Switzerland finds itself in a group with Brazil again. Serbia is tough, too. The makes taking care of business against Cameroon of critical importance. Back on the big stage, after missing the last World Cup, Cameroon has been a fan favorite in the past. I liked them, too. Familiar names like Samuel Eto’o have retired though. While the current team certainly has some high quality players, this is a very difficult opening round match. The Swiss are in their fifth straight WC. Talented, disciplined and experienced, they know what's at stake here. I've had the good fortune of being able to watch my son play youth soccer, in a number of European countries including a fairly big tournament in Italy. While I knew places like Italy and Spain would be strong, I was always so impressed by the Swiss. As a warmup to the Italian tournament, my son's team, a select group of strong kids from throughout North America, went into Switzerland and played a couple of exhibition games. The discipline that those kids showed, before, during and after the game - they trained hard for 2+ hours straight immediately after playing us - stayed with me. It's that type of discipline, instilled into these Swiss players from a young age, which will be too much for Cameroon to overcome. The Swiss made it to the knockout stage last WC and more recently, Shaqiri and co. knocked out France from the 2020 Euro Cup. They won't be denied.
