Gulfstream Park – 2nd race: 3-Gentle Breeze (9/5). Post time: 1:21 ET

Trainer Ralph Nicks boasts a superior record with first time starters (23%, powerful ROI) and appears set to add to his totals in this maiden $25,000 claiming sprint over five furlongs on the main track. The son of Cajun Breeze has looked like a win-early type in a series of morning team drills when showing good speed without really being asked for his best, and in a race in which the known element doesn’t impress and the other debut runners apparently haven’t shown much, this juvenile colt looks cranked up to wire the field. At 9/5 on the morning line, he’s a win play and rolling exotic single.

Woodbine – 7th race: 3-Up and Down (5/2). Post time: 4:28 ET

We’ve always been partial to the route-to-sprint angle and this lightly raced sophomore filly contains the classic pattern in this year’s edition of the Alywow Stakes. A closing fourth in a maiden turf dash at Saratoga in her only previous one turn event, the daughter of Creative Cause most recently loomed a strong threat but lost her punch late when fourth in the Hilltop Stakes over a distance of ground at Pimlico last month. Today, she faces an easier group while turning back to an extended sprint. The Chad Brown-trained filly projects to settle in mid-pack and then blast home under the meeting’s far-and-away leading jockey Kazushi Kimora, and at 5/2 on the morning line she’ll offer good wagering value in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Ellis Park – 9th race: 7-Sassy Walker (5-1). Post time: 3:55 CT

She has burned money in her first two starts as a beaten favorite, so this daughter of Munnings may be a hard one to trust, but we suspect the talent is there, and in her first try on grass we’re willing to give her one more chance at what should be a decent price. The Phil D’Amato-trained sophomore continues to train like a filly with plenty of speed and ability, and with a bullet main track breeze at Churchill Downs just seven days ago (5f, 1:00.2b, fastest of 26) we’re hoping she can put it all together in this abbreviated maiden sprint that came up softer than expected. At 5-1 on the morning line, she offers a strong win gamble and an enticing single in rolling exotic play.

Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

Northfield Park has a 15-race card ready to go with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11 (9:40 PM EST)

2-Elliot Moose (4-1)-Not going to knock the drive by Merriman in the last start but it's fair to say he may rethink the game plan. Was parked past the quarter, forced his way into the pocket and then needed to go 3 wide down the lane and lost by a nose. Doesn't have big gate speed to get the top and will probably come off cover in a race with a few fast starters.
3-Caviart Eden (3-1)-Makes its Nfld debut, is fast and knows how to win. Was claimed for $55k by Holton who trains. So, would think the turns aren't going to be an issue and may have landed in a spot to capture a win.
5-Bettor Than Spring (5-1)-Gets some post relief and has been in sharp form. Has enough gate speed to get the jump on others and can be 1st or 2nd around the opening turn.
6-Camouflage Money (12-1)-Won last coming off cover versus this kind, and the same thing could happen again as the fractions should be quick. Willing to use at this price instead of #7 the 9/5 program chalk, and will hope Lems provides the right trip.

Race 12 (10:02 PM EST)

1-Disclosure (6/5)-Wrenn should get away with a close-up seat and make an early move to get the top. Hasn't raced since 6-10, is coming off a sick scratch and makes its Northfield debut. Trixton mare has faced some tough foes and should relish the company.
6-Manofmanymuscles (3-1)-Raced well in the first 2 starts since joining the Rhoades barn and Merriman sticks. Should be forwardly placed and with a sharp steer it could be picture time.

Race 13 (10:24 PM EST)

1-Tick's A Yankin (7/2)-Loses Meriman to #8 but Myers has the speed to protect the rail and try to wire the field. Looks like a main player.
3-Slater (7-1)-This is 2nd time Lasix, and my guess is the 5-year-old could land in the pocket. Should offer a solid price and looks like a trip-out candidate.
8-Speedy Dominic A (4-1)-Here's my take, Dominic drops to a good spot to compete but probably can't wire this field. This veteran came off cover to win on 5-14 and the fractions should be lively here. The best plan might be to duck early and rally late.

Race 14 (10:46 PM EST)

1-Elver Hanover (2-1)-Might not be as fast off the gate as the one below but has enough speed to be no worse than in the pocket. This looks like a 2-horse race between these 2 veterans and this one has more back class. Could be an opportunity to post the 1st win this year.
2-Lyons Friends (5/2)-Drew off by >6 lengths versus easier in the 2nd race for the Holzman barn. It should be an interesting start and Davis Jr could look to land on the point when the wings fold. If that is the case the 6-year-old could be difficult to catch.

Hawthorne - Race #3

#7 Madelyn Belle	She rallied just a touch too late in the debut when sent to post at even money, and anything like that one would probably make her tough to handle with that experience under her belt. Probably a handful today.
#3 Napabit	She might end up being just a pace player while trying the local company for the first time, but she might offer a decent price while bringing downstate form with her. For a piece?
#1 Loveyoulikecrazy	She has run a few races that would keep her in the mix for a piece, and she might be able to tuck in just behind the early pace players to avoid having to hustle too much from the fence.
Race Summary	Madelyn Belle will likely get bet here, but I think she's a pretty logical one to work around in the early multi-race plays. She handled Loveyoulikecrazy in that last one and has more upside in just this second start.

Hawthorne - Race #5

#6 Out of Deductions	He absolutely drilled a field to graduate in his local debut last time out, and the no-threat runner-up that day was back to win a few weeks later. He's not meeting the deepest stakes field we're ever going to see, and the runners from this female family can turn out to be pretty nice.
#5 Act a Fool	He looks like the one to beat with some pace to put to use while making his turf debut, as his local form this year has been very impressive, and he's going to be tough here if he handles the new footing.
#1 Really Good	He has to be considered at least on class, as he is a Grade II-placed runner who tried the Breeders' Cup last season, but his two race so far this year have both been very forgettable. Tough call, but I'm not overly inspired.
Race Summary	Out of Deductions still feels like he has some upside with just two starts under his belt, and he hammered a maiden bunch in his first trip over the turf course. He obviously likes it here, so let's see if he can elevate his game enough to land this modest stakes spot. Don't think the honest #2 Wolf Hunter is in over his head for a piece despite being winless.

Hawthorne - Race #8

#7 Black Russian	Think he has a little claim on this at a mid-range price, as he's lining up against a few potential pace players and showed some improved form when finishing well late at this level earlier this month. Over the top today?
#2 Mad Dragon	Wouldn't be any surprise to see him roll this group while dropping at second asking, and he turned in a pretty solid effort with some pace in the debut run for more than twice this price. Obvious player and the one to beat.
#1 Uncaptured Dream	He's starting to get a little short on excuses with a bunch of underneath shares on his page with similar, but he's a pretty reliable type who probably runs his race again today. Not impossible, but a likely underlay.
Race Summary	Black Russian has a little appeal from off the pace, as he woke up with an improved running line last out when trying this level, and I think the race shape might be just fair enough to give him a chance to rally past these late.

1st race – (7) Elite Forces makes his debut for Cox and seems ready for a big effort. (6) Macho Villa should respond to running in a claimer. (2) Bourbon Fever could contend off the claim by Davis. (4) Auto Dial is a firster worthy of attention. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-6-7. Doubles: 2-4-6-7 with 1-2-3-12. Pick 3: 2-4-6-7 with 1-2-3-12 with 1-2-4.
2nd race – (1) Luxuriate (A) missed by a head in her debut and should make amends here. (2) Liam’s Message adds blinkers and looks like the one to fear. (12) Shimmering Allure may benefit from her debut and be a factor here. (3) Tambarella seems ready for a solid effort at first asking. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-3-12. 3rd race – (4) Mischievous Rogue seeks a third straight win and is nicely placed here. (2) Let My People Go will be charging strongly in the final furlong. (1) Field Day returns from an 11-month break and will be dangerous if there’s no rust. Betting strategy: 4 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2-4.
6th race – (8) Quality Chic should appreciate the return to dirt and post a maiden win. (9) Unload took a nice step forward in his second start and should be the main rival. 1^st race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (5) Foxy Cara was bet down from 7-1 to 4-1, had to check at the 3/8ths pole, and was able to finish third. (1) Short Shift debuted on the dirt and finished third and then tried the turf where she went a furlong farther but ran well beaten a length and a half. (3) Big Hazel was second in her first start in February at Aqueduct and then tried the turf twice with poor results. Start four was back on the dirt but the track was muddy. She is projected to be on the lead in this field. (4) Ichiban tried the grass in her most recent race in April and did no running. Her two starts on the dirt were better.
2^nd race [NY, Alw 80000, 1/8 mi TURF] – (1) Collaboration (B/C) took late money from 8-1 to 6-1, crossed the finish line in first, but was disqualified after bumping at the 1/8^th pole. (5) Rheaume won her debut last year and then had four second-place finishes in a row. She will cut back in distance from her first start of 2023 and gets blinkers on. (4) La Conquistadora got a maiden win in her third start on the grass. (2) Sals Dream Girl won in March on the Tapeta at Gulfstream Park and then came back to the turf at Belmont Park to finish fourth after an uncharacteristically bad break from the gate.
4^th race [OC 62k/N1X, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (2) Operation Torch (A) began his career with two fast maiden starts and won the second one at Keeneland. Facing winners for the first time he was very rank, had to check hard, and rushed up the inside to finish fourth. (7) Program Trading was an easy winner of his debut race at Monmouth Park at 3-1 when he sat off the pace. (4) Lachaise won his first start as a juvenile at Saratoga against NY-breds and then was third in the Pilgrim (G3). He was fourth in the Pennine Ridge (G2) after pressing the pace and now changes to the barn of Mike Maker. (5) Scramble finished in the top three in all six starts with three of them last year. He broke his maiden at Gulfstream Park and then was second in a similar spot at Belmont last month.
7^th race [NY, OC 45k/N2X, 7F TURF] – (5) Shinfull (D) was bet down from 8-1 to 5-1 last time in a similar allowance where he was able to improve his position. (8) Moonage Daydream was stakes winner against open company last year in the Steward Manor at the Big A. Last time she was beaten by less than a length in the allowance condition. (3) New Ginya finished in the top three in 8 of her 9 career starts including an allowance win and then a third in her only two races this year. (6) Masterof the Tunes won the first-level allowance last time but last year was second in today’s condition.

I think STAY FANTASTIC is a formidable choice. Strong average Equibase speed figs in dirt route races make this horse a definite contender. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Reyes will almost certainly have this gelding in excellent position to win the contest. Looks very strong to be on or close to the lead at the first call. FAMILY BIZ - He has been running very well and the Equibase speed figs are among the most competitive in this group. Grieve has a formidable 25 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. SHOTGUN RIDER - Is a key contender - given the 77 speed rating from his most recent race.

LITTLE DEMON - Franco and Arriaga perform well when they team up. It's hard to beat a +66 ROI for a jock and trainer. Looks like the lone speed of the race. Should be tough on the front-end. CUPID'S CLAWS - You always have to be on the watch for profit making jock/conditioner duos; we have one right here. I just may give this one a good shot. Should improve off last race where he did run out of the money, but was within five lengths at the finish. DUST DEVIL - I like to wager on this angle, a pony coming back off a solid effort within the last thirty days. MY FRIENDS BEER - Strong return on investment for this jock and handler duo. May have to bet on this race horse in this race. He has been claimed in each of his last two starts. GLORY ROAD - I like a racer that manages to be on the board as often as this gelding. Almost always in the money so don't leave him out of your exotic bets.
