        PURCHASE

Golden Hour Wagers - Race #3 - Post: 5:42pm - Maiden Special - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $67,000 Class Rating: 95

        Rating:

        #4 CARSON JEN (ML=6/1)
#3 TEA TREE BAY (GB) (ML=4/1)

CARSON JEN - The most dangerous animal in racing is the lone speed horse. If they let her get away early they probably won't catch her. This rider/conditioner duo has been producing a very lucrative ROI, right at +22. Expect better today as this filly gets Lasix for the second time. TEA TREE BAY (GB) - Dettori comes to ride after getting to know the filly in the last race. I expect a lot from this mount. Her Equibase speed figures under similar conditions are tops in this field. Horses out of the barn of Mulhall have been solid on the grass. Should do well today. Based on her last TrackMaster turf fig alone, I'm going to play this thoroughbred. I always like to see a horse getting Lasix for the 1st time. Mulhall adds it on this one today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 WINDOW SHOPPING (ML=7/2), #6 MAKE IT SNOW (ML=4/1), #7 GALIMINE (FR) (ML=6/1),

WINDOW SHOPPING - Can't play this probable favorite off the extended layoff. Finished sixth in her most recent race with a somewhat easily forgotten speed rating. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this bunch. MAKE IT SNOW - This rallier looks to have little chance without a ding-dong battle on the front end. GALIMINE (FR) - The very long layoff since Jul 26th is somewhat troubling. Finished second in her most recent race with a pedestrian speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to score after that in this bunch.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Bet on #4 CARSON JEN to win if you can get at least 3/1 odds

Race 4 - Maiden Special Weight - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $80000 Class Rating: 81

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES THREE YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 120 LBS.

          RECOMMENDED CHOICES
          # 5 SPELTERINI 1/1
          # 2 MAYHEM MISS 8/1
          # 4 RISK FREE 2/1
SPELTERINI is my choice. She has been racing admirably lately while recording sharp speed figures. Will almost certainly compete very well in the early pace contest which bodes well with this field. The speed fig of 81 from her latest affair looks very strong in here. MAYHEM MISS - Look for a decent pace improvement from this racer who enters with second time Lasix today. Ought to compete quite well in the early speed contest which bodes well with this group of horses in this race. RISK FREE - Is a solid contender - given the 78 speed rating from her most recent race. She has been running quite well and the Equibase Speed Figures are among the top in this field.

            Sam Houston - Race #1 - Post: 1:00pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $11,000 Class Rating: 66

            Rating:

            #2 SHE'S FIRE AND ICE (ML=3/1)
            #4 PAINTBRUSH (ML=9/2)
            #6 NORA'S LEGACY (ML=15/1)

SHE'S FIRE AND ICE - Sneaky speed on this one. She'll probably be stalking ponies on the back side, then bury them down the stretch. The February 12th affair at Sam Houston was at a class level of (87). Dropping down in class a significant amount, so she should be in a good place. That 66 fig this mare garnered in her last clash tells me she's a main player today. PAINTBRUSH - Fits well considering the fact that the last time she tried this trip she got a speed fig good enough to win today. A campaigner coming back this soon after a solid effort is a good signal. This filly looks like a natural router, based on efforts in last 2 sprint races. NORA'S LEGACY - Fits well considering the fact that the last time she tried this distance she got a speed rating good enough to win today. Trainer Cravens moves this one down the class scale to face a lower level today. Look for a nice performance in here.

            Vulnerable Contenders: #3 HIGH VALUE TARGET (ML=2/1), #1 SHESMYBROKER (ML=7/2), #7 BOWS N LACE (ML=6/1),

HIGH VALUE TARGET - Finished second in her most recent race with a common fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this bunch. SHESMYBROKER - This mare is always around, but just doesn't finish first. Difficult to play her on the front end. BOWS N LACE - Hard to bet on at 6/1 odds after the last two outings. Will be tough for this entrant to beat this field off of that last speed fig. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the likely underlays list.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - PAINTBRUSH - Caldwell is making good money with this horse. Uppermost in earnings per start.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #2 SHE'S FIRE AND ICE on the win end if we get at least 2/1 odds
            EXACTA WAGERS: 2 with [4,6]

            TRIFECTA WAGERS:

Race 3 - Maiden Claiming - 6.0f on the Dirt. Purse: $15000 Class Rating: 53

FOR MAIDENS, FILLIES THREE YEARS OLD. WEIGHT, 120 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $16,000.

              RECOMMENDED CHOICES
              # 1 SHUT IT CALI 7/5
              # 5 JAZHARA 12/1
              # 8 RED DELICIOUS 20/1
I've got to go with SHUT IT CALI. With a formidable 71 average Equibase speed fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's affair. This filly could improve with second time Lasix. Is tough not to consider based on speed figures which have been very good - 71 avg - of late. JAZHARA - Looks solid against this group of horses in this race and will most likely be one of the front-runners. Carrasco makes a blinkers change (going on today), looking for better results.

Busan Friday: Race-By-Race Preview (March 17)

It’s Classic trials weekend with with Sunday seeing the Sports Seoul Trophy in the capital while Busan plays host to the Gyeongnam Shinmun Trophy. Before that though, the weekend’s action gets underway at Busan on Friday with an 8-race program from 12:00 to 18:00. Here are the previews:

                Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 40 Million

Three-year-old maiden fillies in the opener with six of the twelve racing for the first time. (7) B.K. GALLOP shapes as the probable favourite having steadily improved across three starts so far with a 3rd and a 2nd from her latest two. Those weren’t quick races, but she has shown on pace each time and with an apprentice jockey aboard, she carries the lightest weight. She should be on pace again and can go all the way. A couple of the first timers look useful. (8) HAERANG ISEUL ran 3rd in her trial having settled handy and she stopped the clock in a fair time. If she brings that form to the races, she can go well first-up. (9) HANEUL HAETSAL comes out of the same February 18th trial. She too showed prominently and crossed the line 3rd, a length and three-quarters in arrears of Haerang Iseul. She too can go well. Returning to experience, (4) ARION QUEEN improved when 4th at start number two and can continue to make progress here. (10) GEMIJIN another seemingly on the right trajectory.
Selections (7) B.K. Gallop (8) Haerang Iseul (9) Haneul Haetsal (4) Arion Queen
                Next Best 10, 6
                Fast Start 4, 7, 8, 9

                Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 40 Million

Three-year-old maidens here. After a quick trial, (7) LEMON DOKKI was sent off as favourite on debut over 1300M on February 19th. He was slowest away and settled at the back, before running on strongly for 2nd place, getting to within a length of the winner. He should have derived benefit from that run and with some natural improvement looks to be the one to beat here. (3) MORNING FLOW also comes out of that February 19th race over the same distance. He led for much of that race before being overhaled in the closing stages, finishing 3rd, just a neck behind Lemon Dokki. That was his third start and his second 3rd place finish and from a good draw, he can be on pace and in this a long way once more. (8) SPECIALIST has shown progress across his three starts to date, culminating in a good 2nd place at this distance on February 24th when he overcame the widest gate and only went down by half a length. He can het an easier run here and should be close. (11) RAON STRONG and (9) POWER PLANE others who have shown ability.
Selections (7) Lemon Dokki (3) Morning Flow (8) Specialist (11) Raon Strong
                Next Best 9, 10
                Fast Start 3, 8, 10, 11

                Busan Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 25 Million

                Advertisements
                Report this ad

Maidens. (10) K GOLD BAR comes in having beaten three of today’s rivals with an on pace run over a mile on February 26th. That wasn’t his first good result and while he draws a touch wide here, he should be able to work forward to be on or close to the speed and may well prove too good. The main danger looks to be (6) WISE BOY. He very nearly led from gate to wire over this distance on January 6th, ultimately being overhauled late on. That marked a change in tactics as previously he had been settled back, so a repeat looks likely here and he can be close again coming back off a ten-week layoff. (7) WONDERFUL IMPACT could be an improver at a probably each-way price. She has a 5th and a 7th from her two starts so far but she was on pace over a mile last time out and with the benefit of an apprentice claim, is down significantly in the weights. (2) STAR DRAGON and (1) SAVAGE GIRL among others who can enter the calculations.
Selections (10) K Gold Bar (6) Wise Boy (7) Wonderful Impact (2) Star Dragon
                Next Best 1, 3
                Fast Start 4, 5, 6, 10

                Busan Race 4: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 40 Million

                (12) MULTI HIT led every step of the way to record his maiden win over 1200M on February 12th, crossing the line five-lengths in front of his nearest rival with a further six-lengths back to the 3rd placegetter. He is up in class here and the draw doesn’t do him any favours, but the manner of that win suggests there is more to come and he won’t need to improve much to win again. (11) THEIA also comes up in class following a maiden win at her latest outing in ana ll-filly race over this distance on February 26th. The time wasn’t quick but she scored by a full four-lengths and there is no reason why she can’t measure up. She beat B.K. Gallop who is the probable favourite in race 1 on today’s card so that may provide a guide as to how strong that race actually was. (9) CHEONGMA POWER returned from nine months out to run a solid class and distance 3rd on February 3rd. She should strip fitter for that run and can be firmly in the frame here. (8) BLUE SKY and the up in class (2) SAEKDAL FIGHTER, the latter ideally drawn and weighted, are others to keep safe.
Selections (12) Multi Hit (11) Theia (9) Cheongma Power (8) Blue Sky

                Busan Race 5: Class 5 (1800M) Special Weight B / KRW 40 Million

A small field tackles the two turns here and (4) WONDERFUL CHANCE will be a warm favourite. He is up in both class and in distance having scored over a mile on February 26th when settling handy before striking the front turning for home and running on strongly. The set weight scale here does him no favours but he appears to have plenty more scope for further development and the additional furlong can suit. (6) WONDERFUL FILE enters off a useful 4th place over a mile last time out on February 24th, albeit well back behind a good winner. She draws much better than she did on her only previous try at this distance when 5th behind a couple of today’s rivals, and she can be in the mix here. (9) DALLILAEYO remains winless but has only missed out on the top-five on one occasion. He comes up in class and in distance following back-to-back runner-up finishes over 1300M, but he has previously run well at a mile and the extended trop can suit. (2) ROCK AND ROLL and (3) CENTUM THOR are others in the hunt.

All but a handful go to post with a chance in this competitive handicap. Without too much conviction, we’ll go with (11) WITH SUN, who is rapidly up in class having won two of his first three starts, most recently at class 5 level over 1400M on January 29th when settling midfield and running on. His maiden win came when settling right back. The mile should be to his liking, he carries a light weight and the wide draw shouldn’t be an issue. (4) HWANGU FIGHTER is also rapidly up in class having won two on the bounce, most recently a fast race over 1400M on February 10th. He comes down in the weights, draws well and just like With Sun, the mile can suit. (1) TAPIT WONDERFUL came from off the pace to run 2nd at big odds at class and distance on February 12th. He comes down in the weights with an apprentice claim and should be kept safe here. (12) DOCTOR TIFFANY and (3) RUNNING POWER among plenty more with good chances.
Selections (11) With Sun (4) Hwangu Fighter (1) Tapit Wonderful (12) Doctor Tiffany

                Busan Race 7: Class 3 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Two standouts here and they look very evenly matched. Die to the draw and the weight, we’ll tentatively side with (4) CHOICE RUN. A winner of four from seven, he is rapidly up in class after back-to-back wins at this distance in his latest two, leading all the way on both occasions and stopping the clock in fast times. From a great gate he should be leading again and once in front, he may be hard to pass. (9) GEUMA PASSIONATE has won four from five and enters having beaten plenty of these on his way to victory at this class and distance on February 17th when stalking the leader early before taking command in the straight. He does come up 3.5kg as a result, but he has every chance of winning again. It would be a surprise if those two don’t fill out the quinella, but (6) SANGSEUNG BOY has won at this class and while his latest two have seen him beaten by a couple of today’s rivals, he can return to form here. (2) SPICE ECTON and (7) HUIMANG PUNCH are other placing chances.
Selections (4) Choice Run (9) Geuma Passionate (6) Sangseung Boy (2) Spice Ecton

                Busan Race 8: Class 2 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

A very competitive finale. (10) DOCTOR CAESAR was an emphatic seven-length class and distance winner on February 5th when he drew exactly the same gate as he has today but found his way to the front and led all the way. He comes up a full 5.5kg in the weights as a result and he may need a touch of luck at the start, but he can win again. The principal danger is (4) YEONGGWANGUILEGEND. A winner of four from eleven, he comes up in class after a front running win over this distance on February 24th. He is nicely weighted, he gets a great draw, and he should be going very close. (8) AGAIN TOUCH has a poor day at the office when sent off as favourite over 1400M for her first try at this class on February 19th when she led but weakened. She comes back in trip today and should find it a more suitable assignment. (6) ACE KILLER and (2) CATCH THE VICTORY are others very much in the hunt.
Selections (10) Doctor Caesar (4) Yeonggwanguilegend (8) Again Touch (6) Ace Killer

Gulfstream Park: Key Horses for Friday, March 17

Heathguard was bet down, but won nicely a 3/1 Two tough 2nds followed. The train stays in neutral moving into St. Patrick’s Day. Stew, ponies, ball, repeat. Skip
Gulfstream Park Race 3: 5 Furlongs. (Turf) Alw 50000s

#6 Famous Gent (9/2) – As the old saying goes, pace makes the race. Every other horse in this field needs the early lead to win. This gelding circled the field last time switching back to turf and he looks to get a perfect setup here. The Ductor is hoping he’s not recognized at the windows.
Gulfstream Park Race 6: 1 1/16 Mile. (Turf) Mdn 84k

*Gullet Shot of the Day #10 Levity (8/1) – The Ductor is ignoring his last race at a quirky Kentucky Downs racetrack where something went wrong. His race at this distance at Ellis Park last summer was solid. He chased a quick pace uncovered 3-wide and never quit. Now returning to the races as a 4-year-old, he should naturally progress gets Irad in the saddle. Irad rarely rides for trainer Victoria Oliver and wouldn’t be piloting this gelding if he wasn’t ready to fire.

Gulfstream Park Race 8: 1 Mile. (Turf) Alw 50000s

#3 Chasing Rainbows (5/1) – Making his first start on turf after switching barns last time, he took a step forward. He made an early move into a hot pace and understandably tired the final 1/16. That was still a strong 2nd that this colt can build off of. He gets a nice draw here and Gaffalione will have learned something too.

#8 Ski Patrol (3/1) – He’s the most likely winner in the Ductor’s opinion and will likely be the 3rd betting choice. He ran well last time with a wide trip and never quit.

Rocket Picks : Oaklawn Park, Gulfstream Park, and Santa Anita for March 17, 2023
                      By: Aaron Halterman

Let’s get another big Friday of racing kicked off today! For the free pick 4, we will head to Gulfstream Park for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Santa Anita and Oaklawn Park for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out. Let’s GO!

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Gulfstream Park:

                      Gulfstream Park March 17, 2023

                      Race 6: Maiden Special Weight

#3 Oglethorpe runs off of a layoff today, which is a question mark, but last time out he nearly won in a tough maiden special weight on the turf at Saratoga. #8 Exact Estimate also returns today from a layoff, while moving over to the turf after two lackluster efforts over the dirt.

                      Race 7: Starter Optional Claiming
                      freestar

#7 Designed by Kitten moves back to the synthetic surface for this one, which is where she hit the board in two straight races at this level. #4 Trevess also should enjoy heading back over to the synthetic surface today, while also getting some solid class relief in this spot.

                      Race 8: Starter Allowance

#5 Demurely was a solid winner over this track two starts back against lessor company before running third against similar horses last time out. He should be competitive again today. #6 Ski Patrol was a close second last time out when dropping down to this level. He also had improved since moving over to the turf.

                      Race 9: Claiming

#5 Demurely looks to have a class advantage over this group today. She also has been running very well since being claimed by Saffie Joseph, Jr. #2 Sophia’s Storm goes for two in a row today after a solid win at this level in her last start. She runs for a new barn today, though, which is a question mark.

                      THE TICKET

                      $.50 Pick 4 (Races 6-9) 2,3,6,8,10 / 4,6,7,9 / 3,5,6,8 / 5 – $40
