Specifically designed for the rolling exotic player, Jeff Siegel’s “Daily Analysis and Wagering Strategies” isolates those horses that should be included in daily doubles, pick-3s, pick-4s, pick-5s, and the pick-6.
        *
It is recommended that Jeff’s selections be used to augment the reader’s own personal handicapping, though excellent results can be achieved by applying the rolling exotic strategy specified by Jeff’s analysis. Jeff’s recommended plays are intended for players with a moderate budget; however, readers are encouraged to adjust Jeff’s wagering strategy to fit their preferred investment level.
        *
Handicappers also are encouraged to access Jeff’s Daily Santa Anita Workout Analysis (see below), an exclusive report containing commentary, fractional times, grades, and a link to the video of the actual workout by each race’s key contenders.

        Grade B=Solid Play.
        Grade C=Least preferred, or pass.

        RACE 1: Post 1:00 PT. Grade: B+
        Single: 5-Goalie

Forecast: Goalie didn’t get the best of runs when rallying to finish a distant second in a very fast, highly-rated race over this course and distance last month and with clear sailing today the son of Bodemeister should be able to take care of business. In a race without much pace, the P. D’Amato-trained colt should be able to settle in the second flight and then make his run. At 5/2 on the morning (with the likelihood of going lower), he’s a straight play and rolling exotic single.
        *
        *

        RACE 2: Post 1:30 PT. Grade: C+
        Use: 1-Gate Speed; 3-Fratelli; 4-Afternoon Heat

Forecast: Fratelli demolished a maiden claiming $20,000 field at first asking in November and was promptly claimed by M. Glatt, who returns the Munnings gelding off a three and one-half month vacation protected in this starter’s allowance abbreviated sprint in a sign of confidence. Based on speed figures he’ll be dangerous on the raise but no slam dunk, so we’ll toss in a couple of others in our rolling exotic play. Afternoon Heat, in the money in all eight career starts and with numbers that put him right there, appears the one to fear most. The S. Knapp-trained colt may be the most dangerous of the closers and with some help up front should be heard from in the final stages. Gate Speed will bust out and go from the rail and off his best effort must be included as well. He’s plenty quick – maybe quick enough to engage Fratelli early – and will help ensure a fast enough pace that might set things up nicely for the closing types.
        *
        *

        RACE 3: Post 2:00 PT. Grade: X
        Single: 7-Papa Turf

Forecast: Papa Turf has much in his favor in this extended sprint for older $10,000 claimers. A first-off-the-claim play for P. Miller (28% with a substantial flat-bet profit with this angle), the veteran gelding lands the cozy outside post and can dictate the race either on the lead or from a stalking position. All seven of his wins have been accomplished over the Santa Anita main track, so at 9/5 on the morning line and liable to go lower, he’s a logical short price rolling exotic single in a race that we’ll otherwise pass.
        *
        *

        RACE 4: Post 3:01 PT. Grade: B-
        Use: 2-Colonial Creed; 3-Bodhitcitta; 4-Dogtap

Forecast: This nine furlong second-level allowance turf affair for fillies and mares has several possibilities, so we’ll spread three deep and hope to get a decent price home. Bodhicitta was visually quite impressive beating a soft group over this course last month, has trained especially well since, and may be capable of successfully handling the raise in class. The English-bred filly likes to settle and blast home and with F. Prat riding her back the R. Baltas-trained import should have every chance to post a repeat score. Colonial Creek, away since last May but with a series of sharp workouts from a barn that excels with come-backers, won over this turf course two runs back and looks very live off the bench with J. Rosario taking the call. She does her best work on the front end and could be tough to catch if not pressured early. Dogtag makes her first start since finishing unplaced in the Del Mar Oaks last summer. She has numbers that make her a strong contender at this level, has run very well fresh in the past, and has looked especially sharp in the morning, so the daughter of War Front is a “must use” in rolling exotic play.
        *
        *

        RACE 5: Post 3:32 PT. Grade: C+
        Use: 2-Manresa; 6-Suezaaana

Forecast: Manresa may be as good as any in this bottom rung maiden claiming router for fillies and mares. With only three prior starts, she has room for improvement and projects to enjoy a soft pace stalking trip from her comfortable inside draw. She missed at 6/5 in a similar affair here in late January but won’t need to improve much to handle this task. Suezaaana is stretching out for the first time and seems certain to employ gate to wire tactics. She’s bred to run a mile and will take them as far as she can. These are the two we’ll be using in our rolling exotics but not with a great amount of confidence, so if you feel the need to spread deeper, go right ahead.
        *
        *

        RACE 6: Post 4:03 PT. Grade: C
        Use: 1-Ekklesia; 4-Frasard; 7-Media Blitz; 8-Cosmo

Forecast: This is a difficult affair with several contenders, so we’ll go four deep in our rolling exotics but otherwise sit it out. Media Blitz is steadily improving with experience and with another forward move in this, his fourth career start, the S. Callaghan-trained colt could be capable of earning his diploma in this nine furlong turf affair for older maidens. The son of Medaglia d’Oro has the kind of tactical speed that should place him in a comfortable stalking or pressing position in a race that projects to a have a modest early pace. Ekklesia, a close third in the same race Media Blitz exits, is a guaranteed a ground-saving trip from his rail post should be in the fray throughout and have every chance from the quarter pole home. Frasard needs to be held up early and allowed to make one run, and likely will get that type of ride with the switch to D. Van Dyke. We’ll also include Cosmo, working well and adding blinkers for Drysdale. He could easily be better than shown.
        *
        *

        RACE 7: Post 1:58 PT. Grade: X
        Single: 1-Donna Veloce

Forecast: Dona Veloce, narrowly beaten in a pair of Grade-1 races to complete her juvenile campaign, returns in this Grade-3 affair off a three month layoff and beats this field if she’s anywhere near ready. The work tab seems light, but we doubt her connections would be running her unless she was reasonably fit, and because she won her debut by more than nine lengths we know she can fire a winning shot fresh. At 4/5 on the morning line the daughter of Uncle Mo clearly won’t be offering any real wagering value, so the best strategy use her as a rolling exotic single or simply pass the race.
        *
        *

        RACE 8: Post 2:28 PT. Grade: B
        Use: 5-The Street Fighter; 7-Succeedandsurpass; 11-Odysseus

Forecast: The finale is a better-than-par first-level allowance grass miler. Succeedandsurpass is the logical top pick in his first outing since finishing a respectable fifth in the Hollywood Derby-G1 at Del Mar in late November. Prior to that race the Irish-bred colt was a strong runner-up over the Santa Anita turf course in the Twilight Derby-G2, and nothing much more will be needed to handle this task. With the switch to F. Prat and a series of good works to have him fit and ready, the R. Baltas-trained colt clearly is the one to beat. The Street Fighter is listed at 8-1 on the morning line and may be worth including in your rolling exotics at that price. A previous winner over the local lawn, the B. Headley-trained horse has been freshened since September, has trained well enough to be fit off the bench, and should be running on strongly late. We’ll also toss in on a ticket or twoOdysseus, poorly drawn outside but an impressive debut sprint winner in mid-January and with a pedigree to improve as the distances increase. A recent bullet blowout should have him ready to produce a forward move.

Al Cimaglia: March 8-Pompano Park Pick 4 Analysis

          March 8, 2020 | By Al Cimaglia
The Sunday night feature at Pompano Park rolls in Race 8, an Open Pace with a $10,000 purse. The 0.50 Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a 12% takeout and will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

          Race 6

2-Bass Player (2-1)-In good form, draws well, starts for a hot barn and was Hennessey's choice. Also, comes off a win so there is a lot to like.
5-Caviart Regan (4-1)-Drops after flying down the lane against better. Looking for Ingraham to provide a more aggressive steer and be in striking range at the top of the stretch.
7-Quatrain Blue Chip (3-1)-Oakes flew off the gate and set a wicked pace, 54.4-122.3 and faded late to miss by a half of length. The #2 and #3 will likely leave so will need a more tactical trip in 2nd start off the bench.

          Race 7

2-Oberlin (4-1)-Moves up after an impressive win versus $12,500 claimers. Rallied from 8th at the 1/2 to win at 11-1. Hennessey's choice over #4 & #6 is a slow starter so will need good steer but this isn't a loaded field and best to respect.
3-Hot Art (3-1)-11-year-old can be tough if dialed on high and figures to be a major player. Hard to look away and should be bet hard. May try to get the lead early on and control the mile.

          Race 8

3-Outkast Blue Chip (5-1)-Took advantage of a quick pace and a very good steer by David Miller to pop last week. Gets a post draw edge over some tough customers. Winner of 4 out of 9 starts at the Pomp should be put in play.
4-American Hustle (4-1)-Likes to blast out and get on the engine. That looks very possible here and if can cross-over to the rail without burning a lot gas chances for success go up. The chalk may leave too but the 2-hole won't be so bad.
5-Prairie Panther (2-1)-Winner of >$144k in 2019 was rested at the end of the year after winning 3 in a row versus similar company. Wally's choice over the #1 and #2 should be the best if ready but might need a race.

          Race 9

1-King Corona (6-1)-Usually has trouble winning at this level but that describes this field. Looking for Wallis to make the most of the rail, could get the smoothest journey and trip out.
5-Harry Terror (2-1)-Has beaten better but not since the calendar flipped over and should be bet hard. Looks to be a player but not a single in my mind.
6-Deseronto (9-1)-Has fallen short in last 2, both from the rail and now faces better. Usually that isn't a strong reason to play but fits here, makes 3rd start for Dustin Ingraham barn and this is the 1st drive for dad Dave.
7-Mister Marvalous (8-1)-Makes 2nd consecutive start at this class and had no chance in last with a troubled trip and a wide journey. Looks like a price shot with a punchers chance and has won 9 of 23 at the Pomp.

          0.50 Pick 4

            #6
            Brian Nadeau's Daily Picks

            Aqueduct - Race #2
#5 Malibu Mischief Speedster goes for a Miceli barn that can do no wrong, and while she popped and stopped last time, the blinkers go on here, and she looks like a Lone F on paper; come and catch the pick.
#1 Orchid Party Expected underlay didn't fire last time and now drops in class off the Servis/Dubb claim, and while these are potent connections, that last, and the short price here, don't entice; trying to beat.
#8 Friend of Liberty Heavy hitter beat the 1 last time and is another who figures on the drop, but she's also going to be an underlay, and note she hasn't won a race in the past two years; tread very lightly here.
Race Summary The price and the pace seem right on the 5, who looks like the controlling speed, especially with the hood going on, so play her in all the slots, and especially in the early Pk5/Pk4 as well, since she could get overlooked on the poor run last time, even though there's a chance she gets brave on the engine here.
            Aqueduct - Race #7
#6 Javelin Veteran is a bit slow on figures but goes off the Atras claim (27%), catches a group with plenty of speed, and should be a fair price too; call in a real scramble.
#7 Scarf It Down Logical contender was a stalking 3rd at the level last time and a repeat puts him on the line with these, and he's another who will offer value; huge chance.
#9 Moneymeister Class riser was 2nd to a repeat winner for 8k last time, so there's no reason he can't play with these, and yet he may get ignored on the board; exotics appeal.
Race Summary You should get a bit of value on the 6, as he does have to come up in his form to beat these, but there's reason to expect it too, as he's now in with a potent new trainer, so give him a look in all the slots, and in the late Pk5/Pk4 as well, since this is a deep and competitive field, and getting home a $12 winner or so will go a long way in adding plenty of value to both sequences.
            Aqueduct - Race #9
#8 Annula Pace preser woke up in her second start for Duggan last time, and if you toss the sloppy run two-back then her form fits here, and she won't be favored either; look out.
#7 Touch of Nirvana The chalk will be bet hard off her Florida form and the MSW drop, but new trainer Nevin is 0-for-25 with newcomers, which makes this miss tough to trust; second-best.
#3 My Sweet Kat The inside speed may need to be caught, especially with the blinkers going on, but neither of the top pair will let her get too far away, which won't help late; mixed signals.
Race Summary There's plenty to like about the 8, especially since she might get ignored a bit on the board, so give her a look in all the slots, and especially to end the late Pk5/Pk4, as she tipped her hand in her last, and won't have to improve much to get it done here.

              #7
              Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

              Turf Paradise - Race #1
#1 Raging Lady Almost all of this field wants to break for it early, and though she's no different, she might not be quick enough from the fence and may be forced into a pocket trip of sorts.
#6 Surf Kitten Tends to give away some ground late in the lane, but she at least draws outside of all the other pace in here, giving her a slight edge on the other forward players.
#3 Amers Can settle and finish, but her best game has not come at this abbreviated 5f trip, and she may want a bit more ground for her best.
Race Summary Raging Lady might fall into a pretty decent trip from the inside if the sharper pace outside of her clears in the early going. Her ability to spy the speed just a touch should serve her well in a spot with plenty of one-dimensional types.
              Turf Paradise - Race #3
#6 Top of the Rock Hit or miss form is the real issue here, but he has turned in a couple of running lines that would probably be competitive here at a fair price.
#3 The Metal Man Two-back run would probably do the trick here, but the rest of his form isn't all that consistent. Chance he gets overbet in a spot where he can win.
#1 Limited Offer Looks like the one to beat from the rail, but he could be in line for a tricky trip with some forward pace while drawn inside.
Race Summary Top of the Rock isn't out of the question at a fair price, and he was quick enough to find a spot near the top in that last run.
              Turf Paradise - Race #5
#6 Thrasher Deep closer may be along too late today, but he's a reliable finisher in search of the hat trick today, and the hope is that there is just enough pace to get him up.
#3 Nevadan Form is tough to argue with right now after three wins in a row, and though he meets some other pace here, he's probably the best of the forward players.
#7 Paynter's Boy Local debut was a solid one when running third at a price, and he fits right back with this group if he can produce something similar.
Race Summary Thrasher is a deep finisher in a spot where the pace may be fair, and it feels like a race you can survive going two deep with contrasting running styles in the multi-race plays.

                Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

                Gulfstream Park - Race #1
#5 Capable Had traffic problems early and lacked room again in the run for home; most eligible in this field to show improvement in her second start.
#11 Look Me Over Either puts forth an effort or she doesn't; three of her four start were no good but she fired two races back and just missed. Capable on her best day.
#12 Skye Snow Finished a solid second at Fair Grounds in her only turf attempt; can get good position from the outside.
Race Summary Capable's first start is a throw-out due to multiple problems and the royally bred filly keeps Lopez for her 2nd start.
                Gulfstream Park - Race #3
#6 Bold Paynter Was behind a slow early pace last time and can get more help today; won vs. a similar group three races back in ultra-fast time.
#1 Dermot Was claimed by Ritvo when he won two back and was finishing with interest last out; can contend here.
#3 Mantra Has been in some tougher races and seeks his 1st win since last July; the drop in class could put him over the top.
Race Summary Bold Paynter has been in mostly good form since last fall and has a decent late move on occasion; fits well with these.
                Gulfstream Park - Race #10
#3 Fully Loaded Just missed last time and has been in tougher spots most of the time; is a class act and can take them to the wire.
#1 Honolulu Express Closed well for 3rd last out and can benefit from tracking a fast pace.
#2 Captain Ron Loves to be on the front end but also has closed in spots; big player as usual.
Race Summary Fully Loaded has mixed it up with good company and is capable of beating this group.

                      Race 3 - Allowance - 300y on the Dirt. Purse: $24600 Class Rating: 88

                      RECOMMENDED CHOICES
                      # 12 JESS SO TEMPTING 20/1
                      # 11 MS PARTY WAGON 8/1
                      # 8 KJ KISS THIS 12/1
I think JESS SO TEMPTING is a solid selection and could score at a price in here. Garcia has been scorching the last month, winning at a nifty 15 percent rate. The speed figure of 87 from her latest contest looks solid in here. Jockey's recent return on investment figs make this filly a strong wager. MS PARTY WAGON - Has been running strongly lately and will probably be up on the front end early on. Must be given a shot given the class of races run recently. KJ KISS THIS - Has been racing solidly and has among the most respectable speed in the race for today's distance. Is a definite contender - given the 88 Equibase Speed Figure from her most recent race.

                        Race 3 - Trial - 350y on the Dirt. Purse: $10000 Class Rating: 93

                        # 9 AINT WORKING 6/1

                        # 2 CASH FOR WILLIE 6/1
AINT WORKING is my choice. Looks solid for the conditions of this race today, showing solid numbers in short races recently. Could beat this group given the 96 speed figure earned in his last outing. He must be given consideration given the strong speed figures. LIARLIAR HOCKSONFIRE - Has been right there at the finishing post most every time as of late. A nice ROI of +186 with this jock and trainer duo. CASH FOR WILLIE - Has been travelling in the most competitive company of the group recently.

                          Aqueduct - Race #4 - Post: 2:56pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $33,000 Class Rating: 71

                          Rating:

                          #11 DEJA RACONTE (ML=9/2)
                          #8 EIGHTY SEVEN NORTH (ML=10/1)

DEJA RACONTE - I believe that this shorter trip should help this filly. This horse ran out of the money at Aqueduct in the last race on a track listed as good. She should improve in this race without a sloppy track. EIGHTY SEVEN NORTH - Horse has improved at least 2 Equibase speed figure points in last two races. I look for that trend to continue in this event.

                          Vulnerable Contenders: #12 VITANZA (ML=3/1), #5 PENDOLINO (ML=7/2), #7 ROUSEY (ML=6/1),

VITANZA - Finished second in her most recent race with a quite unimpressive fig. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to prove victorious after that in this field. PENDOLINO - Should have at least finished in the money in the last two months in a sprint event to be worth the chance at minimal odds in a sprint. This filly finished outside the top 3 on Dec 28th and wasn't even close last time out either. ROUSEY - Generally I need a sprinter to have some recent success in short distance affairs in order to play her.

STRAIGHT WAGERS: Have to go with #11 DEJA RACONTE on the win end if we get at least 3/2 odds
                          EXACTA WAGERS: Box [8,11]

Tampa Bay Downs - Race #6 - Post: 2:50pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $14,200 Class Rating: 73

                              Rating:

                              #1 WORLDS APART (ML=2/1)
                              #10 BACI (ML=4/1)

WORLDS APART - Comparing how the horses in this field have fared under similar conditions, I see this one has the highest speed rating for the dist/surf. That recent bullet 101.2 work shows that this filly is ready for a top effort today. This filly has a lot of ability on the turf. Could be long gone by the time they turn for home. BACI - Rider hops up aboard after getting to know the horse by riding last time around the track. That's always a great angle. Took a significant drop in class rating last out at Tampa Bay Downs. Returning to a similar level in this field. Should perform well right here. This horse didn't run well on the soft turf in her last start at Tampa Bay Downs. You probably want to ignore that showing.

                              Vulnerable Contenders: #7 TIZ HER WAY (ML=7/2), #5 STONEY'S MONKEY (ML=6/1), #9 EXACTA (ML=6/1),

TIZ HER WAY - This horse doesn't have a champion's temperament. Frequently finishes near the winner. STONEY'S MONKEY - There's speed, speed, and more early speed in this event. Doesn't look too good for this horse. EXACTA - There's speed, zip, and more speed in this race. Doesn't look too good for this equine.
