  Analysis: My math model actually favors Oklahoma in this game and the Sooners are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last ten games as underdogs. In contrast, Florida is just 1-3-1 ATS in its last five games and 0-3-1 ATS in its previous four games as a favorite.
  Bulletin Board Material
  If there was ever a question about the Sooners' motivation to be playing in this game, Florida linebacker James Houston IV eliminated those concerns on Tuesday when answering a question about playing in Big 12 territory (At&T Stadium). "Oklahoma is a good matchup, but they're not on our level," Houston said. "They're not the SEC. They're not the Florida Gators. So we should put on a good show."
  You have to love college kids, especially arrogant ones like Houston.
  Oklahoma's Improved Defense
  Oklahoma's defense improved dramatically this season under second-year coordinator Alex Grinch. In fact, Oklahoma's stop unit finished the 2020 regular season with the following achievements:
  Seventh in success rate allowed, second in passing-down success rate allowed
  Seventh in overall havoc rate, third in stuff rate and third in blitz-down sack rate
  14th in completion rate allowed
  Oklahoma's defensive front is nearly unblockable. In just five games since returning from suspension, defensive end Ronnie Perkins compiled 5.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. Perkins generated pressure on 16% of his pass-rush attempts (Ohio State's Chase Young was at 18% last season. Fellow defensive end Isaiah Thomas leads the team in both categories with eight sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.
  Rush end Nik Bonitto and Thomas have combined for 14.5 sacks, 60 pressures, two forced fumbles, and 29 forced incompletions and interceptions. Oklahoma's defense has also improved significantly against the run, holding four of its final five opponents to 95 yards or fewer. Let's also note that Florida's prolific offense will be missing star tight end Kyle Pitts, who decided to opt out of the game and declare for the NFL draft. Without Pitts, Florida struggled to establish both consistency and efficiency in the red zone against LSU. Pitts had 43 catches for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in eight games this season.
  Florida's Struggling Defense
  Florida's defense was the main reason for the Gators' two-game losing streak entering the Cotton Bowl. Florida gave up 89 points and 1,023 yards of offense combined in a 37-34 loss to LSU and 52-46 loss to Alabama in the SEC championship game. The Gators rank 61st in the nation in scoring defense (28.6 points per game) and 62nd in total defense (404.7 yards).
  Rumors about defensive coordinator Todd Grantham's job security continue to escalate and the Gators will struggle to slow down Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler, who led the Big 12 Conference in passing yards per game (278.4), completion percentage (68%), and passing touchdowns (25). Florida is allowing 258.3 passing yards per game, ranking No. 100 in the nation.
