Picks Notes
#1 Miss Brightside She ran well when rising off the claim last out, and she's protected while trying the locals for the first time in this spot. Think the form fits here, and Turfway maiden claiming to Mahoning special weight risers are 23% going long here the last few years. Think she can hit hard with this group.
#2 Donnarumma Wouldn't be surprised to see her land this in her 11th career start, as she has been knocking on the door with similar in her recent local starts, and she should get a good run of things while spying the speed. Capable.
#10 Midnightmakessense Wouldn't argue with anyone landing here after this filly proved she could get around two turns when last seen in May, and she already classed up well with the local company at this level from her career debut here. Her paper form makes her a handful, and she's even tougher if she's back with any improvement.
Race Summary Miss Brightside has shown a little bit of versatility and seems like a good fit at this level locally. Hoping she'll offer a decent mid-range price to give her a shot with these.

Mahoning Valley - Race #3
Picks Notes
#1 C C's Clear Creek He has a bit of appeal in this second start off the bench with enough tactical pace to give him the jump on some of the other threats. Willing to give him a shot to improve here despite having 15 starts under his belt -- some of those running lines fit.
#4 Connect Me He's another who has had some chances as he heads into this 11th career start, but his recent form has been decent, and he might find the local company to his liking.
#6 Wiseacre He ran on nicely when facing $7,500 company at Turfway, and he'll rise here off the claim for the new team. Think he still has some upside with just two starts to his name.
Race Summary C C's Clear Creek and Connect Me have combined to lose 25 races already, but they both make a good bit of sense in this spot. 'Creek is right there with these if he can get back to any of those fall '22 races.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7
Picks Notes
#7 Maureenlovesfrank I'm a little worried about her getting caught up with a couple other forward players in the early going here, but she might be the most likely of the pace players to be able to rate a bit, and she draws well to let everything unfold just to her inside.
#3 Sally Strong She's probably the one to beat in here while getting out of state-bred stakes company, but she's going to need to fire a good one off the bench to handle the best in here.
#8 Lieutenant Kitty Think she has a little price appeal in the gimmicks as she goes for the new team, but she'll need one of her better efforts if she's going to be any kind of real threat here. Worth including on deeper plays.
Race Summary #2 Windy Lu Who is another who makes sense on paper, but I worry she might take the worst of the pace. Maureenlovesfrank is fast enough to be right up on the splits at this kind of trip, but she might be able to relax just enough to wait to make a first-jump run.

Based on class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this thoroughbred on my list of strong contenders. LIP'S OF WINE - This one could be a possible overlay in this event at M/L odds of 8/1. Finished fifth in last race at Turf Paradise but was close at the wire. This filly garnered a strong speed fig of 66 in her last race. That speed rating should be strong enough to win this time around.

MACLEAN'S BELLA - Awfully tough to bet on this entrant when she hasn't been showing any fighting spirit of late. No accomplishments for this racer in a sprint race over the last couple months tells me that this filly is in a formidable situation CRAZY ABOUT YOU - Usually I need a sprinter to have some success lately in sprint contests in order to support her. SHE'S A BOSSY GIRL - The speed figure in the last race doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's event. Mark this thoroughbred as a likely underpriced contender.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - MARGOT'S GIRL - I love betting on horses that have a big advantage over the rest of the field when it comes to the Power Rating. This one fits the bill.

The race may set up nicely for this magnificent animal's late kick and she's probably the best closer in the field. Ranked numero uno in earnings per race. Another indication that this horse is the class of the race. CURIOSITY KILLS - This mare is in good condition. Ended up second on Mar 13th. The most recent speed rating of 59 is the best last race rating in the group.
