Karl Garrett 30 DIMER - OREGON STATE BEAVERS....10 DIMER - NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS 30 DIMER - OREGON STATE BEAVERS

BYU is playing in Vegas for the 5th straight season, and while the proximity of BYU to Las Vegas makes it a no-brainer for the bowl to have BYU participate, the Cougars playing this game against the Pac 10 has not been so kind to BYU.

BYU covered just 1 of their last 4 bowl games against the Pacific 10, and this Oregon State team is likely to drop that number to just 1 cover in 5 tries.

Oregon State brings some serious matchup problems to the table for the Cougars, as the Rodgers brothers will see to it that the Beavers team speed is used to its fullest potential tonight.

The Beavers bring a nice 5-0 straight up bowl record under Mike Riley into Sin City this evening, and they have also covered in 4 of those 5 bowl games.

With Sean Canfield firing away, Quizz Rodgers slicing and dicing, and James Rodgers hauling in passes, I have a strong feeling the Beavers will prevail in this one.

Mark the G-Man down for a play on the Beavers to notch another bowl win and cover.

10 DIMER - NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS

I feel bad for Marshall tonight, as North Carolina just allowed 103 points to Texas in their weekend loss at Cowboys Stadium.

I have a feeling Roy Williams cracked the whip at practice, and you will see a defensive effort put forth tonight from the Heels.

Marshall brings in a 9-1 record to tonight's game, but playing the likes of High Point, Brescia, Binghamton, and Salem International is not the same as going up against ACC heavyweight North Carolina.

Not only going up against the Heels, but going up against them after a loss like they just suffered, and also having to play them in their own gym!

UNC has covered 8 of their last 11 lined home games, and they will roll tonight.

      Blowout City baby!

          30 Dime - BYU

One of the key questions on the list of any football handicapper during Bowl games is "Who wants to be here"? In this game the answer is obvious. Under Mike Riley the Beavers are 5-0 in bowl games but just a few weeks ago the Beavs were playing for a shot at the Rose Bowl, now they are playing in the Las Vegas bowl instead. Has to be a major disappointment. Now BYU comes with their usual huge following to Tinsel Town with no real distractions due to "reasons". They are more experienced and they have the better QB in this game. they are playing close to the end of their regular season so their won't be a lot of rust either. The Mountain West always comes to play, especially against the bigger conferences.

            SPARTAN

            Triple star

Analysis: I stated on the pod cast with Dan Bebe and Mike Hook last friday that I was looking forward to the big game saturday featuring Texas and North Carolina because the Longhorns are literally loaded this year and they did not let me down as they outclassed a very strong Tar Heels team. Now the Michigan State Spartans come calling in Austin to see how they match up with Texas. Frankly I expect similar results to this last weekend and quite possible a lot worse for the visitors. The Horns put up 103 on North Carolina and that was in the Cowboys monster stadium where the shooting was not the same as home with sight lines and such, that might not seem like much but it can affect teams. Now they are home and I just feel they totally outclass this Spartans club. This Texas team Rick Barnes has constructed has prevailed in every game this year to date by double figures and I absolutely do not expect that to change here tonight. They can score, they can all fill the net as was clearly in play against North Carolina as fours players scored 20+ points. I respect Tom Izzo a great deal but he is going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time here tonight. Triple Star Release on Texas -8 guys!

                        Today's Games... 1. 200,000? Brigham Young
                        2. 50,000? Ohio

                        1. Brigham Young- The old PAC-10 over Mountain West argument - sorry guys, but you need to take A LOT more into account when 'capping Bowl games. In this case, the one factor that stands out above all the rest is motivation. Is Oregon State going to bring their "A" game tonight, that is the question you should be asking yourself... And the answer is a definative NO. Coach Riley admitted his team was dealing with disappointment, and I don't care who you are, but when you're busy thinking about the "what if," you're not thinking about the "right now," as in playing a VERY motivated BYU squad.

Speaking of BYU, not only do they enjoy an edge at QB with stud Max Hall, but defensively I believe they are a superior team. I know people will argue about the speed of the PAC-10 vs the slower/stronger Mountain West, but to be honest, we're you really that impressed by the PAC-10 this year? Make no mistake, the Cougars offense can play with anyone, especially a Beaver stop-unit allowing a generous 23.5 ppg on the road this season!

One other key factor to consider when 'capping Bowl games is perception. In other words, ask yourself, what does Vegas want the average bettor (aka the average sucker) to do? And the answer to that question is clear: They want bettors to play the Beavers as a short favorite against a supposedly weaker Mountain West team. Setting the line where its at is a perfect trap for those of you out there who swear the Cougars can't possiby cover the Rodgers brothers. Again, Oregon State backers are in for a major disappointment.

Bottom line, considering several factors, including motivation and perception, the play here rests squarely on the Cougars. BYU has been here before, they are not only happy to be in Las Vegas, but actually relish the idea. The crowd will be very much pro-Cougars, and with Oregon State still thinking about the Rose Bowl, I say the Beavers deliver a lackluster performance here, costing their backers in the process.

Take Brigham Young plus the points over Oregon State as your top-rated play of the day.

                        2. Ohio- We're gonna keep this one short and simple, as the betting public is making the mistake of seriously underestimating this Bobcats squad in this spot. Clearly, the Panthers are the better overall team, with superior size, but laying double digits in this match up is simply too much to ask. Read on...

Although there's no doubt anyone would take the Panthers frontline over the Bobcats, fact is both van Kempen and Washingon are playing extremely well of late. They've helped lead this Ohio team to 3 straight wins and 4 covers in their last 5 games! The one issue is foul trouble, with Ohio bench has a couple extra big bodies to throw in their in case of the worst case scenario (6'8 forwards Keely and Baltic).

The backcourt is an interesting match up, because unlike the frontline, Ohio's guard duo of Cooper and Bassett is extremely talented and just as good as the Panthers. Gibbs and Wannamker may get more public love, but if you haven't seen the Bobcats play this season, you'll see just how comparable these backcourts are tonight. As is the case with college basketball, the game is won and lost because of backcourt play, and in this match up, its closer than it appears.

Finally, Pittsburgh-backers have been getting massacred of late overall (and especially at home). Note, Pitt is just 3-10-1 ATS over their L14 games overall AND an equally bad 2-8-1 ATS in their L11 at home. Look guys, in the end, underestimate this Ohio team at your own loss, as Bassett and Cooper carry this team straight to the bank Tuesday night on the road.

Take Ohio plus the points over Pittsburgh in this college hoops match up.

The Spartans have had Texas' number, picking up wins against the Horns each of the last 3 seasons. While Texas could finally have its revenge tonight, I can't see this one not being extremely close with the level of experience that Michigan State has and with as well as the Spartans defense. Let's just say that the Spartans have owned the Big 12 Conference over the last few seasons, racking up a 6-0 ATS mark while winning by an average score of 77.8 to 70.2. Michigan State has been chomping at the bit for another opportunity to show the country that it is better than it showed when it lost at UNC. Expect the Spartans to do just that tonight.

                            D0C SPORTS NBA

                            3-Unit Play #501 Take Philadelphia/Washington OVER 206 (7 p.m. EST, Tuesday)

These two teams met about a month ago and the total reached 215. Neither team shot close to 50% in that game and actually Philly shot only 40%, well below their season average. What that means is that there were a lot of attempts made in that game and that is how we think this one will play out again and if these teams can get hot since both defenses are pretty bad then this one could go well over the posted number. Both teams scoring has been up (above 100, for an average) in their last five games and Washington has given up an average of 110 PPG in their last five contests. Four straight meetings and six out of the last seven have gone over the posted total.

                            4-Unit Play #505 Take Indiana/Boston UNDER 201 ½ (7:30 p.m. EST, Tuesday)

First, this one could likely be a blowout and that would bode well for an under when the number is above 200 as the team in the lead could slow the game down and also the intentional fouling could be eliminated. Also, these two teams played once and Indiana shot over 50 percent from the floor AND from three-point land. Just don’t see that happening again against the No. 1 defensive team in the league. Indiana hasn’t been playing that well on offense and they have only reached the Century Mark three times in their last 10 games. We think the Celtics will get their points tonight but we just don’t think Indiana will get close to 100.

                            3-Unit Play #513 Take LA Clippers/Houston UNDER 194 (8:30 p.m. EST, Tuesday)

Both teams are trending towards the under as the Clippers have gone under in 11 of 15 while the Rockets have gone under in 9 of their last 12. The Clippers have been playing some strong defense although that is not immediately evident in their recent numbers as they gave up 100+ in two recent games to the Spurs as well as an OT game against Philly (they held them under 100 in regulation). Houston has been pretty good on defense too and we think their recent numbers have been a bit skewed by up-tempo clubs. Think this one could probably wind up in the 180s as we just don’t see a barnburner here .
