Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with a 12-race card featuring Borgata Pacing Series action. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 9, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 9

3-Pace N Pride N (9/5)-Almost wired the field in last and lost by a nose. This will be the 3rd start off the bench and does step up. Did the heavy lifting in a 152.4 mile, should fit here, and could look to work the same plan.
4-Rose Run X-Con (9/2)-Hasn't started inside on a fast track since 2-15 and should like the company. Has hit the board in 12 of 18 at YR and posted 4 wins. Looking for a big try at a square price.

Race 10

4-Jahan Hanover (9/5)-Finished 2nd on 3-28 after leaving and then taking a pocket ride behind a well-meant winner. Pulled down the lane but Kingsville was too tough and made it 4 straight. Kingsville isn't standing in the way of a picture this time.
5-Kootenay Santanna (3-1)-Not sure how this 5-year-old will take to the surface. Burke trains, will use in the 1st start at YR and appears to have good speed. Gingras may try to get the point and wire this field.
7-Vel Mr Nice Guy (15-1)-Ships in from East Rutherford and the last 5 of 7 races have been on an off track. This will be the 1st time here since Cory Stratton took over the training duties and this is the 5th start for his barn. Willing to use at the morning line price and has some back class. If the pace gets hot this 5-year-old should be rolling late.

Race 11

1-Arden Messi N (5-1)-Was in tall cotton in an Open Handicap Pace last week and could have finished better. Was behind the leader who came to a stop, that didn't help, regardless fits better with this field.
2-Delightful Dude N (3-1)-Was used more than once in a nice win and now faces better. Has hit the board in 9 of 13 at Yonkers with 3 victories. Should compete for a picture, Kakaley gets the call, and he knows well.
3-Boiling Oar (7/2)-Steps up after going gate to wire in last. Has good gate speed and Stratton should have forwardly placed and be in striking range at the top of the lane.

Race 12

3-Im Sir Blake A (7/2)-Drops out of the Borgata Series and lands in a better spot to cash the top check. If the one below keeps improving that may be a tall task. But this veteran knows how to win and if Holland provides a sharp steer he could surprise if the chalk doesn't have his fastball.
4-Splash Brother (8/5)-Winner of 3 straight keeps moving up the class ladder and has looked better in each race. Won the last 3 starts by over 13 lengths total. Bartlett should take control early and may not look back. Could be a clean trip away from another picture.

Mahoning Valley - Race #2
Picks Notes
#2 Anchorwoman She probably gets bet a bit in here, but she's moving in with Ohio-bred friends again while making her second start off the layoff. Forward player in a spot without much proven speed.
#6 Twilight Beauty Think she can be in the mix early in this second career start, as she'll race with Lasix while meeting statebred friends in this spot. Price for a share?
#1 Dominique's Night Not too enamored with the debuters on paper in here, so this filly makes some sense in this modest spot. Something like her two-back start might do.
Race Summary Anchorwoman probably hits hard in a soft race, as she looks quicker early than most of these and owns a few running lines that already look competitive with these.

Mahoning Valley - Race #3
Picks Notes
#4 Warhorse West He's not all that reliable late, but I think he found the group he can handle as he projects for a good trip near the top again. Think his baseline effort makes him tough if he can bring it again.
#6 Twelve Minus One Firster goes for a team that has done decent work with their debuters, and but I would want a fair price in a spot that includes a couple capable-looking players with experience.
#5 Giacometti The barn does good work with their new runners, and this guy rises off the Turfway claim. He's cutting back to the sharpest trip of his career, so he might have his work cut out for him early to keep up.
Race Summary Warhorse West has been landing shares with similar, but I'm not finding anyone in here I'm super afraid of, so he may have found the field he can handle to graduate.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7
Picks Notes
#1A Flowzano Think she has a sneaky chance in here off a good try while stepping up off the claim last out, and I wonder if she just gets dragged along by the pace early on and sticks around to threaten late.
#2 Somuchsugar She's a pretty reliable finisher and looks like the one to beat, but I wonder if one of these can get a little jump on her and hold form.
#4 Mon Paradis She has some proving to do on class, but she's stepping up in good form and may be able to get past some of these in the lane at a nice number.
Race Summary Flowzano is worth a little price look for me in this one, as she might be quick enough to find a decent spot early on and gets Lasix for this one -- maybe she surprises.

This filly should be in fine form, this far into her form cycle. This filly is in excellent physical condition right now. Finished second in the last race and comes back rapidly. EASTER VISION - Cunningham was aboard this filly in the last race and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. This is a fairly classic handicapping angle. Play a pony that finished in the place spot in a maiden race last time out but finished well ahead of the third horse. Rarick brings her right back. I advise you stick with this live filly. CAT TALE BREEZE - Have to make this filly a contender; she comes off a good effort on Mar 27th. This speedy sort is cutting back in distance today. Should increase her chances to win. I think this filly is ready to run a good one. She's had enough races since the layoff and should be fit.

I'll take my chances with the Red Sox +140 on the money line as they open up a 3-game series on the road against division rival Tampa Bay. The Rays own the best record in baseball at 9-0, which I believe has them a bit overvalued right now. Not to take anything away from their 9-0 start, but it has come against the Tigers, Nationals and A's. Boston is off a 3-game sweep at Detroit and will have one of their top starters going in Nick Pivetta, who gave up just 1 ER on 3 hits in 5 innings in his first start. Lefty Jalen Beeks will make his first start of 2023 for TB. Red Sox are 26-13 over the last 2 seasons vs left-handed starters. Give me Boston +140!
