Texas State opened the season with THREE 20-win seasons in its last four but has an interim head coach in Terrence Johnson, following the resignation of Danny Kaspar in September. MSU's Ben Howland begins his fifth season as the Bulldogs' head coach, coming off a 20-11 record last season, the school's third consecutive 20-win season. The Bulldogs were on a roll (had won 11 of their last 15) and finished with an 11-7 mark in SEC conference play, earning the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, earning a bye to the quarterfinals. However, COVID-19 canceled the SEC tourney and then all postseason tourneys.

Texas State lost its lone double-digit scorer from last season in guard Person (19.4 & 5.4) plus forward Terry (8.4 & 3.7). 5-9 PG Harrell is back (8.9 PPG last season), as is the 6-8 Small. Harrell is off to a strong start, averaging 16.5 PPG and 3.5 APG with Small averaging 8.0 PPG. 6-7 returning forward Sule has averaged 11.0 & 3.5 and guard Asberry has added 11.0 & 5.5. Small is one of SIX players contributing between 6.0 & 8.5 PPG.

Ben Howland lost his four best players in the 6-10 Reggie Perry (17.4 & 10.1), plus guards Tyson Carter (13.9), Robert Woodard (11.4 & 6.5) and Nick Weatherspoon (11.6-3.5-4.1). Guard DJ Stewart returns (8.5) as does the 6-11 Abdul Ado (5.7 & 6.7) plus Howland is counting on 6-6 forward Jalen Johnson, a transfer from Louisiana who averaged 15.5 points and 6.6 rebounds for the Ragin’ Cajuns last season. Stewart has started well, averaging 16.0-4.5-3.0 and Ado 7.0 & 6.0. Johnson has started slower than expected averaging 6.0 & 3.0 but the 6-10 Tolu Smith (W Ky transfer) is averaging 16.0 & 8.5.

The Bulldogs (0-2) dropped a pair of games played in Melbourne, Fl, to Clemson of the ACC on Wednesday and Liberty on Thursday (Flames were 30-4 last season). In contrast, the Bobcats' 2-0 start has been built with wins over Mary Hardn Bylr (who?) and Texas A&M-CC. Now, they take the road for an away game at an SEC school which has had THREE straight 20-win seasons. Lay it!.

Monday NFL Free play. My selection is on Philadelphia plus the points over Seattle at 8:15 pm et on Monday.
I'll grab the generous helping of points with the Eagles as they host the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Philadelphia has obviously been a bit of a disaster here in 2020 but I do still believe in the talent it has on the field and see this as a strong motivational spot at home against Seattle, which is traveling across the country having not played since a week ago Thursday against the Cardinals. As bad as the Eagles have looked at times, the fact remains that they're in the thick of the NFC East title hunt and might have the inside track if they can earn a victory tonight. Based on how they've played over the last couple of games, I'm not sure the Seahawks are trustworthy laying nearly a touchdown on the road at the moment. In a game that could very well go down to the wire, I'll take the points. Take Philadelphia (8*).

I'll back Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide at basically a pick'em against Stanford in Monday's neutral site showdown. Alabama is a scary team to play with their frantic pace and ability to score in bunches. They put up 81 and won by 24 in their opener against Jacksonville State and did so shooting a mere 7-31 (22.6%) from behind the 3-point line. Stanford hasn't played and that's worth noting, as I think having a game under their belt is a huge plus for the Crimson Tide in this matchup. Play Alabama -1.5!
