At least the Pistons make sense right now. A Derrick Rose-Andre Drummond pick-and-roll can at least produce passable offense. Detroit rebounds well. But the Cavaliers? They are in utter chaos. Kevin Love threw a tantrum on Saturday that got him fined, and then he mysteriously sat out Sunday for "rest." The only meaningful veteran on the roster so publicly sharing his unhappiness with the team can't exactly be good for morale. Until the Love situation resolves and the remaining veterans in Cleveland show some degree of respect for John Beilein, Cleveland should be bet against whenever possible.

Betting against the red-hot Thunder right now is a difficult proposition, but Brooklyn's two major problems right now are easily fixable. The Nets can't score when Spencer Dinwiddie sits? The return of Caris LeVert should help fix that. Brooklyn is shooting 28.8 percent from behind the arc in its last 13 games? Even a team with bad shooting talent would regress from that number, and while the Nets aren't elite, the presence of Joe Harris alone should garner some improvement there. The things making the Nets home underdogs in this one just aren't as important as Vegas thinks.

The Buckeyes have struggled in conference play and could do so here, but they should play solid defense in a game they need to win. I believe this has all the makings of a low-scoring, defensive battle. The Terps are allowing just 61 points per game, but Ohio State has been even better, permitting only 58. The Under is 6-3 for the Terps at home.

1-Unit Play. Take #604 Louisville (-13) over Miami (7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
Blowouts in this series have been in short supply. But Louisville beat Miami by 13 in the season opener down in Miami and I think that they can do more here at home, especially coming off a disappointing loss to Florida State. Miami is wildly erratic. And they are coming off a 33-point blowout home loss to Duke so there is no telling where their heads are at. This team has also gotten wrecked by Florida (by 20) and Connecticut (by 25) so when they lose they tend to lose spectacularly. The Cardinals obviously aren't as good as everyone thought. But after back-to-back losses I think that they will be focused to bury the needle in this one.

1-Unit Play. Take #608 Maryland (-2.5) over Ohio State (7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
The Terps are undefeated at home this year and I think they will get a marquee win here. I think the Terps have played better against a better schedule this season. Ohio State may have peaked a bit early this year. They haven't been great off of their home court, losing three of their last four outside of Columbus. And the Terps really look like a different team when they play on their home court.

2-Unit Play. Take #615 Rider (-2.5) over Quinnipiac (7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
I'm going to go to the well with Rider. I think that this is the best team in the Metro this year. This is the most experienced team in the league and to this point in the year they have beaten all the teams that they should have and they have lost to the teams they should've. Yes, Rider has struggled on the road. But Quinnipiac doesn't exactly have a dominating home court advantage. They are a chuck-and-duck team that just bombs a bunch of 3-pointers. If they are hitting, they have a chance for the upset. If they aren't, Rider should win easily. They have won here two of the past three seasons, winning by 15 and 17 points. Last year Cam Young went nuts and the Bobcats won in overtime. He's not here to bail this team out, though, and I think that Rider will find a way to get it done.

2-Unit Play. Take #635 Missouri State (+2.5) over Illinois State (8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
Missouri State has lost three of its last four games. But they have actually been playing pretty well. They are 4-1 ATS in their last five games and nearly knocked off Loyola on the road on Saturday. Illinois has lost three of its last five, but they aren't playing well. They are just 1-4 ATS in their last five games. I know that home court means everything in the Missouri Valley. But I just think that Missouri State is the better team and that they are due for a win.

1-Unit Play. Take #648 Creighton (-1.5) over Villanova (9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)

2-Unit Play. Take #654 Texas Tech (-3) over Baylor (9 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
I don't love this Texas Tech team. They really haven't played much of a schedule and I do think that they are a bit overvalued. But Baylor really hasn't tested itself away from home and this is just their second true road game of the season. The first was against Coastal Carolina so that only barely counts. I don't think that Baylor deserves its lofty ranking and I think they will get knocked off here.

2-Unit Play. Take #657 Utah State (-6.5) over Air Force (11 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)

5-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 144.5 Utah State at Air Force (11 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7)
The Aggies are 11-for-42 from 3-point range in their last two games. I don't see that happening again. Not against an Air Force team that plays absolutely no defense. Utah State is on the ropes a bit after starting league play with back-to-back losses. Not just back-to-back losses, but back-to-back ugly losses, falling by 17 at UNLV and losing by nine at home to San Diego State. The offense has been the problem. But it absolutely should not be tonight against the Falcons. Air Force is No. 320 in the country in field goal defense and No. 320 in 3-point defense. Basically, they don't play any defense and instead try to outscore opponents. Air Force is too small and too weak to keep Utah State from getting whatever it wants going toward the basket. And simply regression should help get their 26 percent 3-point shooting back around their normal 33-34 percent. Air Force gave up 89 points to Idaho State, 78 to Loyola Marymount, 84 to Indiana State, 100 to Nevada and 85 to Drake. They've allowed at least 70 points in nine of their 15 games. I don't see any way that they hold a motivated BYU squad below 75 points in this game. Air Force also puts up a lot of points on its home court. They've averaged 85 points per game in their last five home games and they have gone 'over' in six of seven overall. The Falcons only shot 35 percent from the field in their last game so they should be primed for a better shooting night as well. I have this one at 84-75 for the road team.
