Should be able to work out a good trip right near the top, but the worry is that he doesn't often pass horses, so he's at the mercy of whether anyone else wants to go with him early.

His hit or miss form is a concern, but there are some pretty competitive lines when racing with this kind in recent starts. Chance with something similar to the last one.

Plato should be tough while dropping in for this conditioned spot while trying the local company for the first time, and he has a little bit of versatility in style that should serve him well here.

Finisher is probably overbet based on the connections, but he's a pretty reliable type at this level and should be rolling late. Underlaid player.

Star Sign has been landing underneath shares with this kind for quite some time, and he should be in line for a great trip while stretching back to this 7f distance where he won his only try.

He's probably a bit outrun in the early going here, but that might work in his favor in a spot without any real finishing punch besides the cutback player in the entry.

Word on a Wing could land a pretty brilliant trip with these, as he's quick enough to be in the mix early, but he can also prompt the speed and kick home. I'd take the 5/2 ML price.

Scioto Downs has a 14-race card set to start their week. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 10 and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 10

4-Pc's Alleyway (8/5)-Not loving the 8/5 morning line but hasn't been in this cheap in a long time. This should be wake-up time but is just 1-14 in 2021 and has only 1 win in 20 races at ScD.
6-Master Malin (5-1)-Was claimed for $20k on 4-14 and then faced better than this in the next 2 starts. Hasn't looked the same since the claim but this will be the 3rd start for the new barn and should like the company. Using at a square price in an ugly race.

Race 11

3-Crafty Ace (3-1)-Beaten chalk at this class now makes 1st start for new connections off a claim. Noble steers again and is back in at the same class. Should be in the hunt but has only 1 win in 12 tries at ScD and is just 3 for the last 48 starts.
4-Seen Before Heard (9/2)-Will toss last from the 10-hole and was in good form in the previous 2 starts. T. Smith will need to work a smooth trip and if so figures to be a player especially if there is an honest pace. Best to respect winner in 6 of 17 starts this year.
8-Montano Pablo A (2-1)-Morning line chalk just missed in last which was the 2nd start for the Morgan barn. Should be a big threat with a good steer and would probably go off as an odds-on favorite again with a better post draw.

Race 12

2-Wildfire Flasher (4-1)-Broke stride last week in 1st Scioto start. Has had physical issues and at times breaking problems. But has been staked, so should fit with this crew if minds manners.
3-Good Ole Ethin (3-1)-Miami Valley invader makes 1st ScD start and has the speed to be a player. Sutton could get a close-up seat and work a cozy trip.
7-Gotafoolishdesire (7-1)-Was far off the pace at the half in 1st career start but raced willingly to the wire to cash a check. There isn't a true standout in this field and could take a picture if within striking range at the top of the lane.
9-Perpetual Rock (20-1)-Had an even effort from post 4 in 1st try at ScD. The price should be better with this post draw and Page sticks. Was coming off a sick scratch before the last start and may show improvement tonight.

Race 13

4-Barley Nation (2-1)-Scored a gate to wire win last week in 1st start at ScD this year. Noble should be out and rolling with the same type of trip in mind. Comes right back after racing on 5/11 and won here after missing a start.
7-Astrofficial (7/2)-Makes 1st start off a Virgil Morgan claim and he has raced this mare before. Started in the 2nd tier last week and kept coming although the trip wasn't smooth. If #4 doesn't bring her "A" game this gal has a good chance to get to the winner's circle.

You have to really like that last race fig, 61, which is the best latest race speed fig of this field. BUCKEYE RUCKUS - The last time he tried this distance he got a fig good enough to win this race. Should do well in this event. Weight shift of -6 from April 28th race at Thistledown.

DOCTORIAT - This runner has been disappointing the public as the favorite time and time again. BODYGUARD - Most recent speed rating of 60 may not be for real since it was on a track listed as good. Not likely that the speed figure he garnered on May 5th will hold up in this clash. To me, when a entrant adds front wraps in his last affair, it's never a good sign.

You may want to overlook that last affair at Will Rogers Downs in the slop where he finished out of the money. Should do well in this race on a non-sloppy track. The improved Equibase speed figures over the last 3 races is strong. Padilla drops him in this race fit and ready to go. OBSTRUCTED VIEW - Dropping down in class rating points from his May 12th race at Will Rogers Downs. Based on that data, I will give this one the advantage. Just view his most recent speed figure, 55. That one looks good in this group. This equine is utmost in EPS (earnings per start). He looks sharp in today's contest.

Cleary, Castillo has gotten off to a very disappointing start. He's quietly been pretty respectable in his recent home starts though, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings, one earned run in four innings and 0 runs in seven innings. That's just four combined earned runs his last three at home, a span of 16 1/3 innings. Obviously, Desclafani will be motivated to face his former team. However, the Reds are going to every bit as hungry to go up against a former teammate. I say Desclafani brings out the best in Castillo and the Reds bounce back. Consider Cincinnati.

The San Francisco Giants have a ton of value here at plus money. Anthony DeScalfani has been excellent this season, going 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA over 46.1IP.
The Giants are sitting atop of the NL West and are playing good baseball winning their last 5 of 7 games. Opposing DeScalfani is Luis Castillo and he has been awful this season 1-5 with a 7.71 ERA, didn’t make it out of the 4th inning last time out giving up 8 ER in 3.2 innings.

I will take my chances with the Blue Jays as a -132 home favorite against the Red Sox tonight. I just feel like this line should be closer to -150. Not only are we getting Toronto at home, but they got the advantage on the mound with today's two starters.
Blue Jays will send out Hyun-Jin Ryu, who has a stellar 2.95 ERA and 1.059 WHIP In 7 starts. What's impressive about Ryu is that he's got such a great ERA despite 6 of his first 7 starts being on the road. In his only home outing of 2021, he allowed 0 ER on just 4 hits over 6 2/3 innings against the Yankees.
Boston will send out Eduardo Rodriguez. While he's got an impressive 5-1 record, he's got a mere 4.15 ERA and 1.205 WHIP. He's also been much worse of late, posting a 5.06 ERA and 1.687 WHIP in his last 3 starts. This also figures to be a touch matchup, as Blue Jays are scoring 6.1 runs/game at home and 5.9 runs/game vs left-handed starters this season. Give me Toronto -132!

The Penguins are a dismal 1-10 in their last 11 postseason games. But I believe Pittsburgh comes back strong here at home after losing, 4-3, in overtime in Sunday's series opener. I thought Pittsburgh controlled the tempo for much of the first two periods. Rookie goalie Ilya Sorokin made 39 saves for the Islanders.
The Penguins are quite aware if they lose this game they are down 0-2 in the series with the next two games at the Islanders. Pittsburgh has won 72 percent of its last 54 home games. New York is 3-8 in its last 11 road contests. The Islanders went 2-6 against the Penguins during the regular season. It's an added bonus if Evgeni Malkin can play for the Penguins after missing Sunday's opener.

My free play is on the Min Twins at 7:40 ET. The Chicago White Sox ended an 11-year playoff drought in 2020 and after producing season highs in runs and hits (18) in Monday's 16-4 out of the Twins, own the best record in MLB at 25-15. The 2021 season is NOT going as well for Minnesota, which has won the AL Central in each of the two previous seasons. The Twins opened 5-2 but by the end of April were just 7-15. Last night's loss was Minnesota's 10th in its last 12 games and at 13-26, the Twins not only find themselves in last-place in the AL Central (already 11 1/2-games back of the White Sox) but as the owners of MLB's worst record as well. The starting pitching matchup features Lance Lynn (4-1, 1.30 ERA) for Chicago and Michael Pineda (2-2, 2.79 ERA) of Minnesota. Many will remember Lynn as an integral part of a St Louis rotation when he won 71 games over a five-year stretch from 2012-17 (he missed all of 2016 with an injury). Lynn left St Louis as a free agent and bombed with Minnesota in 2018 (7-8 / 5.10 ERA / 1.67 WHIP) but starred for a poor Texas team in 2019 and 2020. He won 16 games in 2019 and was a workhorse last season for Texas, leading the majors in starts (13) and innings pitched (84). Lynn was sidelined for the latter part of April this season but since May 1 is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA. The most recent of those wins came last Thursday over the Twins (and Pineda) 4-2 (5 IP / one unearned run). Pineda's career has been interrupted by injury on a semi-regular basis but he seemed to find a 'home' with Minnesota in 2019. He was 11-5 with a 4.01 ERA before he received a 60-game suspension for testing positive for hydrochlorothiazide. His suspension ran into 2020, when he made five starts, going 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA (Twins were 5-0). Pineda has pitched well again in 2021 but wins have NOT come easily for Minnesota, regardless of who is starting. Pineda's ERA is 2.79, his WHIP is 1.01 and opponents are batting just .204 against him, yet the Twins are just 3-4 in his starts. Why take Minnesota here? The White Sox are coming off season highs in runs (16) and hits (18) and it's not rare for a team to suffer a minor 'let down' after a performance like that. What's more, the White Sox ripped Minnesota lefty J.A. Happ for SIX runs in just 3.2 innings on their way to scoring 16 runs. The White Sox are now 9-2 when facing left-handed starters in 2021, averaging a WHOPPING 8.6 RPG (note: Chicago was 14-0, while averaging 7.1 RPG vs lefties in 2020). In contrast here in 2021, the White Sox are a modest 16-13 vs righties, averaging 4.2 RPG (4.4 RPG less than against lefty starters). Let's take Pineda in this quick "re-hook." Good luck...Larry

We missed with the Golden Knights and the 'over' in Game 1 of this series on Sunday - a poor misread on my part - but I won't hesitate to go back to the well with Vegas here as it looks to even up the series before the scene shifts to Minnesota for Game 3. The Wild were fortunate to 'steal' the opener of this series. Yes, they played a phenomenal road game, but you're not going to win many games scoring one goal in Las Vegas. The Knights have been a terrific bounce-back team all season, enduring only three losing streaks over the entire regular season with the longest lasting only three games. They check in a perfect 5-0 in their last five games following a loss. They were in a tougher situation on the road in Minnesota earlier this month following a loss to the Wild two nights earlier (and playing their fourth game in six nights) and answered with a 3-2 road victory. While Minnesota has had plenty of success here in Las Vegas in recent years, the Knights have been a terrific home team this season, going 21-8 and outscoring opponents by 1.2 goals on average. Sunday's win moved the Wild to just one game over .500 on the road where they've still been outscored by an average margin of 0.3 goals this season. Finally, note that the Knights have outscored opponents 1.4 goals on average when playing at home off a loss against a division opponent over the last two seasons, allowing just 1.9 goals per game in that spot. Take Vegas (8*).
