MINNESOTA TWINS (-150)
SEATTLE MARINERS (+100)
LOS ANGELES ANGELS (+125)
OVER 8.5 ATLANTA BRAVES @ WASHINGTON NATIONALS (-110)
PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (+115)
ATLANTA BRAVES (+150)
Tonight's Winner and Rating: 30 Dime Washington Nationals
Line/Total: -1.5, +120 as of 10:15 a.m. eastern.
Analysis: Love the Washington Nationals tonight, as they should have no problem dismantling the Atlanta Braves.
Since every MLB wager on a run line or total auto-lists pitchers, I want you to be sure the two pitchers on your ticket, when making this play, are Tanner Roark and Mike Foltynewicz. If they are not the pitchers of record when making your play, disregard this play.
Let's start with the struggling Foltynewicz, who has lost six straight starts. I know he has improved over his last three starts, since regaining a feel for his changeup and slider, but against a lineup like this, it won't be easy to find any sort of consistency.
Meanwhile, in 17 career starts against the Braves, Roark has a 2.79 ERA - his second best of any divisional opponent, points behind his 2.76 ERA versus the Mets. In two starts this month, he has allowed just four runs over 13 innings, with 16 strikeouts.
My 80 Dime Winner is on the CHICAGO CUBS RUN LINE in their National League showdown with the New York Mets. As of 8 a.m. pacific, I see the number is Chicago -1.5, -130.
My breakdown of this play...
Going to side with the Chicago Cubs on the Run Line in their Thursday night matchup with the New York Mets.
IMPORTANT: As you know every single Run Line play and Total wager will automatically list the scheduled starting pitchers at the time of the wager. Now, here is the thing with this game, I am not concerned with who is pitching for the Mets, but I do want you to double-check your ticket and be sure it includes Chicago starter Jen-Ho Tseng. That said, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be sure you have action even if New York's starter is scratched, by betting the game over again in the event that takes place. If Tseng doesn't go - this is a no-play.
So, Tseng is making his MLB debut tonight, and the oddsmakers obviously feel he is well worth the price, given the number we're seeing. Named the Cubs' Minor League Pitcher of the Year, the right-handed import from Taipei, Taiwan was a combined 13-4 with a 2.54 ERA in 24 starts between Double-A and Triple-A.
His mechanics include a 3/4 arm slot with a deliberate drop and drive delivery. His velocity is exceptional, with arm action that is really quick and with his delivery, creates a nice plane with his upper body. His fastball arrives in the low 90s, he intermingles a wicked curve, and has a strong out pitch in his change.
Tseng is subbing for Mike Montgomery, who goes back to the bullpen. Manager Joe Maddon has been told by his underlings, and everyone at the scouting level that Tseng is well prepared for this surprising move, and is ready for this promotion.
