    #2
    Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Presque Isle Downs - Race #6
#2 Empty Envelope She turned in what I'm hoping was a useful, if unspectacular, effort in her local debut last time out, and I'm hoping she has a step forward in her in this third start off the layoff while rising. She's still a question on overall class, but her form has never been better.
#9 Hard to Please She didn't miss by much in that last one when coming north from Tampa, and she's probably in line for another really good trip tracking the pace from the high draw. Wouldn't be surprised to see her handle these.
#6 Treasured Gem She's a good fit with the locals, but I wouldn't want to be here at too short a price with a page that has a lot of pretty modest efforts on it. Tough call.
Race Summary Empty Envelope has some price appeal in here while stepping into a protected special weight spot, and maybe she gets a cozy run of things while saving some ground before rallying.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #7
#7 Sweet Amy Think she's going to get a great run tracking the pace from the outside, and she rises off a really solid comeback win that still leaves her with some upside in the second start back. Lots to like.
#2 Quarterflash She's a pretty reliable finisher, but I worry that she might be a bit overbet and could come along a little too late. Her baseline effort makes her a big player at a shorter price this time around.
#1 Lady in Heels Her form can be inconsistent, and she doesn't run well when she's denied the lead, but I think has at least a small claim on this if she breaks sharply and secures the front end. Not sure anyone else is as committed to the front as she is. Want her on the tickets.
Race Summary Sweet Amy and Lady in Heels have the most appeal in here for me on top, with Quarterflash playing a logical part to come alive late for a share.
Presque Isle Downs - Race #8
#2 Piton He has had a lot of chances -- 28 to be exact -- so I'd want a fair price to land here. That said, he has a little bit of proven finishing form and makes his second start off the bench, and I wonder if he might luck into a really good rallying trip while tighter today.
#4 Governor Atwood Really considered him on top despite having had several chances already, but I worry that the race flow won't flatter him as he meets a decent number of pace and chasing types, and he hasn't been known for passing horses. Wouldn't argue too hard with anyone landing here.
#3 Kenji's Empire He seemed to have found a more reasonable spot last out when trying the local maiden claiming company for the first time, but I have similar concerns here as I do about 'Atwood as far as his style and the race flow go. That worry acknowledged, he might be classy enough speed to run these off their feet.
Race Summary Piton ran a couple races here last year that suggest he might be able to settle off the pace and hope a bunch of cheap pace battles early, and I think he's got a sneaky chance to finally get over the top.

      #3
      Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

      Parx - Race #2
#7 POWWA OF LOVE (4-1) Failed as the favorite in last pair, projects ideal trip, one more chance.
#1 MAZAL EIGHTEEN (5-1) Has speed and the rail, sometimes gets brave on the front end.
#4 YELLOW DRESS (6-1) Three-peat attempt was foiled off similar rest between starts.
Race Summary POWWA OF LOVE weakened in the ‘lead’ role despite a slow pace, but she could sit a good stalking trip at an inflated price off the re-claim. Bet to win and place and play a 1-4-7 exacta box.
      Parx - Race #7
#5 FAST INTENTIONS (9-2) Knows how to win, proven at this distance, moves up on ‘off’ track.
#3 R TENDERONI (9-5) Continues to pile up the checks in lightly-raced season, gets class relief.
#1 BEYOND A MILLION (8-1) Stopped for new barn, remains 3-5 at distance and 6-15 at Parx.
Race Summary FAST INTENTIONS launched a ‘strong rally’ on the inside, angled wide in the stretch and just missed in a blanket finish at 7F. She stretches out of the Dandy re-claim at a distance which she conquered twice earlier this year.
      Parx - Race #10
#9 HOPE FOR GOLD (4-1) Has loyal following, can use his speed well in eighth try at $7,500/n4L level.
#5 MAXIM MOMENT (5-2) Won pair of long sprints going away in his last six starts.
#2 TANKINATOR (5-1) Likely pace setter with alert start, last win was at this distance.
Race Summary HOPE FOR GOLD disappeared in his latest start at this level but he can’t be discounted off his prior three efforts, when he finished second from up-close to the pace. He can attend to a projected moderate pace from a favorable post, so give him the nod on a win and place bet.

            # 8 FREE SPEECH 3/1
            # 1 GOTTAGETITBACK 8/1
FEDERALE should be supported as the bet in here. Will probably go to the lead and may never look back. Is worth thinking about and may be a bet - strong speed figures (88 average) at today's distance and surface lately. FREE SPEECH - Must be given a chance based on the quite good speed fig garnered in the last contest. Has competitive Equibase Class Figures relative to this group - worth a look. GOTTAGETITBACK - With a respectable 76 speed rating last time out, will unquestionably be a factor in this race.

              # 2 GLITTER MOUNTAIN 5/2
              # 6 CRYPTIC CREED 7/2
I've got to go with STRIKING MOON. Has solid Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet for this race. This gelding has a very good win percentage in dirt sprint races. Has been travelling in the most competitive company of the group of horses in this race lately. GLITTER MOUNTAIN - Will almost certainly compete solidly in the pace contest which bodes well with this field. Posted a strong Equibase Speed Figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this contest. CRYPTIC CREED - Is a solid choice - given the 77 Equibase Speed Figure from his most recent race. With a formidable 72 average speed figure at the distance, seems well suited for today's race.

                Parx Racing - Race #7 - Post: 3:26pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $21,000 Class Rating: 67

                Rating:

                #1 BEYOND A MILLION (ML=8/1)
                #5 FAST INTENTIONS (ML=9/2)

BEYOND A MILLION - Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier group than last race out at Parx Racing. FAST INTENTIONS - Was in a $7,500 Claiming race at Parx Racing last out. That clash had a class number of 76 and she is moving down in this race. A certain solid contender. Stretching a thoroughbred out to a route after two sprints is a classic conditioning maneuver. I really like that most recent effort on May 23rd at Parx Racing where she finished third. The 67 last race speed rating looks strong on paper. Ranked number 1 in earnings per start. Another indicator that this horse has class. Mare made up a ton of ground in a 7 furlongs race. May go better on the stretchout.

                Vulnerable Contenders: #3 R TENDERONI (ML=9/5), #9 TRIBORD (ML=7/2), #6 ASSUME CONTROL (ML=5/1),

R TENDERONI - This chalk horse hasn't been to the track in awhile. No workouts since last race. TRIBORD - Hasn't been close at all lately. The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class rating of today's race. Mark this thoroughbred as a possibly overvalued contestant. ASSUME CONTROL - This horse will probably need at least one more race after the lackluster showing following the extended time off. Hasn't been close at all lately.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #1 BEYOND A MILLION to win if we can get at least 9/5 odds

Presque Isle Downs - Race #8 - Post: 6:09pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,000 Class Rating: 72

                  Rating:

                  #3 KENJI'S EMPIRE (ML=5/2)
                  #5 LITTLE BIG (ML=9/2)

KENJI'S EMPIRE - Note that although this gelding finished second in his last race, he was well in front of the third place horse. This is a classic positive angle. This horse coming off a good performance in the last month or so is a contender in my book. Carrying 7 pounds less this race. Trainer has him in a good spot. A repeat of that recent race on May 31st where he recorded a rating of 68 looks high enough to triumph in this clash. LITTLE BIG - Rice drops him down to this level. You don't need too much more handicapping data to figure that this thoroughbred should run well at this level. This horse could be tough in today's contest, especially since Martinez rode last time around the track and now should be plenty familiar with this one. This gelding is in good form, having run a nice race on May 29th, finishing third.

                  Vulnerable Contenders: #6 MCGOLDEN (ML=3/1), #4 GOVERNOR ATWOOD (ML=6/1), #1 SPIRITED DEBATE (ML=8/1),

MCGOLDEN - 3/1 is not enough of a reward to take on most any thoroughbred that has run poorly in back to back outings. GOVERNOR ATWOOD - You figure that this animal is going to win today just because he's always close. Just doesn't finish on top often. The third place finish in the last affair was not the best. SPIRITED DEBATE - Tough to bet on any animal like this that didn't hit the board after the long breather and comes right back.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - KENJI'S EMPIRE - This is an automatic bet for me. This gelding is the top TM Power-rated thoroughbred and his rating towers over the rest.
