Aqueduct Racetrack Selections for February 3, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

Aqueduct Racetrack Selections for February 3, 2022 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re off and running on the Thursday racecard at the BetOnline racebook. BetOnline has eight race tracks open for wagering this afternoon and evening. Charles Town has a twilight card, with the other racecourses having post time for early or mid-afternoon hours.

          Industry Leading 9% Cashback!

If you are looking ahead to the stakes card on Saturday, there are plenty of events, but none of them with huge purse money. There are 14 stakes races, with three $250,0000 Grade 3 events scheduled. I’m looking forward to the Holy Bull (Gr. 3) at Gulfstream Park the most on the weekend card.

Our first stop on Thursday is at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York. Located in Queens, Aqueduct Racetrack nine races worth $539,000 of racing on the card. Head below for our best Aqueduct Racetrack picks on February 2, 2022.

          (1) Ginnsu Warrior
          +600 (6/1)
          (2) St. Lukes
          +200 (2/1)
          (3) Dontbelate
          +2000 (20/1)
          (4) Lanfrankophile
          +800 (8/1)
          (5) R Doc
          +800 (8/1)
          (6) Hot Stepper
          +250 (5/2)
          (7) Convertible Freeze
          +300 (3/1)

          Post Time: 1:20 p.m. EST
          Distance:1 Mile
          Purse:$55,000

The second race at Aqueduct Racetrack is a mile for a $55,000 purse on Thursday afternoon. Look at Convertible Freeze and St. Lukes as top performers to consider in Race 2.

Convertible Freeze is a one-time winner through four events, with a winning run on 9th, 6th, 5th, 1st. In his most recent attempt, Convertible Freeze came through with a $43,000 win by 8 ¼ lengths over Devious Banker on December 16.

That was a good run from Convertible Freeze and improvement after finishing 5th on November 18 for a $70,000 purse. The class drop helped and should be competitive in the $55,000 grade.

St. Lukes has finished 3rd, 7th, 1st in three career starts. The gelding came on strong in his last showing on December 18. He came out firing with a blowout by 9 ¼ lengths for a $38,000 purse.

This was after a steep class drop from $90,000 at Belmont Park. If St. Lukes runs how he did in his last for a 9 ¼ length win, a $55,000 race versus this competition shouldn’t pose an issue.

          +350 (7/2)
          (3) Corageous Girl

          +2000 (20/1)
          (6) Default Protection
          +160 (8/5)

          Post Time: 1:50 p.m. EST
          Distance: 1 Mile
          Purse:$82,000

Race 3 looks like a good spot for Honey Money and Default Protection to have a serious chance. Honey Money is 6 for 19 and coming off a big run on January 20.

She has finished 4th, 2nd, 1st in her last three events since December 11. In that go on December 11, Honey Money struggled in 4th for a $74,000 purse.

Honey Money most recently did better to beat Epona’s Dream in the same $74,000 class by a head. That was nice improvement. More will be required after edging up in class today.

Default Protection has finished 3rd, 1st in two career races. She opened her career on December 3, showing 3rd for an $80,000 purse.

Following that attempt, Default Protection was improved as a sophomore on January 2. Chad Brown’s girl struck in an $80,000 race. She blew the field out in an epic romp by 12 ½ lengths.

If Default Protection wants to put in more work on Thursday, she should go back to the winner’s circle.

          +300 (3/1)
          (3) Little Menace
          +400 (4/1)
          (4) Farnished

          (5) Chestertown

          (6) Jemography
          +1500 (15/1)
          (7) Repo Rocks
          +350 (7/2)
          (8) Sibelius
          +1000 (10/1)

          Post Time: 4:25 p.m. EST
          Distance:7 Furlongs
          Purse:$84,000

Race 8 is our final look at Aqueduct for Thursday. We have a keen interest in Buy Land And See on these terms.

Buy Land and See is 3 for 9 in his career and finished 7th, 4th, 3rd in his last three attempts. Buy Land and See showed 3rd on New Year’s Eve for an $84,000 purse.

This was after going 4th on November 7 in an $80,000 assignment after appearing in graded racing. Buy Land and See is hanging around the $84,000 class, but capable of better than what we’ve seen as of late.

Answer In could be the best value bet in this one. The gelding is 4 for 14 in his career, going 1st, 5th, 4th, 1st in his previous four attempts.

He is coming off a win by a neck for a $60,000 prize on December 17. He’s kicking back up in class on Thursday, but this field doesn’t pose the biggest threat.

Answer In should be competitive with a chance to get there at the wire. His value is worth considering.

Top Horse Racing Picks for Thursday, February 3, 2022
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

Of the three horse racing tracks I visited for my picks—Aqueduct Racetrack, Fair Grounds Race Course, and Sam Houston Race Park—you won’t find anything but underdog moneymakers among my choices until you get to Sam Houston. And while I picked two favorites there, I still found a 6/1 underdog to tout.

Before you head on down to the details, make sure you review the race-cards for each of the three tracks at our recommended horse racing wagering sites.

            Good luck!
My Thursday Picks for Aqueduct Racetrack

We’re on the main track for race two, a one-mile starter optional claiming run for three-year-olds. My money’s on the second-favored (at 5/2) Hot Stepper, piloted by top jockey Trevor McCarthy.

This gelding finished in the money only once in his four career starts, breaking his maiden last month at Aqueduct. What impresses me is that a month earlier—in December—he finished fourth of a field of eleven in the New York Stallion Series Stakes (Black Type).
For both his maiden victory and the stakes race money finish, Hot Stepper lay back in the tall grass and waited for his opportunity to run for home.

Hot stepper is trained by owner Charlton Baker, who has been ranked among the top trainers in North America for wins, earnings, or both since the year 2000.

Race three is a one-mile allowance run for fillies and mares four years old and upward. I like one of the third-favored entries (there are two at 7/2 in this race): Honey Money, with Trevor McCarthy aboard.

This five-year-old mare moneyed 12 of her 19 career starts, winning six, including her most recent. In this talented six-horse field, it doesn’t hurt that she’s got McCarthy in the irons, but it’s her record and speed figures that really convince me she’s got this one.

With nearly two decades in the business, Wayne Potts trains Honey Money for owners Frank Catapano and Nicholas Primpas. Potts tapped McCarthy to saddle Honey Money for her two most recent races.

Race eight is a seven-furlong allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the second-favored (at 3/1) Answer In, ridden by veteran jockey Kendrick Carmouche.

This five-year-old gelding finished nine of his 14 career starts in the money, winning four, including his most recent here at Aqueduct. He most notably finished third in the Southwest Stakes (Grade III), a a 2020 Kentucky Derby prep race. He continues to post consistently high speed figures.

Robert N. Falcone, Jr. trains Answer In for Beast Mode Racing LLC.
Thursday Picks for Fair Grounds Race Course

We’re starting on the main track with race three, a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race for four-year-olds and upward. In this talented short field of five, I’m buying a win ticket on one of the third-favored (there are two entries at 7/2)—Long Weekend, with newcomer Rene Diaz aboard.

This five-year-old moneyed nine of his 13 career starts, winning six. Most notably, he won the Bachelor Stakes (Listed) and the Gazebo Stakes (Black Type) back-to-back at Oaklawn Park in 2020.

Breeders’ Cup veteran Thomas M. Amoss trains Long Weekend for B.C.W.T. Ltd. Amoss has two horses in this race—the other is the 9/5 favorite, Isolate.

Race seven is a one mile and 70 yards allowance optional claiming race on the main track for fillies and mares four years old and upward. Here’s another evenly matched race where I’m going to the longer odds for my winner: Threewickedwishes (one of four horses the morning-line has at 6/1 in this seven-horse race), ridden by Emanuel Nieves.

This five-year-old mare finished seven of her ten career starts in the money, winning four.

Longtime horse racing veteran Joseph M. Foster trains Threewickedwishes for owner Richard B. Benton. Foster put Nieves in the irons for Threewickedwishes’ last two rides, resulting in a third and a first, both at Louisiana Downs.

Race nine is a 1-1/16 miles allowance optional claiming race on the main track for four-year-olds and upward. My money’s on the second-favored (at 4/1) Gulfstream Way, piloted by Mitchell Murrill.

This four-year-old gelding moneyed two of his four career starts, winning one.
Compared to the rest of this eight-horse field, Gulfstream Way is primed for a visit to the winner’s circle.

With more than three decades in the horse racing business, James E. Baker trains Gulfstream Way for Never Better Stables, LLC. Baker has put Murrill in the saddle for Gulfstream Way’s last three races, including his maiden victory.
Thursday’s Picks for Sam Houston Race Park

Let’s begin with race two, a one-mile starter optional claiming race on the main track for four-year-olds and upward. I agree with the morning-line here, so I’m betting on the 5/2 favorite, Close to Midnight, ridden by Freddy Jose Manrrique.

This eight-year-old gelding has the right stuff to win in this otherwise unimpressive ten-horse field: 22 money finishes in 43 career starts, ten of them wins.
Year after year, Close to Midnight has performed well for his connections and for those who bought tickets to watch him earn his keep.

Forty-year horse racing veteran Frank Lucarelli trains Close to Midnight for owners Chad and Josh.

Race six is a seven-furlong allowance race on the dirt track for four-year-olds and upward.

I’m betting my two dollars on the coupled entry—but only because of the front half, Maxi Moon, with Ry Eikleberry aboard.

The 1/1A coupled entry is running at 6/1 morning-line odds, and Equibase has both entries jockeyed by Eikleberry. The top-100-ranked Karl Broberg trains both Maxi Moon and the other half of the coupled entry—Ride Richie Ride—for End Zone Athletics, Inc.

In case Maxi Moon doesn’t make it to the starting gate, my contingency pick is a win ticket on the second-favored (at 4/1) Mau Mau, piloted by Gerardo Mora.

Trained by Danny Pish for Eleven One Racing Stables, this five-year-old gelding moneyed six of his 16 career starts, winning four.

Race seven is a six-furlong allowance optional claiming race for three-year-old fillies. I’m betting on the 5/2 morning-line favorite, Texas Ascot Queen, with Lane J. Luzzi in the irons.

Texas Ascot Queen finished in the money two of her three career starts, both of them wins—her graduation run in July at Lone Star Park, and a claiming race here at Sam Houston last month. While this nine-horse field has plenty of eager and able competition, I still see Texas Ascot Queen as my no-brainer pick of the day.

Regularly ranked among the top trainers for the past eight years, J. R. Caldwell trains Texas Ascot Queen for Indigo Racing.

Sam Houston Picks: Comedian no joke in R2 on February 3
              By J.N. Campbell

Sam Houston Race Park Picks - Thursday, February 3, 2022

              Race 1: 6-3-8-4
              Race 2: 7-4-8-10
              Race 3: 6-3-8-5
              Race 4: 8-9-2-4
              Race 5: 9-5-6-2
              Race 6: 10-1/1A-4-2
              Race 7: 3-1-6-5
              Race 8: 9-10-3-6
              Race 9: 7-1-4-9
**Most Likely Winner: Comedian #7 (Race 2)**
**Best Value: Elusive Freud #9 (Race 5)**

Most Likely Winner: (Race 2: Comedian #7, 7/2):

I have been extolling the virtues of this 6-yr-old gelding that is trained by Sarah Davidson since the Sam Houston Meet opened early last month. Owned by Cecil Peters, this well-bred Into Mischief gelding was probably up against too high a company in his ’22 debut at the ALLW level. In the opinion of this ‘capper, switching to the turf next out was no easy task either. Despite such a roadblock, I liked his turn-of-foot late in that contest, just missing by half a length. Into Mischiefs … they are versatile. Against this lot, he should be able to take advantage of the pace scenario, and exhibit his talent on the dirt. Don’t count out jockey Pivaral, who is just getting going …

              Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #7

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 5: Elusive Freud #9, 30/1):

Danny Caldwell is a former coach who realized his dream to become a Thoroughbred owner through hard work, smart decision-making, and some luck. His success has come in bunches over the years, and at places like Remington and Oaklawn, he has proved his ability … time and time again in the race for titles. He comes to Sam Houston with a colt by Freud that is conditioned by his “main man,” Martin Villafranco. The former member of Jack Sisterson’s outfit was in Hot Springs last time out in an MC30k event, and even though the colt did not show much, it was a tough spot. Now, coming into this MSW36k, he is going to be a fabulous price. Villafranco makes the move to “Blinkers,” and adds the services of Floyd Wethey, a rider with good sprint piloting skills. Sounds like a deal to me …

              Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #9 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 6: Dirt, 7F, ALLW37k, 4+):

With a full field of 11, this ALLW Co. race should be a good one. A survey of the M/L odds alone tells a story of parity … no deserving favorite afoot in this spot. The closest thing to a short-priced runner is probably Scott Young’s Have a Plan #2. The gelding by Bayern was in an OC30k at SHRP last time out, and he really went to pieces by the time the top of the lane arrived. I would not say this race is a cutback, since he is only dropping back a furlong. Certainly, the riding ability of Jansen Melancon is solid right now (19/4-0-1), but I want to look elsewhere for my “key” horse. I think I found a pick in Mindy Willis’ Im the Machine #10. Talk about a nice price at 20/1 … This gelding by Macho Rocket has the class to hang in this spot, and has a chance to come back nicely after running 5th in a similar just over a week ago. Willis is a seasoned trainer, and I don’t think she would make such a move without cause. Rider Alfredo Triana has some deep experience with this one, and he really just needs a clean trip. That has just been nothing short of non-existent … stumble, too late a bid, and no threat … As for a couple of others to roll in underneath, I want to use the Broberg coupled entry, Maxi Moon #1 and Ride Richie Ride #1A. Each of these has some experience sprinting, and I am sure that the Dallas-based trainer will scratch one of them. Rounding out my ticket, let’s use J.R. Caldwell’s new acquisition, Deanos Cape #4, because this son of The Factor has been around the block, and with the skills of Lane Luzzi, could easily get a piece of the action. Let’s go racing at Sam!

              Wagering Recommendation: $2 Superfecta Wheel, 10 w 1-1A/2/4 w 1-1A/2/4 w 1-1A/2/4

Rocket Picks : Gulfstream Park and Aqueduct for February 3, 2022
                  By: Aaron Halterman

It’s another Thursday of racing! For the free pick 4, we will head to Aqueduct today, which has a solid card. We will also be covering Gulfstream Park today for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. We’ve been hot lately, so hopefully we can keep it up! Let’s kick off the week in a good way!

Below is our free Late Pick 4 for Aqueduct:

                  Aqueduct February 3, 2022

                  Race 6: Allowance Optional Claiming

#8 Total Effort runs first off the claim for Potts in this spot, which usually leads to an improved effort. #4 My Boy Colton ran decently over the dirt last time out, and could improve today in his second straight start over the surface.

                  Race 7: Maiden Claiming
                  freestar

#7 Tale of Mineshaft will move over to the dirt for this race, while dropping down in class, and running for Rob Atras for the first time. #4 Malibu Star will also be taking a major drop down in class after struggling in his last two starts.

                  Race 8: Claiming

#3 Little Menace runs first off the claim for Atras in this spot, while also moving up in class, which is a good sign that he likes this horse. #1 Buy Land and See was third in his dirt debut today, and should improve in his second start over the track.

                  Race 9: Claiming

#6 Eminency has been within a length of winning in both of his starts so far. Today should be the day for him to get it done. #9 Infeasible should show improvement today after a poor effort on debut last time out.

                  THE TICKET

                  $.50 Pick 4 (Races 6-9) 4,6,8 / 4,7,8,9 / 1,2,3,7 / 6,9 – $48

Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Thursday, February 3
Posted on February 2, 2022 by David Aragona

                    RACE 3: VIENNA CODE (#4)

Default Protection figures to go favored here off a smashing 12-length maiden victory for in her second start for Chad Brown. She went off a the 3-1 second choice that day as her stablemate Precipitate took all the money. Yet that rival was eased down the backstretch and Default Protection was more than good enough to step into the spotlight. She put in a strong final quarter mile as she powered away to an easy victory, but there wasn’t much behind her among those who actually finished the race. The best thing she has going for her is her trainer, as Chad Brown is 10 for 27 (37%, $2.39 ROI) with last-out maiden winners in Aqueduct dirt routes over the past 5 years. This is a fairly competitive spot in which you can make a case for just about everyone except longshot Bravo Regina. Honey Money looks like the potential speed, but she’s stepping up to face a tougher field than last time. I gave a look to Courageous Girl, who was against the track when a distant third against stakes company last time. However, she just has one speed figure that makes her a major player. My top pick is Vienna Code. She was on the best part of the track when setting the pace in the Ladies last time, but she just wants no part of 1 1/8 miles. Now she cuts back to an appropriate one-turn distance and I think she’s catching a reasonable field for the level. She was easily better than Honey Money when they met going this distance two back, and she’s been steadily improving for quite some time for low-profile connections. She should work out her preferred trip coming from just off the pace.

RACE 4: CHECK THAT CHIP (#5)

Actualize made his debut against maiden claimers, in which he produced an extremely fast opening quarter after a poor start. He then got reined in heading to the half-mile pole and was passed on the turn before rallying again in the stretch. That was a strong race for the level as both runners who beat him have returned to win with strong speed figures. He’s been claimed out of that race by Charlton Baker, who is 3 for 8 (38%, $2.87 ROI) first off the claim with maidens over 5 years, and is also in the midst of a strong Aqueduct meet. I view him as the one to beat. First time starter Capone could also take money off some quick gate drills at Belmont, but I prefer to take the wait and see approach with Jimmy Jerkens debut runners. Several runners in this field exit the fifth race on Dec. 30. Rhumjar could take some money after checking in second that day, but he got a great trip in doing so. I’m most interested in Check That Chip. This colt took some money to get bet down to 5-1, but ran like a horse who needed the experience. He got bumped coming out of the gate and then steadied, putting him at the back of the pack. He launched a middle move into contention on the far turn but ultimately flattened out while racing greenly. That was also a track that was favoring front-running types, so he was compromised by that as well. Now he adds blinkers, which should help him focus, and the way he rushed up last time suggests he has more tactical speed.

RACE 9: BEACH BOY AL (#3)

Eminency is obviously the horse to beat as he makes his third career start. He did disappoint as the even-money favorite last time when unable to get the job done after working out a decent trip. Despite that regression, this colt showed ability in his debut, in which he took a good late run at talented winner Agility. Third-place finisher Impressionist returned from that race to win his next start impressively, and the same was expected of Eminency. Now he adds blinkers and gets a rider upgrade to Trevor McCarthy. Yet the latter of those two changes will just ensure that he’s a short price once again, and he faces some others worth considering who exit that same Jan. 9 race. The one that I prefer is second time starter Beach Boy Al. This gelding made his debut in that common race last time and arguably ran a better race than Eminency despite finishing just behind that rival. He contested the early lead and engaged in a battle with third-place finisher Raw Courage a long way out from the wire. Beach Boy Al actually surged to the lead in mid-stretch, but understandably got leg-weary late. The early pace of that 7-furlong affair was fast, and it took its toll on this horse in the late stages. Now he stretches out for his second start and should have gained some needed fitness from the debut run. He may have to deal with the early speed of Pineapple Man to his outside, but Beach Boy Al didn’t seem like a horse who necessarily needed the lead in his debut. I’d also use He’s Got It and State Planning from that same race. He’s Got It handled the transition to dirt and stayed on mildly, whereas State Planning obviously has room for improvement after blowing the start and racing very greenly.

                      #11
                      Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

                      Fair Grounds - Race #3
                      Picks Notes
#5 Emerald Forest He might get a bit overlooked as he steps up for this one off the nice score last out, and he draws very well to find a perfect pressing run from the outside in a race where almost all of them have similar styles and will have to sort themselves out early. He's also fast enough to go if necessary.
#1 Sounion He should be in the mix from the start from the rail, but I like the fact that he can tuck in the pocket if anyone wants to cross over with speed early. It has historically been the shorter, the better for this guy, so this trip suits.
#2 Isolate He's another who has the kind of pace to be in the frame early on, but I wouldn't want him at any short price here. Capable, but Sounion beat him with ease a couple starts back, and that guy might offer a better number.
Race Summary A broad multi-condition allowance race brings us a classy and competitive group. Emerald Forest draws perfectly, as those inside all have positional pace, but nobody is really committed to the front. He's probably quick enough to find the lead if they want, but he has a pressing gear to prompt anyone who wants to have a run for it early.

                      Fair Grounds - Race #4
                      Picks Notes
#5 Tethered Think this filly is worth a look after making a mild middle move while up against it in a short field last out, and she bled and was vanned off after stopping late. Thinking she might sustain a move better here at a nice price.
#7 Vicious Velma The turf tries have been hit or miss, but she appears to be a good fit at this level and looks like the controlling pace. She looks like the one to beat with a real chance to wire these.
#3 Hero's Daughter She has always been more of an underneath type, but her recent turf form is pretty competitive here, and she'll probably get put into the race a bit early to track the pace.
Race Summary I respect #1 Livy B, but I'll stand against off the finishing run last out and make her prove she can repeat it. Tethered will offer a price, and I liked the way she looked before fading in the last one. The fact that she bled offers an additional excuse, so let's see if she can move forward in a big way here.

                      Fair Grounds - Race #8
                      Picks Notes
#5 Both Ours Have been waiting for this one to get on the lawn since the debut last summer, and she'll almost surely offer a fair price while stepping up into special weight company. Her pedigree brings a heavy turf lean for a LA-bred, and I wouldn't be surprised to see show up today with some interesting turf sprint pace.
#12 Shesabeautydancer She'll debut for a capable team in what doesn't feel like the deepest spot, and she might be able to make an impact at first asking despite being bred to go longer than this.
#3 The Grey Beauty She's the proven one from the same barn as Shesabeautydancer, and she ran a really good one at 30/1 in the career debut at this same trip. Worry she's overbet, but she's an obvious player.
Race Summary I'd also want #2 Zumra Bayou on the tickets as she steps up to try the turf, as she has what looks like inside pace here. Both Ours should be in the picture early, and both sides of her pedigree suggest the move to the grass might bring out the best she has to offer right now.

                        Picks Notes
#2 MAJOR IMPACT Lacked running room until stretch, exploded through opening, taken to repeat.
#1 ROUNDTOWN ROCKER Took step back in last pair, changes drivers again, price goes up.
#8 VECTOR Seeks fourth front-end victory in a row, starts outside for new barn.
Race Summary Major Impact steps up in class off a deceptively good victory. He was unhurried in third and trapped by a lively outer flow until he found room inside in the stretch. He won going away and is today's Best Bet.

#8 RYDGEMONT SON N Stayed flat in qualifier but not on race day, all-or-nothing longshot.
#7 HOLDIN ACES Rallied into slow pace to finish third from same post.
#10 TUCKERS OUT Second twice recently when he stayed flat, post the concern.
Race Summary Rydgemont Son N has ability but can't shake his breaking habit. As his odds escalate, he's worth one more try to light up the odds board. Play an 8-ALL exacta.

                        Miami Valley - Race #4
                        Picks Notes
#9 VOLUPTUOUS Figures tough on class drop, gets pace to run at.
#7 NARCIAN JEWEL Changed tactics, led through :57 middle half, tired.
#1 SCREAMIN DEMON Recovered quickly from early break, tired in stretch, driver's choice of three.
Race Summary Voluptuous, an eight-time winner and $87k earner last year, gets class relief but starts from post 9. She should get ample pace flow to launch a winning rally. Play 9-1 and 9-7 exactas.

                          Picks Notes
#1 The Skipper Too Came up short running two turns last out and was a winner the last time he was at this seven-furlong distance; gets Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard.
#4 Gloucester Was an easy winner in his only start and keep Saez for the return; capable of another big effort.
#2 Bird Wildcat Broke his maiden sprinting two back and lost a photo going two turns last out; figures in the mix.
Race Summary The Skipper Too turns back from running long and probably can regain some late pop here.

                          Gulfstream Park - Race #7
                          Picks Notes
#3 Old Town Road Won three straight and then suffered his only loss when he was fifth in Tampa's Inaugural; has been very tough and should be able to handle the synth.
#1 Gone Nuts Was a clear maiden winner last out, which marked his only synth start; has good speed and can be on or close to the lead.
#4 Bueno Bueno Gave way from early efforts in the Limehouse Stakes here and has enough speed to be a factor from the start.
Race Summary Old Town Road lost his unblemished record when defeated last out and can get back to good things here.

                          Gulfstream Park - Race #8
                          Picks Notes
#4 Battle Cry Powered home for an sharp score going a mile and the seven furlongs of this one should not be a problem.
#8 Pass the Champagne Lost to Malathaat by a head in the G1 Ashland at Keeneland and has been idle since a tough 12th in the G1 Kentucky Oaks. She's certainly the class, and the long layoff gives others a chance.
7 Only Kidding Wore down rivals for a maiden win last out and can be a factor if she runs back to that.
Race Summary Battle Cry was a pro last time as she stalked and took over for the win; she has a lot of experience and could be at the top of her game.

The BetOnline racebook has a decent card for wagering on Thursday afternoon and evening. The most notable racecourse on the grid has to be Aqueduct Racetrack. Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans also has action at their track on Thursday.

There isn’t too much to look forward to before the end of the month. The Pegasus World Cup came and went quickly, with the $1,000,000 Rebel Stakes (Gr. 1) at Oaklawn Park the next event on the calendar worth a million. The Rebel Stakes is scheduled for the end of the month in Arkansas.

We’re at Aqueduct Racetrack and Delta Downs on Thursday afternoon. Delta Downs has nine races on the synthetic track for $148,000 in prize money. Head below for our best Delta Downs picks on Febraury 3, 2022.

                            +350 (7/2)

                            Post Time: 1:23 p.m. CST
                            Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
                            Purse:$17,000

Race 2 is a $17,000 event covering 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Consider playing Justa Swinging and Yank Crime for a win in this one. If Yank Crime is scratched, do not play Sailing Jett alone.

Justa Swinging has to be considered based on where he’s been going recently. He has finished 2nd, 1st, 7th in his previous three outings.

The No. 7 came on strong two races back with a head win in a $24,000 event on November 27. That was a productive performance after placing 2nd behind Perfect Mistake by a nose in a $17,000 race.

Justa Swinging experienced an up-in-class trip on December 18 for a $46,000 purse. That didn’t go well for 7th, so it’s back down to the $17,000 level.

Yank Crime is 2 for 12 in his career and has finished 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st in his last four attempts. In his most recent, Yank Crime came through with a $13,000 win by 6 ½ lengths on January 12.

That was much too easy for Yank Crime. Up to the $17,000 level shouldn’t bother Yank Crime too much. This is his race if he wants it.

                            Distance: 1 Mile
                            Purse:$38,000

Race 3 is a $38,000 event covering a mile on the dirt. This looks like a good one between Oak Hill Seniorita and Girls Count in the stretch.

Oak Hill Seniorita is winless through ten outings and will have a chance on these terms after finishing 7th, 4th, 4th in her last three races. She most recently finished 4th for a $38,000 purse on January 13.

Oak Hill Seniorita was 4th prior to that run in the same grade. In this one, she should see slightly weaker competition, though Girls Count will be there to provide a big fight.

Girls Count is winless in 11 races, but came on hard in her most recent showing. Girls Count placed 2nd behind Alhambra Palace for a $38,000 purse.

That was a solid attempt after going 4th on January 5 in a $25,000 event. There should be competition in this event, but Girls Count holds a leading chance based in her last race.

                            Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
                            Purse:$13,000

Race 6 runs for a $13,000 purse covering 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Friendly and Kind should have a presence in the stretch run for the top prize.

Friendly and Kind is 12 for 39 in her career and has finished 7th, 2nd, 2nd, 4th in her previous four outings. She had a couple of good trips on November 27 and December 30, placing 2nd in two $13,000 races.

The mare wasn’t able to come closer on January 14, as she settled for 4th in the same grade. She isn’t going anywhere and appearing in another $13,000 race.

Eternal Endeavour is 5 for 30 in her career and in the best consistency of her career right now. The British bred mare is 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st in her last four.

She came through on January 12 in her last start for a 4 ½ length $12,000 win. That was too easy. Prior to that win, Eternal Endeavour placed 2nd behind Goodnightsugar by a neck in a $12,000 race.

Edging up slightly to $13,000, this shouldn’t be too difficult against a field of this caliber. Look for Eternal Endeavour to have a serious chance for a win.
                            The Bet
                            (2) ETERNAL ENDEAVOUR
