The Florida International Golden Panthers are one of my favorite teams in college basketball. They returned almost everyone from last year’s 20-win team and are off to a 13-6 start this season. They play at the 12th-fastest pace in the country and apply constant pressure defensively.
I have the Golden Panthers power rated as the better team here, so getting 5 points is a nice value. They’re up against an Old Dominion team that is just 7-12 on the season. And while the Monarchs have played the tougher schedule, they should not be favored this heavily tonight.
It’s really hard to find many good wins on Old Dominion’s schedule. Their seven victories have come against St. Joe’s, Loyola-MD, Northeastern, MD-East Shore, Middle Tennessee, UAB and Charlotte. Five of those seven wins came by 10 points or fewer, too.
FIU is 7-0 ATS in its last seven road games off two consecutive home wins by 10 points or more. The Golden Panthers are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 when playing against a bad team that wins 20% to 40% of their games. The Monarchs are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games as a favorite. Bet Florida International Thursday.

Cleveland is riding a five game losing streak and showed no effort last time out against the Knicks, losing in embarrassing fashion by 20. We look for the host to come out with a fire tonight as the Cavaliers get back into the win column.

On Thursday night at the Tudor Fieldhouse at 8pm ET the UTEP Miners 11-8 (8-8 ATS) take on the Rice Owls 9-11 (8-10 ATS) in college basketball action. UTEP is currently a -2.5pt favorite, and the Over/Under is set at 137. Last game out Rice lost by 20 to North Texas, as for UTEP last game out they lost 86-70 to UTSA.
Something has to budge here on Thursday night. The Miners have lost 5 of their last 7, the Owls have lost 7 of their last 8. The Owls average 72PPG, and the Miners average 68PPG. UTEP has lost its last six road games, scoring 61PPG, while allowing 69PPG. The Miners have scored 68PPG across six conference games, when they score 62 Rice is 9-4 this year!
Betting trends to consider. UTEP are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games, are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against Rice, are 0-19 SU in their last 19 games on the road, and lastly UTEP is 2-10 SU in their last 12 games against an opponent in Conf-USA. Head to head the underdog is 12-2 ATS in the last 14 meetings.
Rice has won twice in their last three games vs. UTEP so I'm grabbing the points with the home side on Thursday night, the home crowd pushes them over the finish line. They're a young team, and they'll get up for this home game, against a team they've had some success against.
Lay your money on Rice +3. They'll score 66 and squeak out a W.

I'll take my chances here with the Utes as a home dog against the Huskies. This just feels like the perfect spot to jump on Utah, who no one would have thought would be sitting last in the Pac-12 after they knocked off Kentucky a little over a month ago.
Thing is the Utes 1-4 start isn't all that shocking, as they were dealt an absolutely brutal schedule to start out conference play. After defeating Oregon State at home by 12 they had a tough 5-point loss at home to Oregon on just 1 day of rest. They then had to play 3 straight road games against the likes of Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State.
The perception simply couldn't be much worse, when in reality the best case was probably 2-3 during that stretch. Either way, this is do or die for the Utes and I like their chances against a struggling Washington team that has lost 5 of their last 7. Huskies have lost both Pac-12 road games and are still dealing with the loss of point guard Quade Green.
Utes are 16-5 ATS last 21 at home after failing to cover in 3 straight games, 16-6 ATS last 22 at home after playing 4 straight games as a dog and 12-3 ATS last 15 at home off 2 straight losses by 10 or more. Give me Utah +1!
