2012 Off topic thread(basketball,movies,etc whatever)
Somebody play me for $5 in the dominoes $ room in the skill games section of 5 dimes. I found this last night and I was beating guys for free but nobody is ever in the money room.
I just see the people in China-town in the movies playing dominoes. I actually know how to play, but it is not something I am going to be betting money on. If you want to play chess for money or poker for money, those are really the only things I will play for money H2H. Poker, I will play anyone. Chess, only if you suck. Chess is one of those games where the better player pretty much always wins.
Anyone ever play poker on BookMaker? I'm wondering how weak the tables are there.
I played once or twice, they are not that soft from what I recall. I play occasionally on 5d... the biggest thing is the lack of players. I remember the good old days on Party Poker and Poker Stars, when there would hundreds of full tables. The biggest issue is the stakes. You will find soft tables at lower stakes pretty much everywhere, especially at the casino.
We are white poopoo, we don't know how to play dominoes.
or mah jong.
My understanding is that a lot of old white ladies play mahjong. Or used to.

I don't know really how to play poker.
I have an understanding of Texas Hold 'Em and have played online but my problem is that I don't know the mechanics of playing at a table. I tried it once and I was betting when it wasn't my turn and folding hands when I didn't really need to. Online it pretty much only lets you do shit when you're supposed to. I need to find someone who can sit down and show me the ropes. And then read the book I bought on low-limit Hold 'Em.

That's true.
Interesting (to me) story: When I was about 15 I got interested in chess. But I really sucked. Everyone always beat me. My dad. My brother. And pretty much anyone else that I played.
Then I bought a copy of "Chess for Dummies" and a little pocket chess computer and studied and played regularly for a couple of months. Then I kicked my dad's and my brother's ass. And my girlfriend's dad's ass (which I think actually turned him against me a little bit).
At this point I can beat most street people who just have played a little and know how the pieces move and shit. But I always get fucked up anytime I try to play on Yahoo.

Playing online is the same as playing at a real table. The button moves around the table, just like online. The only thing that is different is that some places don't let you say certain things. I have been scolded by the dealer several times for shit talking or announcing my hand or guessing at the other guy's out loud when other players are still in the hand.

That was me too. I didn't get good until I started playing online. I still play some, usually on MSN though, but I occasionally play on Yahoo. I got up to neary 2000 at one point, but my usual rating is around 1800 or 1850. So, pretty terrible by actual chess player standards, but almost unbeatable by someone who hasn't studied a lot.
I know it's the same as far as how the game goes, but online it only lets you at when its your turn and all that shit. I dunno. I just found sitting at an actual table a lot more confusing and it's something that requires it's own sort of practice.
I could liken it to blackjack. Online you just click a button that says "Deal" or whatever. But in a casino you have to understand certain etiquette or when to do certain things and which hand gestures to make, etc.

I can't remember what my rating was, but it wasn't very good at all. I would occasionally win a game, but not often.
Sometimes I think about getting really serious about it, but in a way I feel like if I can't reach Master level then what's the point? And I have researched what it takes to reach that level. Memorizing hoardes of openings and all that shit. Fuck that.
That's actually one thing that annoys me about chess. Getting REALLY good is reliant too much upon memorization rather than dynamic, creative skills.

It is. It is just like anything else. But I never really studied a lot of openings or anything, I just learned them through trial and error. I still don't know the nomenclature, but I know what to do based on most openings. I really think you can learn all the same stuff through trial and error, but it will probably take a lot longer than just being taught and memorizing it.

I don't know. It seems pretty self explanatory to me. Also, just ask... it is an advantage to you if you actually know how to play poker, but don't know that tap means check. People will assume you know nothing or that you are faking, either way, it is good for you. I really don't think there is much to it though... when it comes around to you, tap is check, toss cards to fold, or bet by tossing out the chips. In some cases you may not know the right multiple you have to bet... like if the blind is 5, you can't bet 4. but it should be something you can pick up by just watching it go around a few times. The main issue I have with live play is that it is som slow compared to online play.
