Izzo loses his normal post season coaching edge to the experienced, savvy Pitino. Simply no surprise that his Cards are playing with momentum as they enter on a 6-0 SU, 5-1 ATS run in post season play since dropping back-to-back regular season ending games to Syracuse and South Florida. And can't ignore the fact that the Cards are 7-2 ATS as underdog. Their late season magic has been fueled by a defense that has seen them allow 62 or less points in 8 of the last 10 games. That defense, which has averaged 9 steals per game this season, is what has fueled an offense that clearly underperforms if forced to play in the half court. That is exactly where Izzo will look to put this game. The Spartans counter with their own post season momentum of 5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS after a season ending loss to Ohio State. Their +8 rebound margin will be a meaningful edge in half court sets with upper classmen Nix, Payne and Green controlling the paint against underclassmen Behanon and Dieng. Not eager to fade Pitino as underdog but the Spartans are better in the half court and should control the boards.
