Nevada sportsbooks hit home run with baseball in April

The beginning of the baseball season brought in $6.4 million to Nevada sportsbooks in April, the 10th highest monthly total for the sport ever, according to the latest revenue report from the Nevada State Gaming Control Board.

Nevada books kicked off the MLB schedule with another successful April, after earning $6.7 million on baseball in April 2012. Overall, the state’s sportsbooks raked in $5.73 million in April, bringing their 2013 total to $41.7 million (January to April).

Another big winner for Nevada sportbooks were sports classified under “other”, which include golf, tennis, boxing, MMA, and auto racing as well as others. Those sports earned books $1.9 million in April, thanks in part to the 2013 Masters. Last year, books won $2.66 million on "other" sports in April.

Books earned just $812,000 on basketball – NBA and NCAAB – due to tickets still being cashed from the NCAA tournament. Football also saw outstanding wagers come in, paying out $3.4 million to NFL and NCAAF bettors in April.

Sportsbooks on the Las Vegas Strip earned $3.4 million on baseball and $1.47 million on “other sports” while losing $158,000 on basketball in April.

Overall, Nevada’s casinos posted a totaling gaming win of $854,293,047 in April 2013, a 0.16 percent decrease from April 2012, when casinos won $855,674,603.
