It's really simple. There are 2 community hands. One is called player, the other is called banker. You pick which one you think will win (or you can pick a tie). This is the only decision you make.

After that, the dealer deals the cards and they add them up and more cards are dealt depending on what is in the hand, but it doesn't matter because it's all predetermined.

Ironically, it's a game that can fuck the casino up since a lot of high-rollers (azns) play it. The house advantage is solid, but it's pretty low (1.2%) so extremely high betting with some volatility can provide big winnings sometimes.

Is there anything you can do (like counting cards) that can turn the game into an advantage for you?

Not that I'm aware of. Obviously there are some people who claim they can, but the math doesn't support it and the overall consensus is no.

What you'll always see is everyone with pads and pencils. There's a display like in Roulette that shows what the last winners were and people look for patterns, but it's all hocus-pocus.

As far as betting systems go, I agree that some are better than others. It's basically just bankroll management, which always helps. Personally, I like the Iron Cross strategy in craps. It actually has worse odds than simply paying pass w/odds and 6/8, but goddamn is it fun. You basically get paid on everything but 7 and get tons of action.

Yeah, I got some strategies I use for roulette sometimes where, on a good night, you can pretty consistently get SOME sort of return on most spins. I've made money quickly using it. But then there are times where the ball just lands everywhere else and you lose quickly, too.

I have that roulette book that I linked to yesterday and it's got an interesting chapter on how to modify certain classic betting systems to improve your chances of success.

I've seen casinos sometime have 500x odds on craps .Its the best I've seen .Is that any good and what does it even mean?

I've seen casinos sometime have 500x odds on craps .Its the best I've seen .Is that any good and what does it even mean?

It means you can take odds up to 500x your pass line bet. I'm not sure how much you know about craps, but 'taking odds' is the best bet in the casino. There is zero house advantage. The catch is it can only be taken if you're already on the pass line and after the point has been established. Therefore it essentially works to lower the HA on the initial pass line bet (1.41%).

So if you put take out single odds (same bet as passline bet), the HA goes from 1.41% down to 0.85%. If you take double odds, (double the passline bet), then it goes down to 0.61%. The more odds you can put down, the lower the house advantage. At 10x odds, it's down to 0.18%. Most tables I've seen only offer up to 10x odds.

500x odds sounds badass. The house advantage has got to be so small it's essentially nonexistant. Of course you have to have a huge bankroll for that, considering the minimum passline bet is usually $5, and probably more in Vegas where that's offered.
