Scott Spreitzer | NBA Total Sun, 01/27/13 - 9:35 PM
          double-dime bet 813 POR / 814 LAC OVER 191.0 5dimes
Analysis: I'm playing the Over between the Blazers & Clippers on Sunday. The two teams met last night in Portland, and while they're familiar with each other, I believe both will be a little ragged on the defensive end, especially, the short-handed Clippers. Portland enters 14-5 to the Over when playing in the second of back-to-back nights, while the Clippers are 5-0 to the Over the last five times they have played without rest. Add in the fact that the total, as of this release is about where it was for Saturday's contest when both teams came in with fresher legs. The Blazers are in the bottom 1/3 of the NBA in FG percentage defense, allowing opponents to "can" about 46% of their shots and the winner in each of their last five games has scored at least 98 points. Meanwhile, while most might expect the absence of Chris Paul (out indefinitely) to hurt the Clips on the offensive end, they have really been haÇmpered on the "stop end." LAC has allowed 101 or more points to three of their last four opponents. Finally, besides the two situations mentioned earlier, the Blazers are on a 5-1 Over run on the road against teams playing better than .600 basketball at home. And the Clippers are 14-6-1 to the Over in their last 21 at home against teams playing less than .400 road basketball. More of the same. I'm playing the Over between the Blazers & Clippers on Sunday. Thanks! GL! Scott Spreitzer.

            831 Creighton -11.0 (-110) 5dimes vs 832 Southern Ill.
Analysis: I'm laying the points with Creighton on Sunday. The Jays have lost two in a row for the first time this season. The first of the two losses was excusable as they lost in the final minutes at MVC-leading Wichita State. The second loss came against a Drake team the Jays beat by 30 points earlier in January. But then again, multiple Creighton players were suffering pretty badly from the flu-bug, including NCAA Player of the Year candidate Doug McDermott, who battled the flu and scored just 2 points in the second half. McDermott even said he probably should not have played in the second half. But the team is reportedly back to health, rested, and now get "just what the doctor ordered," a bad SIU squad. Creighton has beaten this team by 19 points in each of their last three meetings, including an 88-69 win in Carbondale last season. The Salukis, a far cry fro‰m their NCAA Big Dance years, are hamstrung even further by the loss of Jeff Early (12.7 ppg & 7.5 rpg), who's serving a suspension and expected to miss this game. Then again, even if Early played, I'd still lay it with the Jays. Creighton is on a 13-4 ATS run off a SU loss. They're on a 9-0 SU series run against SIU, covering five in a row. And they're 7-0 ATS in their last seven meetings in Carbondale. SIU enters on a 1-5-1 ATS slide at home. I'm laying the points with Creighton, my Road Warrior on Sunday. Thanks! GL! Scott Spreitzer.

4-STAR Oklahoma City -2.5 over LA LAKERS - One game did not solve all of the Lakers problems. In this game it's not just that LA is struggling but that Oklahoma City is a bad matchup for them in general. In the spotlight, look for the Thunder to bury them yet again.
Oklahoma City enters off a 105-95 win in Sacramento. They overcame 8-of-15 shooting on threes from the Kings. The Thunder are 11-0 ATS (7.0 ppg) since March 13, 2011 with at most one day of rest after a game in which their opponent shot at least ten three-pointers and made at least half of them.
OKC had 37 baskets in that game and 27 of those were assisted. The Thunder are 9-0 ATS (8.1 ppg) since March 07, 2010 as a road favorite after a game in which the percentage of their baskets that were assisted was at least ten percentage points higher than their season-to-date average.
LA is coming off a 102-84 win. They allowed 16.5 points less than expected in that win. The Lakers are 0-6 ATS (-10.4 ppg) since March 30, 2007 as a dog when their DPA was minus 15 points or less in their previous game.
They did that despite going 7-of-13 from the field. The Lakers are 0-6 ATS (-7.2 ppg) since December 04, 2002 as a dog after a game at home in which they shot less than 60% from the free-throw line.
It was a unique game from Kobe Friday. He had just 14 points on just 10 shots as Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace each had 17 points. The Lakers are 0-9 ATS (-10.6 ppg) since March 25, 2012 after a win in which Kobe Bryant was not the Lakers' high scorer.
Kobe did have 14 assists in that win as well. The Lakers are 0-5 ATS (-5.2 ppg) since March 21, 2010 after a win in which Kobe Bryant had at least 10 assists.
SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: Oklahoma City 112, LA LAKERS 101
4-STAR New Orleans and Memphis Under 179 - At its heart, New Orleans is a low scoring defensive team. Memphis meanwhile has been dominating by doing just that lately. Look for a strong defensive game from both sides here.
Memphis is coming a 101-77 win over Brooklyn Friday. Amazingly they did that despite going just 3-of-8 from the foul line. The Grizzlies are 0-8 OU (-14.2 ppg) since March 25, 2000 at home with at least one day of rest after a win in which they shot less than 60% from the free-throw line.
Memphis was led by Marc Gaasol with 20 points as Zach Randolph had 12. The Grizzlies are 0-8 OU (-13.5 ppg) since November 19, 2012 at home after a win in which Zach Randolph was not the Grizzlies' high scorer.
Mike Conley had a nice game as well with 14 points playing just 22 minutes. The Grizzlies are 0-9 OU (-13.6 ppg) since March 24, 2008 at home after a win at home in which Mike Conley played fewer than 30 minutes.
Tony Allen went 3-of-7 in 21 minutes at the other starting guard spot. The Grizzlies are 0-8 OU (-16.8 ppg) since November 26, 2012 at home after a win in which Tony Allen took fewer than 10 shots.
New Orleans is coming off a 100-82 loss against Houston Friday. The Rockets went 11-of-21 on threes in that game. The Hornets are 0-6 OU (-14.8 ppg) since April 25, 2008 as a road dog with at least one day of rest after a game at home in which their opponent shot at least ten three-pointers and made at least half of them.
Point guard Greivis Vasquez struggled in that game, going 1-of-6 with just two points. The Hornets are 0-5 OU (-11.0 ppg) since January 19, 2012 on the road after a loss in which Greivis Vasquez shot worse than 33% from the field.
When these teams met in December, Memphis won 96-89. Vasquez went just 2-of-6 in that game. The Hornets are 0-9 OU (-12.9 ppg) since March 10, 2012 after losing the previous matchup at home in which Greivis Vasquez took fewer than 10 shots.
On the other side, Mike Conley went just 2-of-11 with seven points in the win. The Grizzlies are 0-10 OU (-10.1 ppg) since January 10, 2011 as a favorite after winning the previous matchup in which Mike Conley scored fewer than 10 points. SPORTSBOOK BREAKERS PREDICTION: MEMPHIS 86, New Orleans 82

                    812 DAL -7.0(-110) BetOnline vs 811 PHO double-dime bet

Analysis: The Suns have the second-worst record in the Western Conference. The Suns surrender nearly 100 points a game and rank seco Ðnd from the bottom in defensive field goal percentage and defending against 3-pointers. Their offense isn't nearly good enough to compensate for their defensive weaknesses.

The Suns need a supreme effort to stay competitive. They recently got a boost winning their first two games under new coach Lindsey Hunter. Phoenix played hard last night on the road against San Antonio, too, but fell 108-99. Now the Suns, in their fourth game under Hunter, have to play again on the road against a Dallas team that is playing better and has covered nine of the last 10 times in this series.

This is the Suns' fourth game in five days. The Suns don't have the talent, depth and the incentive to produce an "A" game in this matchup.

The Mavericks have stepped up their game. They have covered seven of their last eight. The Mavericks have won five of their last seven with their only defeats during their past seven games coming to the Spurs and Thunder in overtime. After this game, the Mavericks go on the road for games against the Trail Blazers, Warriors, Suns and Thunder.

Analysis: Despite a horrible 2-15 mark in their last 17 games, the Magic still are in playoff contention being 5 1/2 games behind free-falling Boston.

The Magic have a lot of youth and a first-year coach. But their chemistry has remained good. Orlando stuck toge Ðther and nearly beat much-improved Toronto in its last game this past Thursday coming from 11 points down before losing, 97-95. The Magic played one of their better defensive quarters holding the Raptors to 22 points in the fourth quarter.

This is a key game for Orlando. Not only do the Magic have recent revenge as Detroit beat them, 105-90, this past Tuesday in Detroit. But the Magic go on the road for five games starting on Monday following this matchup.

Orlando ranks last in forcing turnovers. However, this is negated by the Pistons ranking last in turning the ball over. Detroit has lost 16 of its 20 road games. This is the Pistons' third and final game on their three-game road swing.

3-Unit Play. #819 Take Virginia Tech +11.5 over Clemson (Sunday @ 1 pm est)This is too many points for a poor offensive Clemson team to be laying. The Tigers are scoring just 63 points per game, and with the Hokies at about ten more per contest, I think it will be hard for the home team to pull away here. Plus, Virginia Tech has not been as poor on the road as their numbers are suggesting. The Hokies are 7-3 ATS in their last ten away from Blacksburg, while the underdog has gone 10-3 ATS in the last 13 between these two. I just don't see eleven or more points separating these two ACC schools, and I am willing to grab the number and Virginia Tech to come through as a value pick at Clemson.

Game: Miami at Boston (1:00 PM Eastern)
                            Pick: Miami -170 (moneyline)
So who do you trust, the struggling and dysfunctional Celtics or the defending champs? Boston has a losing record, struggling with injuries and disappointing stretches from key rotation players. Recent frustrations have led coach Doc Rivers to threaten, through the media this week, that players would be traded if their effort doesn't improve. They haven't, losing to the lowly Cavs last week and failing to win a showdown game at home Thursday against the rival Knicks. The Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last five games vs. a team with a losing record and have so many weapons, fifth in the NBA in point scored and 13th in points allowed. Ray Allen had 19 points in 31 minutes the last time they played, a 120-107 Miami win. He's shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from 3-point range this season -- both above his career averages, a good fit with Miami. The Heat beat Boston by 13 points in late October and Boston is just 8-16 straight-up the past two seasons revenging a double-digit loss. Under Doc Rivers this team is 48-65 straight-up in that situation overall. In addition, Boston has no one to defense against LeBron, the best player in the game. Play the Miami Heat on the moneyline.
