NBA best bets: Sunday, 25 March
By Josh Chahal -March 25, 2018
ANOTHER winning day in the NBA (Pacers -3.5) has us back pushing the profits for the month.
Here’s our best bets for the action ahead:
Charlotte Hornets @ Dallas Mavericks
It’s interesting to note that this is the highest points total between these two teams in the last 10 meetings, dating back to 2012.
How we got here is thanks in large to the fact Charlotte managed to put up 140 points in their last games against the Grizzlies.
Aside from that incredible offensive showing neither team has really provided any reason for such an inflated total, especially given what we get from Steve Clifford’s side on the road.
Rick Carlisle publicly stated the need for his team to show more effort and execution on defence after their most recent loss to the Jazz and that will come with extra motivation after seeing the Hornets put in a couple historic offensive performances.
While Dwight Howard returns to the line up in this one, teammate Nic Batum remains out as does reserve centre Cody Zeller.
The Mavs also welcomes back a starter in Dennis Smith Jr as they look to regain healthy bodies in their backcourt. His presence will have an impact on the way this team executes on offence and his willingness to drive into the lane does alleviate some of the three-point production we’ve seen from Dallas recently.
With Howard back in as a rim protector those driving lanes will become increasingly difficult to navigate and we’re expecting quite a few empty possessions throughout as a result.
The key to this number will be the tempo at which the game is played, and given how good coach Carlisle is at adjusting his game plan we’re definitely anticipating a slower tempo as the home side look to take away any momentum being carried over from that Memphis game.
Our projections have this one combining for 208.9 points and feel we’re getting good value on this total number as a result.
