    I do know that.

I am not 100% in line with Carl Sagan's philosophical tendencies, though. He was basically in the "if it can't be tested, replicated, and quantified, then it doesn't exist" camp and that's not me.

Yeah, I've read a lot of Sagan's nonfiction, and I doubt that you would find much common ground with him.

I haven't read Contact, but if even the basic storyline is like the movie, I can't even believe that he actually wrote it.

Well, Sagan was the force behind some fairly speculative stuff. He was active in SETI and tended to support the idea that there could be a lot of life out there. I haven't read Contact, but I think it was his attempt to write a book around the concept: "OK, if we did make extraterrestrial contact, what might it actually be like."

He was careful to get the science at least plausible. I know he consulted with Kip Thorne and some other gravitation physicists on the wormhole stuff.

I'm more speaking of the fact that, at least in the movie, there's the theme that sometimes faith trumps those things that you can see and measure.

This is a running theme throughout the film and, at the end, all visual evidence suggests that nothing happened and Ellie didn't go anywhere . . . but her personal experience was indicative of a far different reality.

                      Interesting development.

He's a pretty thick dude. I think it will be a hard cut for him. (And yes, I know he used to fight at featherweight like a millenium ago.)

I went to traffic court today, this is what happened while I was there:

A 22-year-old pregnant woman died after hitting her head during a fight at Philadelphia Traffic Court Monday, sources confirmed.
The victim was with her current boyfriend when they had some sort of altercation with an ex-boyfriend and possibly some of his friends inside the courthouse at 800 Spring Garden St., sources said.
She was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. at Hahnemann Hospital after the altercation.
A 22-year-old man believed to be the ex was arrested, said sources.
Check back for more details as we get them.

Philly doesn't have shit on Gary, IN. I went to criminal court when I first got out of school there, the judges and lawyers are all behind bulletproof glass... and there is writing and stuff all over the glass. It was a serious wtf moment, did someone just whip out a marker and start tagging right in front of the court? I will never go back to Gary for any reason.
