB Pick is on the Tampa Bay Rays as a -119 home favorite against the New York Yankees. Rays have won 7 of their last 9, while the Yankees are just 2-11 in their last 13 games. New York will have Carlos Rodon on the mound. He's made just two road starts. Both have been a struggle. Rodon has allowed 10 runs with 7 BBs in 9 1/3 innings away from home. He's got a 7.10 ERA over his last 3 outings and a 5.01 ERA and 1.799 WHIP in 5 career starts vs Tampa Bay. Bet the Rays -119!

                Dave's Sunday Free Play:

                1* on Texas Rangers -118

The Key: The Texas Rangers ended their 8-game losing streak with a victory over the Minnesota Twins yesterday. I think they get another to close out this series Sunday with their edge on the rubber. Lefty Jordan Montgomery sports a 3.12 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 25 starts this year, a 2.93 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 12 road starts, and a 1.35 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in his last 3 starts for the Rangers. He'll be facing a Minnesota lineup that is terrible against left-handed starters, hitting .223 and scoring 3.4 runs per game against them in 2023. Bailey Ober is 6-6 with a 3.41 ERA in 21 starts for the Twins, and 0-1 with a 4.80 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in his last 3 outings. Take Texas.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Padres/Brewers UNDER 9

The San Diego Padres have been held to 4 runs or fewer in eight of their last nine games overall and have been one of the best UNDER teams in baseball. San Diego starter Michael Wacha should shut down the Brewers today. Wacha is 10-2 with a 2.62 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 17 starts this season, including 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in his last three. Adrian Houser has had great success against the Padres throughout his career with a 2.10 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in five previous starts against them. The UNDER is 9-2 in Wacha's last 11 starts when working on 5 or 6 days' rest. Give me the UNDER.

                      Free Play: Padres-115

The Brewers have been hot lately, the Padres not so much. Way back in April the Brewers hit probable starter for the Padres Wacha very hard. Since the Wacha has been lights out. He was off for most of July and half of August but is again on fire. Since his return on August 15th, he is 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA. Probable starter for the Brewers, Houser, has been up and down the last while with an ERA of 4.70 and a WHIP of 1.17 in his last 3.

Both bullpens have solid help available with a slight edge to the Brewers. Both teams have been mediocre at the plate over the last 15 days so it should come down to the pitchers. With Wacha doing his thing and the rest being equal the Padres will come out on top.

Even if they don't have its star guard, Allisha Gray, I like Atlanta to beat Indiana. Gray has missed the last two games because of an ankle injury. She's the Dream's second-leading scorer at 17.5 points per game.

Obviously it's a nice bonus if Gary plays - she's listed as questionable - but Atlanta should beat the Fever without her.

Atlanta is a middle-of-the-road team, while Indiana ranks with Seattle and Phoenix as among the three-worst teams in the WNBA. The Fever are riding a season-high two game win streak. Those victories, however, were against Seattle and Phoenix. The 10-24 Fever haven't won three in a row all season.

Atlanta should have halted Los Angeles' six-game win streak this past Friday. The Dream let a 16-point lead slip away in an 83-78 loss. Atlanta coach Tanisha Wright ripped her team following that defeat citing lack of toughness both mentally and physically.

Players usually respond well when a coach questions their toughness.

The Dream beat the Fever, 100-94, when the teams last met in Indianapolis back on June 18. It was the fourth straight point spread cover for the Dream in Indianapolis. The Dream also won and covered in their last game against the Fever, defeating them, 82-73, as 8-point home favorites on August 6.

                          Probable Pitchers: KC - A. Marsh-R vs SEA - L. Castillo-R

On Sunday we have a nice AL betting matchup between the Kansas City Royals (41-90, 18-50 on the road, and 3-7 L10) and the Seattle Mariners (73-56, 36-28 at home, and 8-2 L10). On the bumps we get Alec Marsh (0-6, 5.56 ERA, 50 SO) taking on Luis Castillo. (10-7, 3.15 ERA, 175 SO)

The Mariners are the hottest team in baseball right now and come in looking to finish off a 3 game sweep of the Royals.

Seattle put up a 15 spot Saturday night en route to a 15-2 win. They’re getting contributions up and down this lineup, as it seems to be a different guy every game stepping up.

Now, they send out ace Luis Castillo who counters an 0-6 rookie for KC.

This is a clear cut mismatch as Castillo has an ERA just over 3, while the Royals Marsh owns a 5.56 ERA.

Some trends to note, Kansas City are 1-6 SU in their last 7 games, are 0-5 SU in their last 5 games against Seattle, and are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games on the road. Seattle are 10-1 SU in their last 11 games, and 6-2 SU in their last 8 games at home. Lastly, the Mariners have hit the ML in 35 of their last 49 games (+17.65 Units / 27% ROI)

Back the Mariners on the RL.

                          Good Luck, Razor Ray.

                            PLAY ON REDS/DBACKS OVER 9

I'll take my chances with the OVER 9 in Sunday's series finale between the Reds and Diamondbacks. Both of these offenses come in swinging a hot bat. Reds have put up 7 or more runs in 4 of their last 5 games. Arizona has scored 6 or more in 5 of their last 7. I expect more of the same. I know Cincinnati's Graham Ashcraft has pitched better of late, but I think some of that is who he's faced. I would be surprised if he was able to cool off this red-hot Diamondbacks team. On the flip side, we got Slade Cecconi on the mound for Arizona. He's made two starts and has given up 4 ER on 8 hits in 8 2/3 innings. He's only struck out 6 and has 4 BBs. Again, I don't think he's keeping this Cincinnati offense in check. Give me the OVER 9!
