1^st race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi TURF] – (3) Ouster (A) got blocked, had to steady after the start and alter paths ending up in eighth, and then rallied for second beaten by only a half-length. (9) Joint Resolution (B) was entered to race on the turf in his debut, got jostled around, and finished fourth at 5-1. (8) Conquist gets blinkers on after running third last time having had the lead in the stretch. (4) Valentino’s Here was second in his second career start and then had a troubled trip with a bad break at the start.
2^nd race [Md Sp Wt, 1 1/8 mi] – (3) Classic Catch (C) was bet down from 8-1 to 5-1 in his debut for Todd Pletcher and finished third behind an impressive stablemate. (6) Jungfrau will make his second start for Bill Mott after running fourth during the final weekend at Saratoga. (2) American Hustle ran well in his last two starts against strong fields for Bobby Flay and Christophe Clement. (7) Crupi ran third in his first three starts last time behind the expensive and impressive winner Signator.

Talented sprinter flopped as the even money favorite in his comeback in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship-G1 last month in his first outing since the spring but we’re willing to give the son of American Pharoah another chance in his first start on Lasix. A graded stakes winner over the local main track and drawn comfortably outside, the Richard Mandella-trained colt continues to impress in the morning and given the projected pace scenario simply should be much too quick for today’s field. At 5/2 on the morning line, he’s a win play and rolling exotic single.

Top Pick: 8-Icy Flavor (3-1)

In his first start since finishing unplaced in his debut in Florida, this Doug O’Neill-trained colt dropped into the maiden $50,000 ranks and was a most convincing winner last month at Santa Anita with a highly rated performance in a race that already has proven to be productive. Protected in this starter allowance turf sprint, the son of Frosted appears well spotted for a repeat score from his outside draw that will allow an ideal stalk-and-pounce trip. The lightly raced sophomore colt represents a reasonable gamble right back at or near his morning line of 3-1.

Northfield Park has a 13-race card, and the feature comes in Race 7, an Open Pace with an $18,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 10. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 10

5-Big Fritz (1/1)-Won for fun versus this kind last week, and unless there is a complete form reversal this should be the winner. The 3-year-old has had issues as this is only his 5th lifetime start, but when he does race, he is 3 for 4. The lone loss was the 1st start off the bench on 11-6 when the previous race was back on 4-10.

Race 11

1-Captainofrocknroll (6-1)-Should offer a solid price and is in a spot to get a suck-around trip. Can make some noise at this level with a sharp drive.
2-Te Amo Blue Chip (3-1)-Drew off at 1/2 and now steps-up but has the speed to take another picture. Does well racing near the top of the stack and that should be the case here.
4-Rockn Motion (2-1)-Drops to the level of its last win and there isn't anyone in this field to fear. Has won 16 of 72 at Nfld and Wrenn should provide an aggressive steer.

Race 12

4-Dancin With Rose (7/2)-Lands in a good spot to pick-up another 1/2 mile win and this is only the 2nd start at Nfld. Draws well and should be a player at this level.
7-Don'tmakeafoolofme (9/2)-Kreiser trainee drops to a spot to shine. Davis Jr takes a seat and that is a positive driver change. Has been fading down the lane so missing a start might help and the post draw should improve the price.

Race 13

1-On The Cards N (8/5)-Steps-up after winning nicely from the rail as an odds-on choice. This won't be as easy but fits with this crew.
3-Full Moon Beach (9/2)-Willing to toss last from the 7-hole. The fractions were soft and couldn't catch the leaders despite a 55.1 back half. This was Merriman's choice, could get the top and make every call a winning one. Has won 7 of 22 starts at Nfld.

Del Mar - Race #8

#2 Havnameltdown	He has done little wrong through three starts and should be right up on the pace again after chasing in that Grade I try last time out. He's supposed to hammer these.
#6 Practical Move	Tactical speed has faced some decent ones along the way already, and he looks like a logical contender for the exacta behind the likely chalk.
#5 Mixto	He's still eligible for a maiden spot, but he does have a little finishing ability that might allow him to grab a piece of this if some of the early players start to falter late.
Race Summary	Havnameltdown looks likely to anchor the late multi-race wagers, as every race on his page so far looks competitive, and I think he's just too good for these right now at a short price.

Del Mar - Race #3

#2 Loyal to a Fault	Wouldn't blame anyone standing against this one at what might be a modest price, but she's got a tactical edge on most of these and has been knocking on the door. Think this is the right group for her.
#1 Moorea Time	She hasn't shown enough late to make a real impact through two starts, but she moved forward a bit in that second career start and might bring a better route try than we saw from her in the career debut.
#8 Smoove as Silk	She has to turn tables on a couple of these from that last effort, but she figures in line for a pretty good spying trip and might be able to hang around for a piece.
Race Summary	Loyal to a Fault should be tough here with her baseline effort, and she should be right up near the splits while getting the jump on a handful of the other logical players.

Del Mar - Race #5

#8 Icy Flavor	He took a big step up when getting on the turf in that second trip to post, and he should get a nice go of things while flashing some pace from the outside. Tough here.
#5 Swinningwithsharks	He has shown some pretty remarkable versatility on his page with sharp frontrunning efforts mixed with something like that big finish last time out after the slow break. Lots to like.
#1 George Herman Ruth	While his best game has come going longer, he rallied okay last out despite having a tricky trip, and he might be along late for a piece of this at a decent number.
Race Summary	Icy Flavor steps up off a nice maiden claiming score, and he looks like a good fit with this group while trying winners for the first time.
