Can't do screens because of the way the windows open. One opens outward.

And I can't close then when I leave because it gets all hot and shit in here, especially in the summer. I don't have an air conditioner.

It's the smell they don't like. Spray the shit on the windowsill and the cat won't want to come in. Another alternative is a chicken wire enclosure around the outside of the window which keeps cats out and allows for the breeze to still come through.
