Jack’s Free Pick Tuesday: San Francisco Giants -118
The San Francisco Giants should be playing inspired ball at home tonight for starter Johnny Cueto. He will make his 2019 debut tonight while returning from a 13-month absence due to Tommy John surgery.
Cueto has worked very hard to get back in shape, losing nearly 25 pounds and will unveil his new trimmed look tonight. He went 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA in nine starts last season. Cueto owns the Pirates, going 20-4 with a 2.19 ERA in 30 career starts against them.
Mitch Keller appears to be a big time bust thus far in the big leagues. He is one of the Pirates’ top prospects. Keller is 1-3 with an 8.18 ERA and 1.879 WHIP in eight starts this season, including 1-3 with an 11.95 ERA and 2.410 WHIP in five road starts.
The Pirates are 6-13 in their last 19 games following a win. The Giants are 23-8 in Cueto’s last 31 stats vs. a team with a losing record. Look for San Francisco to win this game for Cueto tonight. Bet the Giants Tuesday.

The Reds opened as a -138 road favorite with an over / under of 9.5, but now we see the line hovering around -124. The public is liking the M’s in this one and I do too, just not sure if I love them enough to bet them outright.
On the mound we get Trevor Bauer vs. Justus Sheffield. Bauer is 10-12 with a 4.60 ERA, and Sheffield is 0-1 with a 5.51 ERA after his recent call up from AA. He was acquired in the trade that sent Paxton to the Yankees, and though he wasn’t a world beater in his first three outings he never looked out of place with the big club either, and last game out he threw a stellar five innings at Wrigley Field in 5 innings of work he allowed 5 hits and had 7 strikeouts.
We all know about Bauer and the year he’s having and it hasn’t gotten much better in the other Ohio ballpark. He now has an 8.23 ERA in seven starts since joining the Reds at the deadline. He was fortunate to get a no-decision against the Phillies last game out after giving up four runs over five innings.
Some trends to consider. The Reds are 1-4 in their last 5 road games, and are 1-10 in their last 11 games following an off day, plus they're 0-4 in Bauers last 4 road starts. Head to head the Reds are 1-10 in the last 11 vs. the Mariners, and 0-5 in the last 5 meetings in Seattle. Finally Seattle is 8-1 all time against Cincinnati at home.
Back the Mariners tonight.

The winner of this series still has a shot at the wildcard. The loser is probably finished. Arizona has been cooling off with their offense while the Mets have been hitting the ball well. I like both pitchers tonight. I think this game will have playoff like intensity, Home field advantage means a lot on these spots. Look for the Mets to continue to swing the bats well. Take the Mets.
