Central Florida point guard B.J. Taylor is easily their best player. The Knights started out the season 3-0 with Taylor but then he got hurt in the middle of what was a close game versus a very good Davidson teanm. UCF was outscored 50-31 in the 2nd half of that game without Taylor and lost by 26 points. Taylor returned to action last game and though they were beaten by a highly ranked Florida State squad, you could instantly see the improvement from the Knights.
Illinois Chicago is off to a 2-7 start this year. This comes on the heels of ending last season 1-19 overall in their last 20 games. Most of these defeats late last year were in Horizon Conference play, a conference that is not as good as the one that UCF plays in. Don’t be fooled by some of the closer losses from the Flames either as they never led once last game at home in their 10 point defeat. The Flames are also an ugly 5-16 versus the spread their last 21 home games.
If Taylor hadn’t got hurt and missed action in those 2.5 games, the Knights would be 5 point favorites here in this one. Take Central Florida here.

A tremendous spot here for the Rams to blow out the Cards. I have the Rams rated a dead average team, and frankly my rating may be low. They struggled early in the year, when their D was adjusting to their schemes and couldn’t get a pass rush. Now, they have a top 10 NFL D, with back 2 back shutouts. This D is playing out of their minds lately, giving them a great pass rush. They played a ridiculous tough schedule, and won several of the games and easily could have won @SD also if not for a late Red Zone turnover. Hill is the MUCH better Qb option for them as well. If the season started today the Rams season win number would be 8. Contrast that with Az. With StantoËn I would make their season win 6.5 if the season started today, with their D depleted with injuries, and it got worse last week. They have a massive HFA, but now they go on the road.

They stole many game this year at home (vs. Phllly, vs. KC, etc) and their road wins are tainted (punt return vs. Gmen, got a win @dal with Weeedn QB, etc). BLOWOUT coming. Short prep week for a Az team who just played @Sea, @atl, and then had a must win vs. a physical KC team.

Philadelphia has found little success of late themselves, winning just one of their last eight. The good news is that seven of those eight were on the road, and they return to a more friendly environment at home where they are 6-4-2 on the season. The Devils have carried a lot of baggage on the road where they are an ugly 24-51 in their last 75, while the Flyers are kings against teams below .400 at a resounding 141-71-18 in their last 236 against them. The Houston Rockets have shown just how good of a team they are as they have won 7 of their 10 games without Dwight Howard in their lineup. The actually led after 3 quarters last night at 19-2 Golden State. The Warriors were too much though and pulled away late for the win. Houstons is an NBA best 15-6 against the spread this season so far as they have somehow managed to stay below the public's radar.

Sacramento is also missing their big man in DeMarco Cousins but the Kings don't look the close to the same team without him in their lineup. They were beaten by the lowly Lakers in their last game, struggled against Utah at game before that one, lost to Orlando by 9 at home, needed overtime to beat the Pacers by 1 point and dropped the 3 games before that Cousins was out and all by 8 points or more. The Kings are a decent team when healthy but there's a major drop off when Cousins is out of the lineup.

No Dwight Howard still for Houston, but I like the Rockets here against the Kings, who cannot close out a game it seems. With Cousins out for the Kings, they miss his point production and both teams off a loss here, but the King’s off a bad loss at the Lakers while a red hot Golden State team who plays good defense beat up the Rockets. Houston has more offensive firepower, they are better on the offensive glass, and Kings home floor is not the advantage it has been in years past either. The Kings relay on their bench and the Houston starters average over 20 ppg more than the Kings starters. Cheap number, looks like a set up, but CLEARLY the better team here is Houston and laying less than 3 here is a gift.

While we completely understand that their competition hasn’t been the greatest, it’s clear to see that Oliver Purnell has this DePaul program headed in the right direction. They come into this game at 6-1 on the season, while the Colonials from George Washington are 5-2 on the young season. Something has to give here as GW holds their opponents to 27.5% from three-point range and only surrender 58 ppg, while the Blue Demons are averaging 83 ppg during this current win streak and they are shooting 41% from three-point line, good for second in the Big East. GW has been terrible against the number this season, going 1-3 ATS, while DePaul is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games vs teams with a winning record. We’re not quite sure DePaul wins this game, but this team is much better than years past and we really expect them to keep this close tonight at the Smith Center. The Sharps say…

Analysis: I'll throw a marble against the team (again) that screwed us on day one with the OT loss to Pacific. Western Illinois, other than to NR teams or an overtime game, has not scored more than 64 points in a game. They've picked up the pace under new coach Billy Wright, but he's trying to do it with Jim Molinari's recruits/players. The result has been a sickly offense that gets too many shots blocked and can't rebound, and a defense that doesn't create turnovers. Not to mention a 65% FT shooting team. This is Idaho's fourth true road game already. They just beat Washington State on the road, then came home to beat UC Davis. They played Boise State tough on the road. Bottom line is that although the Vandals are certainly not top 100 material, Western shouldn't be favored over too many teams this season. Idaho plays fast, and the one thing they CAN do is score. They've managed at least 71 points in every game but one this season, they do get to the line some, and shot almost 70%. They're fairly experience with a SR PG which is important to me on the road. Western is slightly bigger on the perimeter, but inside it's pretty much a toss-up, so there's just too many ways Idaho can win here, IMO. It's entirely possibly this line could get better, so I'll put it out there now for you to ponder.
