    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

    Parx Racing - Race #6
#6 Know It Now Landed the maiden win by a nose off the bench last time out, and this is a pretty reasonable spot to try winners for the first time without stepping into a N1X spot where he'd almost surely be overmatched right now.
#1 Heart Rhythm He is protected here by way of the starter condition, and he should appreciate a little class relief out of a couple of better spots. The cutback should work in her favor with better form going shorter.
#4 Hard to Be Humble He was a nice turf sprint winner on debut, but that was a year and a half ago, and he resurfaces here with Jamie Ness to try the dirt. The maiden win was pretty solid, but that was a long time ago. Underlay?
Race Summary Know It Now might offer a playable price while rising into this optional-claiming spot, and she has a little bit of tactical pace at this kind of trip.
    Parx Racing - Race #10
#7 King's House A couple of sharp forward players might all him to get a similar trip to the one that netted him a win a few starts back. He isn't the most reliable at passing horses, but he proved capable of it when getting towed into the pace that day -- something that might happen again here while outside of the other pace.
#4 Town Jak He has pretty reliable off-the-pace form, but he's tactical enough to sit close in the early going. He's probably tough while getting back in with this kind, but he doesn't have to win this.
#1 Spikes Shirl This local trip might work well for him, and he may be able to save some ground on the rail and pass some tiring ones late. Price player for the gimmicks.
Race Summary King's House is quick and does good work on the front end, but he gets the right draw to watch things unfold between the other pace players and try to score with a first-jump trip.
    Parx Racing - Race #11
#2 Diesel Not a ton to write home about in this group, so the dropper gets the call after fading in the first two starts. Perhaps has mild forward ability will pack a bigger punch with this easier group.
#7 Liquor I guess he's the one to beat while trying this level for the first time with competitive figures, but he has had 10 chances and owns plenty of no-show races. Wouldn't want this guy at something like the ML price.
#9 Galtero Not expecting a huge effort out of this guy at first asking for a 6% debut barn, but there really isn't much depth in this group, and even a decent sort of effort might be enough to land him an underneath piece of this at a price.
Race Summary Diesel drops out of a couple of PA-bred maiden special weight spots, and he has flashed a little bit of chasing pace that might hold up a bit better with these.

      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Scioto Downs - Race #3
#3 BILLABONG BEACH Missed a week sick, holds tactical edge if ready.
#1 HONEY I'M HOME Plagued by bad starting spots, gets the rail today.
#4 BIG BAD E T Rallied for minor awards in his last three starts.
Race Summary Billabong Beach ended a long winless drought three back, paced evenly in a fast follow-up race and can make good use of his speed in this spot as he seeks his 23rd lifetime victory. Play 3-1 and 3-4 exactas.
      Hoosier Park - Race #1
#2 CLASSIC VIRGIN Bounce back candidate with return to off-pace tactics.
#1 FRED'S BID Useful qualifiers, need not be much for high-percentage barn.
#5 GIMME SUNSHINE Begins 3-year-old season after six months away.
Race Summary Classic Virgin back-pedaled in an unfamiliar lead role last out, but his race two back was solid, as he followed the winning favorite and ran third. Hoping for a return to his wake-up effort. Play 2-1 and 2-5 exactas.
      Northfield Park - Race #15
#9 GRANDPAS DREAM Inherited pocket, couldn't reach 9-1 winner through slow final quarter.
#1 CREDIT SKILL Distant third behind 2-to-5 favorite, draws rail again.
#3 UNCLEPETE FORCASH Chased 8-5 winner, won prior three times he stayed flat.
Race Summary Grandpas Dream chased the loose, longshot winner after the pocket sitter went off stride. He settled for second best as the odds-on favorite but should at least offer some value tonight with a second-tier starting spot in a deeper field. Play a 9-ALL exacta.

        Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Will Rogers Downs - Race #0
#2 Lily Belle Broke her maiden two back and was fourth last out; can be in the mix from the outset of this one and should have enough to fight it out to the wire.
#1 Billie G Was third sprinting last time out and was second the last time she tried a mile, which came last summer at Fair Meadows; likely a big threat on the front end.
#4 Jollyville Broke her maiden at this distance (as a 6 year old) and backed out of her latest; can stay close with a slow pace.
Race Summary Lily Belle can stay within range and is likely to improve off her latest; fits well in this spot and should be able to finish well here.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #3
#3 Sooner Skuta Won his last two in easy fashion and shouldn't have a problem being competitive at the allowance level; has good late energy and fits here.
#2 Mega Bond Was an easy winner in his last two, the last at the allowance level; a third straight win would not be a surprise, but he's in tougher than he's been.
#4 Criminal Ran on for second last out and should appreciate the extra half-furlong; has been in decent spots and has performed well.
Race Summary Sooner Skuta likely will have the table set with a fast pace, and while far back early, he ought to be able to pick off his opposition in the final furlong.
Will Rogers Downs - Race #10
#6 Shannon C Has faced some of the regions better sprinters and has the speed lead for every stride of this one; set to get his first win since June.
#1 Quality Rocket Made a solid move and finished second vs. similar last time; often wants more ground, and he'll be rolling at the end of this one.
#2 Double Barrel Man Comes in from Evangeline, where he won his latest against claimers; has taken two of his last three and can carve out a good trip from just off the leaders.
Race Summary Shannon C is extremely quick and has been up against some outstanding rivals; has the class to prevail.

We like the Over on Wednesday between Juventus and Sassuolo.
Juventus were embarrassed at the weekend by AC Milan and will look to bounceback quickly here with a win on the road against Sassuolo. But the Bianconeri have been extremely suspect at the back of late, conceding first in three straight away matches, but have rectified this by scoring twice as many goals beyond the hour mark on the road as their opponents have this season.
Sassuolo have also been poor defensively of late, conceding the opening goal in three of their last four, but do possess Serie A's 3rd best record after conceding first.
We see goals happening on Wednesday night over in Italy so take Juventus/Sassuolo Over 3 goals as your free play for Wednesday.

Not many NHL games left in the regular season have much meaning, but this Minnesota-St. Louis Wednesday nighter in the Gateway City does hold some playoff implications for the Wild as they still are mathematically alive for the # 2 seed in the division if they can take care of their business and get a little help.

The Wild is on a bit of an Over spree, as they come into this game with Over skated in their last pair and in 8 of their last 9 games overall.

The Blues have not been as prolific in the Over department with Unders played in their last pair and in 4 of their last 5, but expect there to be some intensity in this meeting tonight and expect the St. Louis 4-1 Under run to trend the other way tonight.

Season series numbers show 3 in a row this season and 4 of the teams last 5 meetings having played Over the total.

              This one will too.

              Wild-Blues Over on Wednesday.

              3* MINNESOTA-ST. LOUIS OVER

The Spurs were in desperate need of stopping their gaping wound on Monday night when they played Milwaukee at home on a 1-6 straight up slide. Coach Pop's club left little doubt about the outcome as they took over early and often, building a 45-36 lead after one quarter and went on to a 146-125 rout of the Bucks as the +7 points home underdog. That win kept the Spurs on the #10 line for the postseason and improved their lead over the Pelicans to 2 1/2 games with just 4 remaining.

San Antonio isn't exactly in the clear as they must deal with the Nets tonight in Brooklyn and the Knicks tomorrow night in Manhattan before heading back home to close with a pair against Phoenix. That being the case, no room for any slipups and while the Spurs may not have enough to win this game outright, I do like them plus the points to stay inside of the number.

The Nets are the current # 2 seed in the East standings, but chances they catch Philadelphia for the top-spot do not appear likely and with a 1-4 slide before beating Chicago last night in the Windy City the Nets sure seem as if they don't really care if they squander the # 2 seed to the right-behind-them Bucks.

This is a back-to-back spot for Brooklyn and even though playoff positioning is on the line, coach Steve Nash has shown this season that wins are not as important as his players being properly rested. While on that topic, Kyrie Irving left last night's game after taking a hit to the face and my guess is he could well sit this one out tonight. That being the case, let's take the underdog Spurs out for a spin this Wednesday at the Barclays Center.

The Spurs did take the Nets to overtime in their first meeting at home back on March 1st before losing by 11 as the +4 point home dog, so they know they are capable of playing this Brooklyn team down to the wire. I like them to do just that tonight.

                2* SAN ANTONIO

                      Evangeline Downs - Race #2 - Post: 6:17pm - Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,000 Class Rating: 66

                      Rating:

                      #6 MR LEO (ML=2/1)
                      #1 HASHTAG SPEED (ML=15/1)

MR LEO - Rider and conditioner do well when they join forces. Fusilier and Matthieu have been steady together. Gelding's last work was second fastest of the day for the distance. Ranked numero uno in earnings per start. Another indicator that this horse is the class of the race. HASHTAG SPEED - I expect this thoroughbred to surprise some handicappers this time around.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #4 TRAELEE (ML=6/5), #3 OPTIMISTIC (ML=4/1), #5 ROYAL GALAXY (ML=6/1),

TRAELEE - Run-of-the-mill speed fig in the last race at Delta Downs at 5 furlongs. Don't think this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's race. OPTIMISTIC - This gelding finished out of the money on Apr 6th and wasn't close to victory in the last race either. ROYAL GALAXY - Equibase speed figures tell a story of lessening physical condition.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: #6 MR LEO to win at post-time odds of 5/2 or better
                      EXACTA WAGERS: Box [1,6]

                        Race 1 - Claiming - 8.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $8250 Class Rating: 61

FOR FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON TWO RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 118 LBS.; OLDER, 124 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $7,500.

                        RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                        # 1 BILLIE G 9/5
                        # 2 LILLY BELLE 7/2
                        # 5 SATURDAY SERVICE 2/1
BILLIE G could be the wager in here. Could provide positive gains based on formidable recent speed figs with an average of 62. A solid 70 avg Equibase class figure may give this mare a distinct class edge against this group of horses in this race. Has to be given a shot against this field displaying strong numbers lately and an average speed figure of 67 under similar conditions. LILLY BELLE - She looks decent in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the midpoint. SATURDAY SERVICE - Must be carefully examined based on the competitive speed fig recorded in the last race. This filly looks good in this race since Ashford has a sharp win percentage with horses going this distance.
