The Key: Coastal Carolina is in a big letdown spot after improving to 8-0 after beating the defending Sun Belt champion Appalachian State Mountaineers last week. And they have a huge game on deck next week against Liberty. They will be flat this week against Texas State. The Bobcats are just 2-9 this season but they are fighting hard. They have gone 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. They covered in losses to Louisiana, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern which are 3 of the better teams in the Sun Belt and were competitive in all 3 games. Then they upset Arkansas State 47-45 last week and were finally rewarded for their hard play. That win will give them the confidence they need this week to compete with Coastal Carolina. They only lost 21-24 as 7-point dogs to Coastal Carolina last year. And this is their final game of the season so they should be all in against the unbeaten Chanticleers here. The Bobcats are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 home games after yielding 575 or more total yards last game. The Bobcats are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as home underdogs. Take Texas State.

I got to take a shot here with Auburn (+24.5) as a big dog against rival Alabama. No question that the Crimson Tide are the better team, but they won't have head coach Nick Saban and I think that's a bigger loss than people make. I also wonder if Auburn won't catch Alabama sleep-walking a bit early. No question the Tigers are going to treat this like their 'Super Bowl' I'm counting on this Auburn defense to keep Alabama under 40 and that should be more than good enough to get the cover. Play the Tigers +24.5!

I really like the OVER 55.5 in Saturday's ACC matchup between Boston College and Louisville. I'm a bit shocked this total isn't pushing 60. Last year these two teams had 60 by the end of the 3rd quarter, as they combined for 80 in a 41-39 Cardinals victory.
You have to love the fact that both of these teams have a talented guy under center. Boston College's Phil Jurkovec might be the best kept secret in the country. He's thrown for over 2,350 yards with a 17-5 TD/INT ratio. What people overlook with those numbers is that he's doing it behind one of the worst offensive lines in the country, who can't run block to save their lives.
Louisville's pass numbers are pretty good, but I just think it's a bit misleading given all the offenses they have faced. Only 3 of their 9 opponents attempts more than 30 passses against them. I'm pretty confident Jurkovec will be able to move the ball down the field.
As for the Cardinals offense, they are led by a talented dual threat in Malik Cunningham. He's thrown for over 2,000 yards with 16 TDs (11 INTs) and has rushed for 438 yards and 6 scores.
I just don't think BC has the talent up front to keep Cunningham from making plays with his feet, so even if a pass isn't there, he should be able to keep things going with his legs. Eagles haven't played many dual threat QBs but they did play a guy I think is pretty similar to Cunningham in Virginia Tech's Hendon Hooker. They gave up 40 to the Hokies, as Hooker went 11 of 15 passing and rushed for 164 yards and 3 scores. Give me the OVER 55.5!

Cross-divisional Big Ten Conference foes Rutgers and Purdue meet Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium, with both schools coming off heartbreaking losses. After a 2-0 start in this pandemic-shortened season, Purdue has lost back-to-back games. The Boilermakers' 34-31 loss a week ago Friday was a 'killer,' as QB Jack Plummer found TE Payne Durham for what appeared to be a go-ahead TD with 52 seconds left but an offensive pass interference call negated the play. I won with Minnesota in that one and let me tell you, "There was NO pass interference!" As for Rutgers, Greg Schiano's 'homecoming' to East Rutherford began with a 'BANG,' as Rutgers snapped a 21-game Big Ten losing streak back on Oct 24 by beating Michigan State 38-27 in East Lansing as a 9 1/2-point underdog in Schiano's first game back as the Scarlet Knights' coach. However, FOUR losses in a row have followed, including 48-42 to Michigan in THREE overtimes last Saturday!

Schiano turned the longtime cellar dweller of the old Big East Conference into a contender during his first tenure there, most notably winning 11 games in 2006 as Rutgers finished 12th in the final AP poll that season. However, turning things around in the Big Ten may just be "a bridge too far!" QB Noah Vedral is completing 64.2% for 1,104 yards but has as many INTs as TDs (eight apiece). WR Cruickshank leads with 28 catches but averages a woeful 6.9 YPC, although fellow WR Melton has 27 catches on 16.4 YPC with five TDs. The running game offers little support, as only Pacheco (329 yards on 4.7 YPC with two TDs) has run for more than 100 yards for a team averaging only 127.8 YPG on the ground (3.6 YPC)! The defense needs to improve a lot for Rutgers to compete in the Big Ten, as it has allowed 36.8 PPG so far in 2020, ranking 108th in the nation!

Yes, Purdue lost its last game but QB Jack Plummer finally saw action and he completed 35 of 42 for 367 yards with three TDs (should have had FOUR / see above) and one INT. Even better news was that WR Rondale Moore finally returned. Moore was sensational as a freshman in 2018 (114 catches for 1,258 yards with 21 TDs) and was off to another great start in 2019, when he was lost for the season in Purdue's fourth game. He missed the first three games due to a lower-body injury but celebrated his return last week by catching 15 passes for 116 yards. Fellow WR Bell has been outstanding in Bell's absence and was NO slouch against Minnesota with eight catches for 104 yards with two TDs. He has 39 catches in four games with six TDs. However, Purdue's running game has been 'missing' in 2020, averaging only 79.8 YPG on 3.2 YPC. Purdue's defense is not a dominating unit but the Boilermakers rank 45th in the nation in allowing 26.3 PPG.

I'm not clear on the rules for bowl eligibility this season but Purdue has VERY winnable home games here and vs Nebraska next, before its season-finale at current No. 12 Indiana. Back-to-back wins will get them to 4-2 and then the Boilermakers will play at Indiana for "The Old Oaken Bucket' with revenge from last year's 44-41 home loss in OT. That rivalry began back in 1891 and Purdue has won SEVEN of the last 10. With Plummer and Moore back, who knows? Let's NOT get ahead of ourselves. Lay the points in this one!

This situation sets up well for Boston College as it comes off a bye week, which came on the heels of a tough nationally-televised two-touchdown loss to an elite Notre Dame squad. It's not all that surprising that most bettors have hopped off the Golden Eagles bandwagon, but I look for BC to bounce back in this spot at home against Louisville. The Cardinals are coming off a nationally-televised win last week, but that came at home at the expense of one of the nation's weakest teams in Syracuse. Note that Louisville has yet to win a game on the road this season. I suspect we'll see the Cardinals once again struggle to finish drives with touchdowns and ultimately fall short against the Eagles on Saturday. Take Boston College (8*).

The Boston College Eagles took a 45-31 home loss to Notre Dame two weeks ago. They have failed to cover the spread in back-to-back games, but note that they are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight-up loss.
The Eagles look good to bounce back against a Louisville team that is in a potential letdown spot after shutting out Syracuse in a 30-0 triumph at home last week. The Cardinals are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games as a road underdog and 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 games vs. a team with a winning record.
All in all, this sets up a good spot to back the Eagles with an extra week to prepare home at Chestnut Hill.

*3 Star Free Play Under* The Baylor Bears defense is solid with Dave Aranda as their head coach and good linebackers to lead the way. The Bears offense is a different story. They still have Brewer at quarterback, but he is really missing a lot of the weapons from last year. Baylor has scored 23 points or less in regulation in four of their six games this year.
Kansas State's offense is a mess right now. Their offensive line is shorthanded and the running game hasn't been working. The Wildcats have virtually no passing game with Howard at quarterback. They put up a goose egg last week against Iowa State.
The weather here helps the under as well. Rain chances are at 80% during the game with winds of 12 to 15 mph. That can make two teams who are already conservative run the ball even more. Expect a lot of running clock.
