Looks strong for the conditions of this race today, showing solid figures in short races as of late. HQH PLATINUM FIRE - Look for a solid effort with the class drop. She has been running solidly and the Equibase speed figs are among the most respectable in this field. HEZ OUR VALENTINE - Is difficult not to consider based on speed figures which have been very good - 64 avg - of late. Has to be given consideration here if only for the decent speed rating earned in the last outing.

SEEKING A MILE - Have to give this gelding a shot. Ran a strong race last time out within the last 30 days. When a sprinter is back in a race less than 10 days after his last outing, it generally means he's fit. You have to like that most recent race speed fig, 72, which is the best most recent race speed figure of this group. BLACKTIEANDTUX - Gelding had the second fastest workout of the day prepping for this. Finished outside the top 3 last out at Mahoning Valley Race Cour, but was within five lengths of the winner. Opening at 9/2 makes me think he's got a chance. Should do well in this event. Weight shift of -5 from January 21st race at Mahoning Valley Race Cour.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 OFTEN ENOUGH (ML=3/1), #4 LUNAR HEAT (ML=4/1), #1A SHOW SLIDING HOME (ML=9/2),

OFTEN ENOUGH - This animal doesn't have a champion's spirit. Time-and-again finishes in the place or show spot. Will probably be stranded with much too much to do down the homestretch. LUNAR HEAT - I can't play this perpetual non-winner. Gets the task done once in a while. No favorable outcomes for this pony in a short distance contest over the last couple months tells me that this gelding is in a difficult spot improbable that the rating he garnered on January 29th will be good enough in this affair. SHOW SLIDING HOME - In this type of situation, this steed's inability to close any ground in the last affair is a troubling signal. The Brain always warns me to keep away from horses in sprint contests that haven't finished in the money in sprint affairs of late. When looking at today's class rating, he will have to notch a better speed fig than last race out to compete in this dirt sprint.

I really like sprinters that make a quick turnaround. Popular handicapping angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. Should run a big one here. A repeat of that most recent race on Feb 8th where she notched a speed figure of 64 looks strong enough to score in this race.

SHE GOT AWAY - Recent deteriorating Equibase speed figures of 68/55/52 give an indication that this horse may be going off form. This mare earned a speed fig in her last event which likely isn't good enough in today's event. GATHAN'S GIRL - This entrant likes to finish in the money, but doesn't usually win. Leave out of the top spot. Finished third in her most recent race with a somewhat easily forgotten speed fig. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this bunch. CALL YOUR BLUFF - Difficult to bet on this steed in today's event. Make her show you something in a sprint event before you play her in a race of 5 1/2 furlongs. Difficult to put your cash on the win end of any animal that finishes second and third as often as this participant does.

I give the nod to LUNAR HEAT here. He has been running admirably and the speed figures are among the most competitive in this field. Recently Murillorodrigu has provided players with a quite good winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Looks strong against this field and ought to be one of the leaders. SEEKING A MILE - Will almost certainly come out solid - I have liked the way this gelding has moved rapidly to the front end recently. The rapid return to the track points to a reliable effort today. BLACKTIEANDTUX - With a decent 69 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this contest. Johnson has a strong win percent with horses racing in dirt sprint races.

Mahoning Valley - Race #4

#1 Blacktieandtux	Class riser was a solid 4th in a very fast race for the level and had been facing better prior to that, so while he may get overlooked here he's got every right to run huge; upset special.
#3 Often Enough	Dangerous sort was in a big too tough last time, so he'll appreciate heading back into the claiming ranks, and a repeat of that N3L win two-back would make him tough; huge chance.
#5 Seeking a Mile	ML favorite was up in time to beat lesser and now doubles in claiming price and meets tons better, so if he's anywhere near this 5-2 price he'd be a big underlay; making him prove it.
Race Summary	That 9-2 ML on the pick seems very fair, and his form matches up nicely here, even if he's been getting beat up of late, so play him in all the slots, and especially the exotics as well, since he's going to offer plenty of value, and neither the 3 or especially the 5 are any great shakes.

Mahoning Valley - Race #6

#4 Alycar Flash	Potential Lone F was a good 2nd in his first start at the level, owns a huge tactical edge on his main rival, and may not even be favored; love his chances here.
#2 Got Grit	The chalk has been running against better and with bigger figures than the pick too, but his lack of early speed is going to be a big issue here; runs out of room.
#3 Beautiful Game	Tricky read was just 3rd behind the pick for Zielinski and now goes off the Spiess claim (0-for-3), which means his form might regress today; underneath, if at all.
Race Summary	Pace makes the race and there's just none here from keeping the 4 from making the point and bettering his position from there, so play him aggressively to win and place, while getting some added value by singling him in the Pk4 as well, since the 2 will take a ton of play, and even the 3 will too, which means a win by the pick could play longer than his tote odds indicate.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7

#3 Lightning Miss	Stretch runner is the most experienced member of the field and could get an inside speed duel to rally into, while facing a favorite who could be going the wrong way; look out.
#2 Legitimacy	Expected outside presser woke up in her last against better, did well to draw outside the chalk and inside speed, and will certainly get first run on the pick; looms might large.
#1 Blessingsofliberty	The chalk and gal to catch didn't run an inch last time on the MSW drop and now goes from Radosevich to Faulkner, which says her form is damaged and hard to trust; not seeing it.
Race Summary	That 7-2 ML would be a big overlay on the 3, as she showed last time she's back on form and might be capable of getting back to her better races, which would beat these, not to mention the race flow looks to her liking as well, so play her aggressively to win and place, and make sure to use her number in the Pk4 as well, since she looks poised to deliver a long overdue breakthrough win here.

#1 Yha Yha	Worth a small look at a price after that useful run in the turf debut last out. The huge price is long gone today, but he wasn't too far off the likely heavy chalk when they met last out.
#6 Double One Shot	Couldn't kick on with the winner last out, but he finished a couple lengths in front of the top choice that day. Reliable performer likely graduates here, but the price will br prohibitive.
#4 Despotic	Has shown a touch of interest in the first two tries, and the pedigree suggests the move to the turf shouldn't hurt the cause.
Race Summary	Yha Yha should offer a nice number in this spot despite taking nicely to the grass last out, and I'll give him a chance to back that run up today.

Turf Paradise - Race #5

#1 Mr. Lovejoy	Has been in a bit deep with this kind in the past, but his recent form is pretty solid, and he can flash some pace from the fence. There's a chance he won't take a TON of pressure early.
#9 Paynes Prairie	Dropper owns some back races from last year that would likely make short work of this group, but he might get a bit overbet on the drop after a really flat run last out.
#5 Jazzie Cat	Guessing the comeback run answered the question of whether he'd ever get back to the 2016 form, but he did show some chasing pace off the long layoff that day before giving way, and the price will get much better this time around.
Race Summary	Mr. Lovejoy brings solid recent form to this, and he's likely to try to make a break for it from the inside.
